Bottle from Piccadilly off Neil in Champaign, IL
Best by 7/5/12
Poured into a tulip glass
I'm rather surprised by the negative reviews here. This was a fairly substantial witbier that hit many of the right notes: coriander, orange, a bit of graininess, and some herbs that can either be attributed to hops or actual herb usage. The low ethanol content and generally bright, fruit-meets-coriander-meets yeast flavors make this easily sessionable; what's not to like?
A somewhat forceful pour to halfway, then gently agitating the bottle to loosen the yeast, then finishing the pour produces a fairly nice 2cm head of clean, white bubbles that are quite dense. Head descends over two minutes to a ring around he glass with a few large islands of residual foam atop the body. Lacing is modest, but there, some streaks and dots appear after each sip. Body is a deep golden yellow color, opaque from the re-suspended yeast, but carbonation is visible along the upper sides of the glass.
Aroma of yeast, mild orange, coriander, a bit of grainy cereal, very faint banana. Good, upfront, robust.
Taste opens with strong coriander blended with mild orange and malt sweetness. Some yeast flavor is present, with grain and spicy, vaguely peppery notes in the back. Mild orange flavor rides out through the finish, along with yeast and coriander. Aftertaste is somewhat bland, sweetness with muted coriander and orange.
Body is medium-heavy, surprising for the ethanol level, and very smooth, possibly due to the addition of oats. Carbonation is moderate, producing a slightly foamy result across the palate. Close is semi-dry, from lingering sweetness.

Very pale yellow color. Cloudy, as it should be. Delightful aroma of lemon, orange, and coriander. Flavor is not quite as citrusy as the aroma. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there is some smoke going on here. It's a little different than most witbiers. More focus on the wheat and oats than it is the coriander and orange peel. Those are there, but subtle.
I like it. Good balance, good taste, enough twist on the style to make it unique.
