A coppery amber color in the tulip glass. The head is a little deficient. Smells like dishwater with some manila rope.

An odd metallic sort of taste. Plum skins is about as much as I can put words to. It doesn't really taste like much of anything. A tangy mouthfeel, a very light body, but not much carbonation. Inoffensive, but not what I'm hoping for in this usually interesting style. There are so many good Bière de Gardes I am spanking this one. What ever it is, I think the brothers should have stayed out of it.

On tap at Pizza Port in San Diego. They called it an "Amber Bière de Garde."

Poured into a tulip glass at Fondren Public on my birthday.

A: A hazy copper with a tan one finger head that lingered a bit. Frothy lacing. Pretty.

S: Bring on the sweetness. Caramel malts mixed with dark fruits (raisins, dates, plums) and Belgian yeast.

T: Follows nose with candied sweetness that might turn some drinkers off. But I love it. I'm even picking up a hint of cognac. Light hops bring in a pleasant balance. This one is a sipper, even an after dinner drink.

M: Medium with medium carbonation. Nice frothing on the tongue.

O: If you don't like sweet beers, stay away. But for me, this was a pleasure. A fine respite after a hard day. Probably great with a cigar.

On-tap at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is clear very dark amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of earthy yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste has a slight bit of sweetness and has notes of earthy yeast and hints of dark fruits.
M: It feels medium-bodied and smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems a little fruitier compared to other beers in the style.

(Served in a tulip glass)
A- The bright crystal clear copper body has a gentle carbonation of microbubbles and a lumpy off-white head that last a good bit.

S- The candy esters come through during the pour but fade a bit in the glass. There is some soft lightly toasted malt and green raisins notes that take on a bit of a new sneaker aroma as it opens.

T- The nice candy sweetness has a toasted marshmallow hint to them and some green raisins notes. There is a lightly toasted malt flavor mixed in followed by a soft tartness to the hop hint in the dry finish. The dry toasted malt flavor lingers becoming just a bit sweet as it opens.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a crisp fizz on the tongue and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- The gentle hops support a nice mellow malt flavor with some good depth and a sweetness that is cut nicely by the fizz. This beer really adds depth as it opens up.

Nice darker copper color. Quick head and no residual foamage. A few thin strands of tiny bubbles make there way to the top of the brew.

Dry caramel with a little toasted malt. The hops add some earthy aromas of dried grass and a little lemon grass.

Toasty biscuits, caramel, and bread crust make up this somewhat sweet malt bill. The hops add the right touch of dryness with some earthy, hoppy balance. The mouthfeel is crisp, dry, yet a little slippery and oily. Pretty easy to drink and pleasant.

On tap at Two Brothers Tap House - Warrenville, IL
Poured into a snifter, the ale is a brilliant copper color with nice clarity and a tall, foamy, ivory head. Good head retention and leaves tons of lacing down the glass. Aromas are apple, oak, vanilla, white wine, sweet and somewhat sour. Complexity is excellent with smooth, delicate flavors; light malt, toffee, caramel, toasty, oaky, vanilla, apple, grape, slight earthiness. Mouth-feel is velvety smooth, rich, and creamy, medium-to-full body, lower carbonation, and finishes semi-dry. Overall, I thought this was well concocted and a nice treat to come across at the brewery. Even though it's 6.3% ABV, it drinks like it's more. Nothing wrong with that at all - I just liked it as a sipper.
