Really good at 7%, very smooth and drinkable... Nice hoppiness and a rather heavy malt bill for an IPA, which I like.... Sweet and balanced. I would really like to rank this higher, just stands out as a great session beer, but lacks that (proverbia)l 'GREAT FLAVOR' that other beers (think Two Hearted or Stone IPA) that kick your palate. A friend brought me this... Would love to visit Ellicottville Brewing Company~

Not your prototypical IPA. Generally I like the brewery but not in this instance. In my estimation this is a foul ball. The smell and initial taste remind me of the dundees IPA. The beer is just average but below average IPA.
I also disagree with labeling. Don't catch the piney hops. Has a malty start and alcohol type finish in mg estimation.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Copper-colored with a one-finger head
S: Malt, citrus and caramel but not bold or distinctive
T: The notes match the nose. Tasty but plain
M: Medium-bodied and crisp
O: No flaws but nothing unique; an average IPA

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Had a few yesterday, Flavor is the same today.
Very dark Orange, Almost looks like an amber Ale. Cream Colored head which remained over the top of the beer the entire pint.
Smells very heavily of malt and for an IPA it does not have any citrus or Hop smell to it at all.
Tastes very malty. There is a hint of Hop, but nothing like I would expect from an IPA.
Leaves a malty, bitter aftertaste with each sip.
I had never heard of this before I picked up a six pack, but I will not be trying it again unless I stumble upon it on draft cheap.

This beer was not what I was expecting at all when I bought it. It has a suprisingly dark copper color and has suprisingly little hop aroma. Based on the description on the bottle, I expected a light straw colored beer and a sharp piney hop aroma.
Although the beer was very different from expectation, it was also very pleasing for what it delivered. The beer has a very appealing taste and a nice creamy mouthfeel. For what aroma is present there is a mild scent of sweetness.
For those fellow hop heads, this is a bit of a divergence from the norm, but a nice tasty change of pace.

Pours a copper amber color with perfect clarity and a stream of bubble from the bottom. Fat tan head of foam and decent lace to look at. If you didn't know, IPA's can be this dark.
Nose is earthy grapefruit. The pith and the rind with the promise of tartness to follow. Light brown sugar malt that could be heavier but isn't. Floral hops and an earthy pine that combines with a subtle mint. LOVELY! Nutty and a light caramel. 100% unique on the nose . Woody and with a floral that keeps getting bigger as the beer warms.
Taste is really nice. Moderate earthy grapefruit but with all the juiciness this time. Tart and not too strong. The grapefruit rind. A nutty sweet caramel that is smooth ans has no heaviness in ti. It's almost perplexing. The mint and the herbal come together with the subtle pine expertly and make a woody taste that is not the usual fare.
The mouthfeel is smooth and mellow with a lot more malt than you expected. It's fruity and nutty. There is light bread but not as much as the color might suggest. There is a bit of pepper in the dry finish and this is a terrific beer from elicottville that has an identity all it's own and is not like all the other IPA's out there.

A: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Body is coppery/orangey-amber with a small khaki-colored head that leaves nice rings of lace.
S: Brown sugar, caramel malt and some piney, grassy hop bitterness.
T: Pretty much follows the nose, with a malty foundation of brown sugar and caramel malt, which is followed by green hops: pine, grass and even a minty or floral taste at times. A bit of woody earthiness lingers on the palate after a surprisingly bitter finish.
M: Medium in heft, decently creamy in feel.
O: Different. Reminds me at times of Smuttynose Durrty (a strong Brown ale) or even Stone Arrogant Bastard (an American Strong Ale) more than your typical IPA. As something different, I like.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep amber color with a one finger head of billowy white foam. The head fades very fast leaving some foamy rings on the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a grapefruit hop smell mixed with a rather decent showing of some pine hop and a little bit of a grassy hop smell. Some light fruit aromas of orange and tangerine as well as a little bit of a bready smell and some slightly sour lemon aromas.
Taste – The taste begins very bready and somewhat sweet with a decent amount of caramel and toffee sugary tastes. Upfront there is some grapefruit hop flavor which starts weak and gets a bit stronger more toward the middle of the taste. Along with the grapefruit increasing the sugary tastes fade ever so slightly, but are replaced with some lighter tropical flavors of tangerine and pineapple. As the taste advances some resinous pine and some earthy and woody flavors work their way onto the scene. The fruit that developed in the middle, later end up fading toward the end, leaving a somewhat resinous and decently hopped bitter but thick bready flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is slightly lower. The thick and chewy body in combination with the lower carbonation really accentuate the hop and bready flavors nicely, really allowing the dank and resinous flavors to shine through the sweeter flavor of the brew.
Overall – A fairly nice and decently hop blended IPA. While nothing super out of the ordinary, a good one to try if you get a chance.
