Bottle from Piccadilly off Neil in Champaign, IL
Best by 7/5/12
Poured into a tulip glass

I'm rather surprised by the negative reviews here. This was a fairly substantial witbier that hit many of the right notes: coriander, orange, a bit of graininess, and some herbs that can either be attributed to hops or actual herb usage. The low ethanol content and generally bright, fruit-meets-coriander-meets yeast flavors make this easily sessionable; what's not to like?

A somewhat forceful pour to halfway, then gently agitating the bottle to loosen the yeast, then finishing the pour produces a fairly nice 2cm head of clean, white bubbles that are quite dense. Head descends over two minutes to a ring around he glass with a few large islands of residual foam atop the body. Lacing is modest, but there, some streaks and dots appear after each sip. Body is a deep golden yellow color, opaque from the re-suspended yeast, but carbonation is visible along the upper sides of the glass.

Aroma of yeast, mild orange, coriander, a bit of grainy cereal, very faint banana. Good, upfront, robust.

Taste opens with strong coriander blended with mild orange and malt sweetness. Some yeast flavor is present, with grain and spicy, vaguely peppery notes in the back. Mild orange flavor rides out through the finish, along with yeast and coriander. Aftertaste is somewhat bland, sweetness with muted coriander and orange.

Body is medium-heavy, surprising for the ethanol level, and very smooth, possibly due to the addition of oats. Carbonation is moderate, producing a slightly foamy result across the palate. Close is semi-dry, from lingering sweetness.

Another score from The Friendly Greek, one of my local bottle shops!

From the bottle: "Our Anniversary Brew"; This classic Belgian-style White Beer is brewed with unmalted wheat, a touch of oats, and then traditionally spiced with coriander and orange peel for a crisp, refreshing taste and spicy aroma."; "Two Brothers is a craft brewery on the outskirts of Chicago that specializes in rare and seldom-brewed beer styles. The two of us - Jason and Jim Ebel - strive to produce the very best beers available anywhere."; "We hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!"

My aggro our initially created two fizzy fingers of bone-white head, but it quickly reduced to wisps. Nose had a definitive wheat odor, along with a peppery spiciness and a light mustiness. Color was a hazy golden-yellow (SRM = 4 - 5), but it was apparently too hazy for the likes of Midas, Mammon and Croesus, since they never showed up. Mouthfeel was light, spritzy and quite effervescent. The taste was lemony, with a black pepper bite and the effervescence gave it a soda pop-like quality. Finish was semi-dry and very refreshing on a hot, humid afternoon. I would not want it all the time, but on this occasion, it was just right.

Appearance: Pours a rather hazy goldenstraw with a modest head; a few strands of lace are left

Smell: Cookie dough aromatics with cardamom and a bit of citrus peel

Taste: Fruit forward, with the cookie dough underneath; the cardamom and citrus peel build through the middle; the finish is crisp and fruity, as well

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: A refreshing wit; not the top one on the market but not too shabby, either

I really like this beer. It is crisp and refreshing.

Chilled 12 oz. bottle into a weizen glass. Best by date 7.6.13.

Look- clear, pale color. Dense lacing, pretty head.

Smell- clean, not very strong clove and light malt.

Taste- Light and fresh, very clean. Mild in spiciness with a bit of sweetness. Light crisp aftertaste. Not too strong, not too mild.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium body. A bit of carbonation, crisp and smooth.

Overall - Very good, refreshing. A great refreshing beer.
