22oz bottle acquired by my brother in a recent jaunt through Tennessee. 2015 vintage. Served in a Barrel and Barely teku.

Pours black with a finger and a half tan head. The froth fades to a scraggly crown, leaving only a few sparce specks of lace.

Smells of bourbon, oak, chocolate, soft vanilla and caramel. Pretty spot on for the style.

The flavor kicks off with semi hot bourbon that remains at the forefront throughout followed by vanilla tinged wet oak, dark chocolate, caramel, faint brown sugar, lightly charred wood and a slight nip of booze. Both imperial stout and barrel are on display and work very well. While this might not go in any surprising or unique direction the flavors are exactly what was expected fom the style/ label. Delicious and very easy to drink, particularly as it nears room temperature and loses most of its slight alcohol bite.

Creamy, medium full body with pillowy carbonation. Notes os bourbon and caramel drizzled fudge make the long finish quite pleasant.

I'd never heard of Blackstone Brewing before I was surprised by this bottle but Black Belle is a very well done barrel aged stout. There is a great balance of barrel characte and base chocolate stout. Very glad that I had a chance to try this and should I ever encounter it in the wild I would not hesitate in picking up a couple more.

22 oz shared bottle.
Pours essentially black with a modest head.
Mildly boozy and moderately strong aroma followed by a better, stronger flavor that more clearly reflects the bourbon barrel aging although it is less boozy.
Very smooth, especially considering the ABV.

Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery "Black Belle Imperial Stout"
on tap @ The Hop Stop, Nashville, TN on 8 April 2015

Notes: Opaque brown-black body beneath a one-finger thick head of frothy-then-creamy darkish-tan head. Cocoa and caramel come on strong in the nose, and it appears to be a bit of a rich dessert beer. Darker fudge and swirls of Bourbon round it out. Smooth across the palate with a full body and moderate, very-fine bubbled carbonation - perfect as a dessert beer or evening sipper. The flavor comes on a bit stronger, delivering the Bourbon more directly, but still backed by sweetish malt. It's sweet, nutty, gently roasty, cocoa-ish, gently caramelish (with golden and medium dark caramel, but no very dark, "almost-burnt sugar"), and lightly topped with a soft note of vanilla. It's almost like a chocolate donut in its maltiness, and if the Bourbon and a touch of spiciness from the alcohol not there it might be too much. Again, it would still work as a great dessert beer, and the balance is there, but simply sitting at the bar it's truly more of a sipper or a beer that you relax with than a pint you'd grab with friends. Impressive. Just a touch more woodiness would have helped to dry it ever so slightly.

Black belle

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter. No visible bottle date.

A: Pitch black with one finger dense mocha head that settles quickly and leaves some slight lacing.

S: Bourbon, cherry, vanilla, and dark chocolate.

T: Sweet bourbon and rich chocolate fudge. Subtle cherry and vanilla notes.

M: Full bodied and well carbonated for a BA stout. Finish is a touch hot.

O: Very nice BA stout although a bit pricy. My favorite of the Blackstone beers that I have tried.

Bottle is about 3 years old at this point. 22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours pitch black with small foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring

S- lots of bourbon aroma up front, mixes with dark fruit and cocoa nibs, caramel, vanilla, spicy oak, classic BBA stout aroma

T- lots of bourbon flavor up front with plenty of barrel character, followed by dark fruit notes of raisin & fig, caramel and coconut flavor from barrel.

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a slightly boozy finish

O- bourbon forward stout that is a nice sipper

Overall this beer comes off as very underrated. Smooth bourbon and hot chocolate on the nose. Creamy feel to the body with dark chocolate and caramel. So easy to drink for a big bourbon aged stout. Bourbon could play a bit moe in the flavor. Solid overall.
