Poured from a 22 oz. bottle in to a snifter glass.

L - Gold/orange and slightly hazy. Short white head after a vigorous pour that was gone quickly, little to no lacing on the glass.

S - Sharp aroma of hops hits you right away....citrus, grass, and pine notes.

T - Hop bite at first, then a strong malt backbone on the finish, very balanced.

F - Hop oils coat the tongue and gives this one a nice body.

O - No bottle on or best by date to be found so I'm not sure of the freshness. Other than that it's a pretty solid brew.

22 oz bottle. I believe this is their wet hop brew, so with what I know about wet hops this might not be the freshest sample. however, being a consumer without any idea of that and no packaging date, what am I to do.

pours a slightly hazy amber hue. a slight oxidation, but pretty juicy too. besides the minor oxidation, the flavor is still great. bitterness is low, citrus flavor is high. really resinous. decent sized body. good shit overall.

Incredibly appropriate for a wet-hopped autumn seasonal, Heavier Handed! has a crisp orange complexion, chilly haze, as well as gossamer-like head and lacing. It blends right in with the fall foliage currently seen outside my window - heck, this would make a great Bob Ross painting!

The strong aromas of wet leaves and dewy grass are no surprise given this beer was made with locally sourced hops added the same day they were picked. The more concentrated and pungent bouquet, as well as the emphasis on herbalness (as opposed to, say, citrus), is likely a direct result of this technique. Good to know the effort wasn't wasted... this smells great!

And that duo of earthy and floral qualities continue on the palate with notes of strongly-steeped jasmine green tea. Far from astringent, however, the hops also provide ripe pineapple and subtle pine flavours too. It's a spell-binding blend of the Pacific North-West and the Tropics.

And while I know this is meant to be all about the hops, I'd be remiss not to mention the malts which, for their part, provide tastes of toffee biscuits, butterscotch, slivered almonds, and nougat. This humbled backdrop provides a nice cradle between bitter and sweet and soaks up much of the overly astringent leafiness left in the finish.

Heavier Handed! is not - contrary to its name and style - the kind of beer to smack you across the face with booze and bitterness. It's a very approachable offering for something of its specs (84 IBU and 8.1%) and is as drinkable as something half its size. Powerful and full-bodied, this nonetheless has the exquisite integration between malt and hop no one can say 'no' to. Great stuff!
