12 oz. bottle, with best by date 01/08/2015 printed on the back label. A new seasonal to me from Two Brothers brewing Company.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a coppery orange colored body with about a finger of khaki head that fades to a ring. Semi-transparent with some light fine sedimentation visible. Leaves behind some thin spotty lacing. Looks alright. 3.5

S - The smell is lightly sweet, caramel / toffee malts, some earthiness / woodsiness, but it doesn't smell barrel aged or foudre aged or whatever. Lightly boozy & phenolic. 3

T - Taste is the same - caramel malt, toffee malt, vague notions of dark fruit, notes of oak & wood. Some appley sort of flavor present as well. Fairly simple in it's approach, a little bit more alcohol content than I'm used to for the style. 3.5

M - The feel is crisp & clean. Malty finish. Medium-full bodied, with low carbonation. 3

Overall, an okay representation of the style; very simple and average though, I would say. Not something I am likely to pick up again.

12 fluid ounce bottle
Glass of Choice: Nonic Pint

Bottle Notes: “Oktoberfest Style Lager. Aged in French Oak Foudres”

Eyes:
Translucent copper/amber body. Off-white head, about an inch thick collapsed and left a respectable amount of lacing.

Nose:
Herbal hops. Toast. Sweet bread.

Tongue:
Rich presence of malts: Dark fruits, biscuit, and sweet rolls. The hops snuck in and enhanced the fruity flavors, finishing with a short-lived, yet strong hit of citric hops. Very subtle signs of oak from the aging. Does not fall short on flavor. Minor woody/earthy notes from the oak, nothing spectacular. Medium-full body. Moderate/low carbonation.

Overall: While the aging concept makes this Oktoberfest sound appealing, overall it fell shy of expectations.

I am digging this marten style beer. The hoppy smell and taste of Carmel and spice was a unique treat. Also has that German bite and finish.
