22oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Light brown color. Even with a slow pour, the head filled up half the glass (3+ fingers) and lingers
S: Bready/malty with light fig and caramel notes
T: Largely matches the nose though with the fig initially, then caramel then bread
M: Light-bodied, crisp but a bit sweet
O: Light, a bit sweet (I'd prefer it a bit drier) but good complexity given the low abv making it a great session beer

(Served in a Nonic)
A- This beer has a crystal clear dense reddish-brown body with a gentle carbonation and a thin film of beige head.

S- The soft notes of coffee roasted malt blends with some fresh raw grain notes.

T- The full flavor of gently roasted malt has a softer coffee malt hint in the finish and some fresh raw grain flavors. There is a nice soft green hop snap in the finish and a touch of mineral water comes through as it opens.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a tight little fizz that enhances the body and the malt flavors in the finish. There is no alcohol heat noticed.

O- This beer is a wonderful example of a dark mild. The great fresh flavor really shows off the fresh malt and a perfect little hop flavor to end each sip. This is a treat to drink and it would make a great session beer. Cask condition could only make it better. Sad to see this one go.

Glass: Standard US pint

Review from notes taken in May 2012

Two Brothers has a solid session ale with their Dark Mild, a style that is unfortunately rather neglected in today's packaged beers. I enjoyed this quite a bit, as with the other Two Brothers milds that have been released, and found myself wishing I had purchased more bombers of it, or that the beer was released annually. The ale itself is a good combination of caramel and toasted malts with nut and cocoa-like flavors adding some complexity. One I'd recommend others to try, and one I'd pick up again, should it be re-released.

Pours a 1cm head of beige to light tan foam composed of small and medium-sized bubbles that has above average retention. The foam lasts several minutes in a slow decline to a thin cap of lace atop the body. Lacing on the sides of the glass is present, good, several large stripes and patterns adorn the innards of the glass. Beer's body is a deep brown with amber tones to it, light bringing out brown-orange hues. Body is transparent, with visible and very active carbonation.

Aroma is mild, as expected for the style, consisting of caramel and toasted malt, light cocoa, and faint hazelnut coffee with cream. Not particularly forceful in its expression, but the components are distinct and enjoyable for a mild session beer.

Overall taste is similar to the scent, with modest caramel and toasted malts, nut-like flavors that primarily remind me of hazelnuts, and some cocoa powder-like qualities throughout as well. Tasting opens with toasted malt sweetness that has some caramel-like sweetness and nuttiness as well. Mid-palate notices many different flavors, bringing in hazelnuts, cocoa powder, continued caramel-like sweetness, and very minor British hop bitterness. Back of palate continues the cocoa and toasted malt flavors, along with some light acridity, perhaps from English hops or whatever roasted malt was used to give the cocoa powder flavor. The aftertaste is sweet, with hints of toasted nuts, particularly hazelnuts.

Beer is medium-light in body, with carbonation levels of medium intensity. The resultant mouthfeel is a bit thin, which somewhat disappointing, because a slightly more substantial mouthfeel would perfectly meld with the flavors and aromas of the beer. Closes semi-dry, with little stickiness across the palate, which makes taking another sip quite easy.

Trying the third retro release from two bros. The beer pours a clear dark rich amber with very thin slightly off white head that is not lacing. The smell has a very nice caramel malt scent with small small hints of roast. The taste is much like the smell...caramel malt present then followed by buttering hops that cleanse the pallet. The mouthfeel is light in body with decent carbonation. Overall this would be a great session ale.

I've had this beer on tap and from the bottle. It is, for me, hands down the perfect session beer. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Little to no hop presence, which suits me just fine. So easy to drink and unoffensive, I could drink this all day long and feel satisfied and refreshed! Goes really well with food, too. My only complaint is that it's not a year round release. One can only hope.

Pours a nice mahogany with ruby tinges, 3 fingers of off white head.

The aroma is potently fruity, figs, dates, over-ripe peaches. Lots of caramel sweetness with a strong malt presence.

The taste is very nice, well balanced. Just enough bitterness to keep it from being cloying.

The mouthfeel is light as is to be expected from a 3% brew.

Overall this is a very nice beer and one I would definitely seek out again, they do a very good job packing a lot of flavor into a "small" beer.

Thanks to Pawola22 for sending me this bottle.

The beer pours a brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is very nice. I get some toffee and caramel notes, as well as a little bit of nuttiness. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of toffee and nut notes, as well as a hint of dry cocoa powder. Thin to medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This beer has a lot of body and flavor for a beer that is so low in alcohol. This is very well done.
