Bottled review, not quite as good as my previous experience with a nice keg a few years ago.

A= nice medium-brown, very small head for a tap-beer.

S= nose-catching aroma. Hops florals and bitters evident, slight liquor traits. Hints of nutty traits.

T= smooth, hops-bite, florals, dry malts. Maybe some prune and apricot in the finish with a little liquor in there. Woody hints and some smoky nutty qualities.

M= Nice finish and aftertaste, a little dry with a slight bite. Some earthy dryness.

D= decent, worth the try or in session. If you like it, get a bullet-keg if you can.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue II:

The beer has session ale written all over it. Only 4.3 percent ABV and its being called a Nut Brown Ale are obvious traits. The moderate level of carbonation sparks a healthy-looking lace, crystal clear tawny color. Both toasted and caramel malt flavors run deep with rustic bread and dark sugar in the aroma, fruitiness leans toward plums and pears. Smooth mouthfeel. Shows a little bit of body. Nice handful of malt flavor for a smaller beer, you do get that trademark toasty nutty malt flavor and a good dose of bready and light caramel flavors too. Mild on the hops, bitterness is subtle and balanced with a kiss of woody herbal flavor. Hint of fruitiness with a vague chocolate tone middle to end, perhaps a faint buttery flavor within.

A session ale it is and without uncertainty, par for the style. Very easy to quaff, it can also be used as a stepping stone beer for the less adventurous.

Wild Goose Nut Brown Ale
Wild Goose Brewery, LLC
Style: English Brown Ale, ABV: 4.30 %
reviewed 9/11/09, (this is a retired brew)
bought a dusty 6 pack from Broudy's JB on sale

bottle>Duvel tulip glass

4/4.5/4.5/3.5/4

Appearance was a deep cola color, respectable 2F tan/creamy head with short retention. Left a nice tan foam skim/cap entire beer.

Smell is a semi-sweet deep fruit aromas on a solid malt backbone. Rich Pecan pir complexities in aroma.

Tastes as it smells with some fruit forward nutty-ness. Ballanced on a sweet but not cloying maltyness. Nut character is evident in the taste.

Mouthfeel is medium-light carbonation, medium-full body, full bodied for a nut ale IMO.

Drinkability is a sessionable nut ale @ 4/3% abv, too bad it is no longer being made. It held up to my nut ale expectations as an inspiration for my next seasonal home brew.

A: Clear, cola colored. Head is decent, but short-lived. Laces a little bit.

S: Brown sugar, some hops detectable, pretty flowery. A little yeast in the background. Some caramel.

T: Flavor is a little weak, but mostly of brown sugar, caramel, and some fairly bitter hops. Aftertaste has a nutty flavor. Some chocolate flavor in the background. Really needs to be less watery. Needs to have a stronger flavor. Aftertaste is completely gone about 5 seconds after swallowing.

M: The mouthfeel is definitely watery as well. Light body. Non-astringent. Leaves the mouth dry.

D: It goes down alright, but isn't that satisfying.

A: Looks like pouring a coke or a pepsi. Dark brown with some reddish hues. A small white head. Very minimal lacing.

S: Mostly caramel with some bready malt scents. Nothing too strong, but evident.

T: The caramel malt is the most predominant flavor, with some hints of bread. On the back end, you can get a slight taste of hops, but nothing really prevalent.

M: Seems a bit thin, lots of carbonation.

D: Very low ABV, easy to drink, nothing overly complicated. A nice brown ale, which is a good change of pace on occasion.

Pours a dark brown, with ruby hues in the light. A half inch light tan head forms on the pour and lingers with decent retention leaving some nice lace behind.

The aroma is ok. Notes of chocolate and caramel are the big players.

The taste is decent. A good bit of chocolate with a nice grainy profile as well. Almost burnt malts, with a hint of smoke. A little nutty, and slightly dry. Very pleasant.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and adequately carbonated.

Drinkability is fairly high. Easily sessionable, and the flavors are there. A nice easy drinking beer, a pleasure to have.

Pours a clear dark copper color that turns reddish when held to the light. There is a white fluffy head at the beginning that dissipates to a thin lacing.
Smell is dominated by a very strong caramel malt scent. There is a slight hop smell as well.
Taste is also dominated by the caramel malt. Much like the smell, there is a slight hop tinge at the end, but mostly the caramel malts.
Mouthfeel has a good amount of carbonation for the style, with a good amount of thickness too.
Drinkability is very nice for the style. This beer has a good amount of taste while keeping a good drinkability. Definitely a good nut brown that one could easily drink a six pack of during a sitting.

Bottle courtesy of seanpachefddfa, thanks again!

Beer pours a dark brown / cola color, very clean with a thin white head. Lots of bubbles visible.

Aromas are sweet, chocolaty, with some nuts and roasted malts.

Taste is clean, a bit crisp, with a sort of vegetal and earthy malt flavor. There are some lightly light cola notes, some nuts, and a spicy hop finish. A little on the overly dry side, with a slight metalic feel and taste.

Mouthfeel is not bad. Feels about right for the style, a bit full and first, then settles into good carbonation, maybe a little too dry for my liking though.

Drinkability is good. This is a pretty nice and sessionable brown ale. It's not going to wow you, but I'd be happy to drink another one.

Had this at Thinking Man's Tavern in Atlanta.

Pours a slightly hazy brown color with a big three-finger off-white head that I have to let settle before pouring the rest of the beer. The head dissipates pretty quickly into a patchy layer of bubbles on top and a thin ring around the glass. Not much lacing.

Smells a bit fruity with a good amount of caramel malts and nutty aromas.

Tastes good. Up front the malt and nut flavors predominate, then as it warms the fruit flavors come out a bit more. The nutty flavors aren't quite as nutty as others of the style, rather they're on the sweeter side.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a decent thickness with subdued carbonation that make this go down relatively smooth.

Drinkability is good. The flavors aren't the most inviting in the world, but it's certainly not hard to finish the bottle.

Overall this is a decent offering for the style, although there are many others that capture it better. Worth a shot if you're hankering for a light brown ale.

Pours from the bottle a deep mahogany brown, near opaque with ruby highlights. A frothy brown head forms and disappears very quickly leaving no lacing.

Smell is clean and fresh with dark toasted malt and dark chocolate tones with a hint of hops.

Taste is of dark chocolate and the roasted malts, some nuttiness with a bitter slightly sour finish in the back of the mouth. Slightly astringent in taste along with some chalkiness. Flavors improve some with warming.

Mouthfeel is medium though slightly watery with slightly flat loose carbonation.

Not the greatest drinkability I've encountered but not bad, I'm sure there are better samples of the style.

Appearance: Pours a clear russet brown with a rocky cap that leaves a few dots and dashes

Smell: Milk chocolate dust over a nut bread backbone

Taste: Opens with a brown bread character that adds some hints of chocolate and nuts by mid-palate; after the swallow, it turns a bit grainy and takes on a flavor that is reminiscent of nut oil that is just about to go off

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Another average ale from Wild Goose; not much going on in these parts

Twelve ounce bottle pours a clear, cola brown body with a small beige head that quickly vanishes. Some sparse patchy lacing is left on the glass. Aroma is muted, just some hints of chocolate and grassy hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and overcarbonated. Taste has some chocolate and vague hop bitterness. Very underwhelming. Starting to think that maybe this is an older bottle that has lost its freshness.. I'll try to do a repeat tasting if I can locate a bottle known to be fresh.

A - Medium brown in color, with a small fizzy cap for a head. No lace is to be found, and the little cap is gone in a minute or two.

S - Caramel, chocolate, and brown sugar. Smells sweet, like caramel fudge brownies...albeit not so heavy.

T - Underpowered toffee, milk chocolate, and root beer. Tastes like a chocolate tootsie roll pop.

M - Light bodied, lightly carbonated, and fresh.

D - A boring but unoffensive brown ale. Drinkable enough, but it's quickly loosing my interest. I'll forget about this one in a few days and probably buy it again several months from now thinking that I've never reviewed it.

Pours a 1 finger head with good lacing and a dark brown color.

Smell is of nuts and caramel malts. It is pretty strong and seems to indicate that I'm in for a nice malty brown ale.

Taste is a nutty with a good burst of caramel malt sweetness. I'd like their to be more flavor though. It's pretty weak. There is a sort of floral/citrusy/minty flavor on the finish. The hops just balance the beer out. As the beer wamrs it does become more well rounded of a brown.

Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, but is slightly thin for my tastes.

Not a bad brown. I could drink a couple of these, but it might get a bit boring after a while.

Thanks to seanpacheffeddfa or however you spell his name for the sample.
