Reviewing from notes taken on 2/23...

A- Has a nice hazy bright orange pour with a half finger head that dies instantly. Fairly still, but vibrant color.

S- Centennial bomb is what this smells like, and I'm not complaining. Nice citrus tones with banana, pineapple, and grass. Has a sweet caramel malt presence.

T/M- This is a big boy. The bite on the finish is intense and approaching harsh. Palate initially has an orange/grapefruit pop that moves towards grass clippings and flowers. 80IBU is very evident, I would even guess higher if it wasn't known. The body holds up the bitterness and hop flavors well, being moderately full.

O- Probably the second best Blackstone beer (behind their coffee stout) and the hoppiest beer ever brewed in the state of TN. I can't think of anything from any brewery that compares to this. We need more!

Clear orange with a billowing and persistent off white head. Minimal lacing.

Pleasant aromas of pine, citrus, and caramel.

The bittering hops are a bit much. If they were dialed back just a bit and let some of aromas shine through in the flavor this would be a really solid beer. It's astringent and boozy for 7.2%. Pine and citrus do come through but are drowned out by a palate bruising and soapy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is medium and full. Carbonation is as it should be.

It's a decent ipa that starts with a really nice aroma. It's just a little too bitter.

A- pours a dark and hazy amber-orange with a small creamy white head that reduces to a small layer on top

S- orange and grapefruit citrus hops with a sharp peppery spice, caramel and bready sweet malt

T- citrus hops are there but more floral hop nose come out in the flavor, good amout of caramel malt sweetness to balance out the hops, the finish is slightly sweet with more floral hops on the finish

M- medium-heavy body with low carbonation, foamy mouthfeel leads to a chewy-yet-smooth finish, definitely doesn't drink like the over 7% is consists of

O- big hop flavors but enough malt to balance it out evenly, very easy drinking for the ABV, floral notes are nice.

Poured from bottle into pint glass.

A: Golden amber. Thick white head that showed good retention. Nice lacing as well.

S: Tropical citrus aroma.

T: Nice malt/hop balance. Fairly bitter with a lingering soapy numbness.

M: Medium thickness. Very nice.

O: A very solid IPA. I would definitely imbibe in one again if given the chance.

A newer offering from Blackstone sampled at the brewpub. Not a gigantic double IPA, but enough hops horsepower to qualify for the category. Some malt sweetness, quickly giving way to an initially brusk hops wave that sorts itself out a bit toward the end. A touch of alcohol at the finish lends some white pepper.

bottle poured into tulip shaped glass

Appearance: Golden amber with a thick white head.

Smell: Strong hop presence; piney and citrusy, with a nice tropical fruity presence.

Taste: This is a well balanced beer. I can taste the hop presence and the sweetness from the malt and fruits. This lands more on the sweeter maltier side, but don't get me wrong you can still taste the earthy hops. It has a very rich taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a sweet dry finish.

Overall: This is a highly underrated beer. My favorite brew from Blackstone; Perfect for those who are new to the IPA Style. It's not to bitter nor aggressive. Overall It's more on the sweeter side, but you can definitely taste a hop presence.
