Did I mention that I pretty much love the Two Brothers beers I've tried. This is the nicest easy going balanced summer session beer I've come across. Pours a bright golden hue with egg shell white head, forming nice speckled lacing with each sip. Aroma has light biscuit malts and herbal grassy/strong mineral water notes in the finish. A solid liquid bread type of beer, tastes clean and smooth with ample balance a crip hoppiness goes quite nicely with the semi sweet biscuit/cracker notes. A sight lemongrass herba tones in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied solidly carbonated with ample CO2, smooth going down I could have went for a whole six instead of a single. Great tasting brew that deserves be drunk in number during the Dog Days of Summer.

A: Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Amber colored body with half a finger of off-white head that quickly settles to just a coating on the surface. Leaves spotty lacing.
S: The nose consists mainly of malty sweetness, some floral hops.
T: A little sweet, maybe some notes of caramel, some hop bitterness, and bread.
M: Nice carbonation, crisp, finishes a little sticky.
D: Would be easy to session this but the flavor isn't my cup of tea.

A: The beer poured clear yellow in color with a thin white head that quickly disappeared. A light level of carbonation is visible from the rising bubbles.
S: The aroma is balanced between smells of malty sweetness and hop bitterness; there also some notes of grapes in the nose.
T: The initial taste is dominated by biscuity malts and transitions over towards hop bitterness towards the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of dryness, particularly in the finish.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and can be sessionable, particularly on a hot summer day.

12oz bottle drank from a standard pint glass.

A- this one pours out a light golden colored body with a small cap of bright white foam. the head lasts for a little while before receding and leaves behind small spots of lacing.

S- the nose is pretty subdued here. toasted grain with a little bit of caramel malt sweetness a little bit of earthy and floral hops.

T- the taste is just as subdued as the nose. a small amount of caramel and toasted bred like malts up front. at the end theres a little bit of herbal, floral, and earthy hops.

M- light bodied with ample carbonation.

D- meh, this isnt my favorite two brothers beer. something ill still try at least once a year, but not too much more than that.

Poured bright yellow/orange with a thick and creamy head, tons of carbonation bubbles running through the beer.

The smell has a light sweet pale malt aroma.

The flavor is light and clean with a mild bit of lightly sweet malt and a hint of bitterness and light German style hops.

The mouthfeel is light with a very dry finish.

A solid Lager, easy to drink, but with just enough extra flavor compared to many in this category to set itself above them.

12 oz. bottle with freshness date stamped on label. The lager poured a clear, golden color with quickly receding white head.

There is a good blast of caramel malt aromas and noble hops. This smells very fresh.

True to the style, the flavor is sweet with a little hop flavor to balance everything. There is some bready flavor as well.

While light in body, this has a fuller mouthfeel than a pilsner or helles. The carbonation level is appropriate for a lager and keeps each sip refreshing.

I have always enjoyed this style when I can find it. As with this product, most dortmunders are seasonal offerings. This is ideal for the hot, summer months.

Been wanting to sample this for a while now...

A -- Clear, deep gold with a slow-settling, frothy white head.

S -- Light, spicy noble hops with some vague crackery malts back.

T -- Somewhat citric hop character up front, followed closely in balance by that cracker note. Well balanced, but seems a little lacking than the import variety.

M -- Light to medium body with a mildly syrupy to mouthfeel.

D -- Drinkability is solid, but I was hoping for more of that true German maltiness in this beer. It's trying hard, but falling a little short.

Pours very clear, dark gold in color with a massive creamy head that doesn't hang around long.

Aroma is tart floral hop, and biscuit malt. There is also an odd vegetal sourness that is unappealing.

Taste is metallic caramel malt sweetness with a definite bready quality. Earthy hops bring a bit of spicy bitterness to the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium-full. A surprisingly full feel.

I'm not sure about this one. Nice mouthfeel and appearance, but the aroma immediately tuned me off, and the flavor wasn't as unified as it should be. Not something I'll pick up again.

Pours a clear golden honey color with a wispy white head that settles into a solid ring. The aroma is of a sweet bready malt with hints of grassy bitterness. Perhaps a touch grainy. The taste is light and somewhat grainy, there is a touch of honey sweetness and grassy hop bitterness. Has some hay like characteristics. The feel is moderate with active carbonation, the beer starts off sweet but finishes with a light bitter kick. A tad heavier than most lagers but drinks very well. It is nice to see another American brewery make this style as it is a good summertime brew.

Poured into an Imperial Pint Glass.

A: Short head retention with a light, white nose. Golden body with a hint of orange hues.

S: The aroma is present on this lager, a tad bit of malty bitterness. A clean dry aroma.

T: Bright bust of hops with a subtle off taste of malts. A good overall lager with a nice medium bodied taste. A bit short on the carbonation.

M: A short refreshing mouthfeel. The taste does not linger long, but the medium body adds a thicker mouthfeel while it is there.

D: I feel that this over other Lagers is a better overall taste with a great drinkability.

Overall: Great beer that I would come back to or recommend to others when looking for a Lager.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Pours a deep yellow-gold with one finger of sticky white foam.

S - Chewy cereal grain aroma, floral and grassy hops.

T - Cereal, grain-husk flavor, a bit sweet, with mild-moderate hop bitterness and subtle noble hop flavor. Tasty and quenching, though not up to the standard of Dortmunder Gold.

M - Light-medium body, smooth carbonation.

D - Very easy to drink; satisfying.

On tap at the Black Sparrow.

You know, I really like this new Lawnmower trend. Like, yeah, I know that dortmunders and kolsches have been steadily produced ever since I've been a beer person, but it's only recently that brewers have been comfortable admitting to the fact that these beers are supposed to be light and refreshing.

Pours orangeyellow, translucent and sunny. Nice head.

Smells crisp and dry, heavy nodes of peat moss and noble hops.

Tastes weedy--maybe it's just the power of suggestion, maybe it's just the european hops, but I'm getting a strong floral profile here that's almost like dandelions. That drifts towards a drier, earthier middle, and then ends on long, dry hops.

Had this on-tap at Two Brothers Tap House.

A - Golden amber with a frothy head that dissipates reasonably quick and leaves crop circles of lacing on the glass. Looks more like an ale.

S - Citrusy aroma with a bread/yeast undertone.

T - Very good, smooth lager flavor with lingering but not overpowering hops.

M - Good carbonation keeps this crisp and refreshing all the way down.

D - Good session beer, I plan to go to this frequently over the summer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin off-white head that fades very quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of light malts, lager yeast and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts bready with flavors of lager yeast and grain followed by some malt sweetness. The hops presence is mild but brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a decent lighter beer to drink for a while but there are others that I would choose first.

12oz bottle

App: Suspended solids in a lager?! That's all I have to say

Smell: Wonderfully fresh. Sweet apple malt and a hint of hops. A little too ale-like for me.

Taste: A slight sweet start, with medium body. The flavor quickly turns to a crisp, minerally bitterness which is spot on for the style. Ends with caramel apple sweetness.

There's something not quite right about this beer. Too sweet; too fruity. They said it was their only lager, so it makes sense that it's rather ale-like

A- Pours a golden yellow with a white head.

S- Sweet, bready, malts with a cider-like quality.

T- Pretty sweet, bready malt. Finishes dry and slightly bitter finish.

M- Very light bodied. It has medium carbonation.

D- This could be a really easy beer to drink all night, but it's just not my thing.

A: Upon first pour, I was left with about a one finger head which disapated quickly. Pour a nice golden color.
S: I get a hint of hops right off the bat. However there is a bit of sweetness too, showing the malt coming through.
T: A great balance between the malts and the hops. Just a hint of alcohol at the back. Perhaps some sweetness.
M: Mildly carbonated and crisp.
D: Off the charts. Not filling and extremely partakable. Refreshing.

Poured a slightly cloudy golden yellow, with no head and a slight lace and floaties which collected at the bottom. Smells like a typical non-macro burp beer. A little twinge of the alcohol, not much else. Mouth was thin but foamy with a lingering sweet aftertaste. Not much else. Taste? Well, we have Great Lakes Dortmunder here in Cleveland and that seems to be a spot on standard. I compare beers higher or lower based on GL. The Cumberland Brewery in Louisville was higher. This would rate lower. It was a decent lager. Dry and slight hoppy fruit. Malty finish, about a standard non-macro lager.

I like the label. There are a lot of lagers like this out there, but it's not a Dort. Since I don't buy beers for labels, pass.

at first the head on this brew looked ok, but eventually is a goner. i doubt i can expect too much from dortmunder froth. gold hue to be foreseen

the aroma is of heavenly hop--really, this one has a fantastic bouquet for the representative of a relatively modest style. good lager malts with grassy, floral hops

sweet, but as it should be; hoppy, but as it should be; bitter (?), but as it should be; and even a little spice towards the end. the malt has good depth and contributes to a very nice drinking experience

great tasty session brew. this would be great to have pouring from a kegerator throughout summer. bravo

12 oz bottle with printed "best by 9/14/09" date, poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a mostly clear light gold color with a one-finger white head that lingers for a while.

The nose has some breaded malts, noble hop aroma, and just a hint of lemon zest.

Taste is fairly well-balanced with the breaded malts up front and a less pronounced hop bitterness sting on the back end which lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is crisp, refreshing, and somewhat drinkable; medium body, not much carbonation.

This is my first Dortmunder and I look forward to comparing it to some other offerings.

A few remaining beers left from my Two Brothers sample pack.

A: Eh, a golden lager with a white head the quickly fades to nothing. No lace.

S: Nose is bready with a bit of hop spiciness to liven things up.

T: Only my second Dortmunder brew, but the Great Lakes version was much better. Weak malt finish, slightly sweet, with an awkward bitter ending. Very strange and not that enjoyable.

M & D: Medium bodied for the style and very dry. Very lackluster beer.

Reviewed on 07/31/2009. On gravity keg at Blind Tiger. Pours a cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma of sweet fruit and orange peel. Flavor of light, sweet lager malt, nice citrus hops, and wheat/bread. Nice and refreshing. It was a pleasant surprise.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a duvel tulip.

Pale straw yellow. Gold and clear with whipped egg white head about two fingers worth.

Smell is spicey and lemony. A bit of coriander.

Taste is crisp and clean. Suprisingly sweet. A strong maly backbone but pretty well balanced. Lemon zest and spice.

Nice light mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth.

This is my first dortmunder and the drinkability was prettygood. Not great a a drinkable beer.

This might be the first dortmunder I've had ever; at least as long as I've been paying attention. The name makes it sound stronger than what it is so I've avoided it as a summer drink. The bartender described it as sweeter than a pilsner but the same lightness otherwise. That's pretty much what I would call it as well. Very drinkable, a little bit of malty sweetness but still as refreshing as a good pilsner. Great combination of maltiness and drinkability. Good color and good carbonation as well.

Poured into Pilsner glass.

A: Brilliant gold with mild carbonation. The beer struggled to form much of a head. What did form was soapy and quickly receded to a ring at the edge of the beer. Left small veins of lace.

S: The nose is pleasant and mild. It consists of a balanced blend of agave sweetness and lemon tartness.

T: Light, refreshing and flavorful. Starts with a mild malt sweetness. A pepper bitterness quickly joins in with a fairly pronounced bite. Gets a little funky toward the end when a pronounced metallic flavor kicks in. It lingers with the pepper flavor through the beer's finish.

M: The light body feels a bit to fizzy.

D: This is an OK beer. The metallic flavors detracted from the experience for me. The low ABV makes it go down easily.
