Nose of lightly toasted malts, caramels, ripe juicy apples and fermented fruit, a bit of yeast, traces of butterscotch, and a touch of ABV. After it warms, there's also hints of vanilla.

Taste presents toasted malts and caramels on a subtle background of neutral wood. Just enough dried herbal/floral bittering hops to be noticed. ABV is completely hidden. Darker, woody tones emerge deep into the glass. Finish, while balanced, leans towards the hops/wood.

Smooth and luscious across the tongue. Moderate body that thins out as it warms. Finish leans toward the dry side.

Tasty expression of the style, especially with using the oak to smooth and polish the beer.

I enjoyed this 12oz in a cervoise chilled, review from notes.

The color is deep amber with light haze and visible carbonation with thin white cap and very fine bead with great retention and spots of lace stick. The smell is very bready and light toasted grain in the aroma with subtle yeast ester and light fruity accent with slight mineral accent. The feel is mildly yeasty with slight bitterness and light sweet tinge with semi-dry quality with moderate carbonation and gently tangy accent in the finish.

The taste is very nice with malt presence up front with mild grain taste with subtle yeast which has a light mineral edge leading into a caramel flavor from the malt and slight herbal hop character with semi-dry finish which has a light spice quality with mild alcohol taste. The Atom Smasher is interesting and very decent lager with nice drinkability and light malt sweetness w/out much wood character but it does contribute a slight lactic malt quality.

Sampled today on 10/13/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a handled glass "CHEER'S-BOSTON" mug.

Pours a pretty deep copper-amber in color with a thin off-white head. Some spotty lacing was seen when sipped, but not much and didn't stick. The aroma smelled 'soapy' for some reason and some caramel malts as well. Pretty much was the same for the taste with a hint of wood. After about 3 more good sips, I poured it out. Medium bodied and perfect carbonation...for the drain. LOL! Overall, the worst Oktoberfest brew I have had this season. Maybe I had a bad bottle? BUT the back of the label said "BEST BY: 01/08/15".
