The beer pours a golden-orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of boozy wheat, with some orange citrus notes thrown in. The flavor is very similar. I get orange and coriander up front, with a strong wheat backbone. There is also a good amount of bubblegum, which I assume is from the yeast. The alcohol is also very noticeable. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Thanks, whartontallboy!

(Aged for 2 years)

Golden orange with just a little bit of a haze. Largely clear, however. Small head and not a lot of retention, lace, or stick.

Wheat, banana, mild bubblegum in the aroma, along with a bit of black pepper, spice, and a citrus hop component, even after aging for a while.

Interesting combination of all of the above in the flavor as well. A bit of booze presence peeks through.

Slick medium bodied. Low-moderate carbonation.

An interesting take on a wheat wine. Not great, but sippable.

Happy to see one of the Two Brothers rare offerings available at my local I had to jump on this release, excellent stuff. Pours a glowing amber hue with a semi hazed body with a brilliant off what creme color. Aroma has a multilayered level of caramel banana glazed dessert like beer in a 12.7 oz green bottle corked and caged. Fine lacing forms down the sides of the glass as the head slowly dwindles down. Back to the nose there's more tart layers some raisin, sharp citrus notes and a bit of well hidden booze in the nose. Super sweet wheatwine lays heavy on the palate with over ripened caramelized bananas, sweet bulging raisins exploding, with caramel malt and alcohol swimming together in this crazy dessert beer. As you add the yeast sediment things actually come together and it mellows the sweetness a bit adding some complex dry and nutty characteristics. An oak barrel would do this beer justice right now it's a big explosive wheat beer full of banana clove and a bit of well hidden alcohol, I'm wondering how high the alcohol is in this one. Not much alcohol burn on the palate but a big chewy malt backbone leads the charge, a bit cloying but much more bearable with the yeast added into the glass moderate natural carbonation levels. Overall a creative big wheatwine that was more approachable than most of the big wheat beers I've attempted thus far. I really like this brewer and that may sway me to like it more than I would typically, but the beer speaks for itself. It makes a questionable style or something I uncomfortable about buying blindly a good decision.

Review #2200

12.7 oz. corked & caged bottle, served in a tulip glass.
Label artwork by Brett Hetelle, depicting a leafless tree growing from the Two Bros. swirly logo.

Deep saturated orange, glowing and reflecting lots of color. Thin layer of white foam across the surface, quickly dissipating into a swirling seafoam skim. Spotty lace and a thin ring at the edges of the glass.

Signature yeast notes of banana and clove, phenolic and spicy like a big weizenbock. Light notes of bubblegum and fried plantains in caramel syrup.

Full bodied and burly, some hints of warming alcohol and enveloping layers of wheat and malt complexity. The yeast contributes much of the flavor, with more of the banana and clove notes that begin with the aroma. Viscous feel, again very full bodied. "Watery" it is not, lol. Seems pretty potent, one to sip by a fire or some similar heat source. Not sure really how much the recipe varies from year to year, as it seems pretty much how I remember it in recent years past, minus the apricot flavors from last year.

Shared with dad and brother (thanks George). Opened after a few other shared bottles.

Poured from a 12.7 oz bottle into a tall glass. Cloudy orange amber color with very little head or foam lingering on the glass.

Smell is flowery and piney. Not overpouring and subdued.

Taste is true to its style. Flavor is subdued. Piney and citrusy notes. The Belgian yeast appears in the finish.

Mouthfeel is undercarbed and a bit watery.

I enjoyed the company I shared this beer with much more than the beer itself. I would not purchase or drink again.

Served from a 12oz bottle.

This is the first Wheatwine style beer that I have ever but I am familiar with the Barleywine style of beers.

The appearance was similar to a barleywine although a touch lighter in color but it fit the bill for the style I figure. There was a slight thickness to the swirl and a very slight foam on top and along the sides as the glass emptied. The smell was true of a weiss/barleywine style beer aroma with a slight sweetness which was nice. The taste was slightly tart but full of flavor all the way through the serving. I was not sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised with wheat malt, currant/raisin flavors. The mouthfeel I felt was good mix of weiss and barleywine = wheatwine style as it was full bodied and had hints of a strong but good wheatwine beer was left behind. Overall I was impressed with the Baretree Wheatwine but I have not had many of this style but I would buy this this beer again.

Pours a hazy orange-ish color with a light tan head. In the aroma, wheaty, banana, and notes of lemon citrus. In the taste, a dry banana peel, with just a note of alcohol. A smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small, dry lemon citrus and note of alcohol in the aftertaste. Big, but not. Nice mix of banana and citrus with small presence of alcohol.
