On tap

Appearance-Hazy deep gold, small white head that lingers a bit.

Aroma-Banana, clove, appricots, bready, litttle bit of alcohol

Flavor- Sweet but balanced, light bready malt, cloves, banana, fruity esters, alcohol warmth

Mouthfeel- Full, somewhat chewy, medium carb, smooth

Overall- I liked this beer, I don't think I could drink more than one at a time but an enjoyable sipper on a nice summer night. I'd like to try it with another year or so age on it to see how it develops.

A - Golden with red highlights, cloudy, with a moderate white head that fades quickly and provides very little lacing.

S - Strong alcohol thread, honey and maple sweetness, and buttery caramel notes.

T - Following the nose, caramel and wheat bread, alcohol and maple and fruity banana notes. Close narrows to two main notes: caramel and alcohol burn.

M - Sticky alcohol burn, but fairly light on its feet and doesn't club the drinker over the head, which at 11% ABV is a nice trick.

O - I really liked this wheatwine. The beer has aged well, and any sharp edges have smoothed and mellowed, meaning this is a silky, sweet charmer.

From: Friar Tuck, Savoy, IL
Date: 2012 vintage
Glass: Tulip

Two Brothers' Bare Tree is a pale caramel, malt syrup, and bread-with-ethanol forward beer, a slow sipper for those colder nights of fall and winter. I was not impressed by the fairly uninventive flavor profile of the beer, which makes the ethanol less worth consuming, but at least this was not a "hot mess" of burning alcohol. Not one I'd return to again, particularly for $7.50 per bottle.

Pours a 1cm head of slightly off-white bubbles, small in size and fairly well-packed, yielding a frothy appearance, but this quickly fades in under one minute to a thin ring around the glass and a few dots of residual foam atop the body of the beer. Lacing is present, though minimal, a small collection of lines and dots cling to the walls of the glass. Body is a vibrant copper orange color, with light bringing out bright orange hues. Carbonation is visible through the hazy (30-40% opaque) body, low in amount and activity.

Aroma of malt syrup, pale caramel, bread, slight cracker, and ethanol. Very smooth, rich, and heavy, more syrupy and sweet than a doppelbock's heavy toast and dark caramel flavor.

Overall flavor palette of heavy pale caramel, toasted and untoasted wheat bread, some yeast phenolics, slight acetone, and sharp ethanol. Front of palate picks up heavy, though pale-flavored caramel with some toasted bread crusts, mild yeast-produced phenolics, and mild ethanol. Mid-palate of thick, though pale-flavored caramel, mild wheat bread, spicy phenolics, slight acetone, and moderate ethanol. Back of palate finds rich and heavy caramel malt, sharp phenolics, equally sharp ethanol. Aftertaste is of thick, pale-flavored caramel, light wheat bread, mild phenolics, and modest, though noticeable, ethanol.

Beer is heavy-bodied, with low levels of carbonation, giving this a slightly foamy (1/5), but mostly smooth (4/5) mouthfeel that's appropriate for the heavy, sipping style and beer that this is. Ethanol can be fairly easily felt in the nostrils, on the tongue and back of the throat: expected given the 11% ABV, yet still a bit disappointing in its obviousness. Closes dry, with moderate stickiness on the palate and lips.

Poured from 12.7 oz bottle into tulip glass with 2 inch head that settled fairly quick. Color is hazy golden . Appears to be a bit of yeast sediment

Aroma is faint but getting some banana , clove, and some peach

Taste starts off tasting like a hefe as the aroma would indicate. Settles into a bit of fruity sweetness with a crisp finish

Mouthfeel. - carb is a bit low might be due to the age. Its a bit creamy too which I like.

Overall - refreshing summer beer. The alcohol burn hits you a few seconds afterwards but besides that its pretty well hidden. Found this in a small liquor store a couple of weeks ago, I might pick this up again .

A - Pours a hazed golden copper with half a finger of near white head. Fairly weak head and retention. Lacing is poor

S - honey wheat, boozy heat, slightly lemony and strong Belgian yeast aromas.

T - As it smells, nice and clove yeasty as well. Honey wheat followed by ample belgian boozy spice burn

M - Lighter bodied but slightly sticky/chewy. Decent carbonation

O - A great combination of big lemony grassy wheat and belgian/barley alcohol burn.
