Had on nitro tap at John Harvard's at Holiday Valley.Came in a standard pint glass a deep cola color with a cascading creamy light beige head atop.Aromas of chocolate and tart cherries with a little coffee roast.A great mix of chocolate and sweet and mildly tart cherries on the palate, the nitro creamy feel just bumps it up another notch.Easily the best beer I have had from EVL.

purchased a growler of this at abbott road consumers, poured off of a regular tap (brewery suggests nitro). brought to a friends house and split up into standard pint glasses within ten minutes of the fill.

pours out pretty much opaque black with a very creamy light mocha colored head, two fingers that faded to a retentive 1/4 inch creamy layer and then a thick ring towards the end of the glass. light webby lace at the begining of the glass.

the aroma is mainly creamy chocolate and cherrys. disappointing in that there is almost no roasted malt or other RIS qualities.

again with the creamy milk chocolate and cherries. very light roasted malt. chocolate and cherry flavors are pretty spot on, maybe a touch artifical, but seems to lack other RIS qualities once again. slight bitterness in the finish.

medium bodied, a little watery, nothing like RIS. very creamy, but if youve ever had this on nitro, its way better. doesnt seem watery, and the creaminess is so much more enhanced. the mouthfeel is what made this beer for me on nitro, now its whats killing it.

drinks super easy for 8%, one growler would prolly be an easy kill if i was drinking it myself.

overall: this was my second review ever, some 360 reviews ago. i had it at the brewery on nitro, and it really kind of blew my mind. so needless to say i was really excited when i heard this was on tap at consumers, but i was sadly a little disappointed when i had my first few sips. again, nitro makes this beer, highly recommended on nitro, not so much off of a regular tap.

I got this as a growler from Consumer's in West Amherst. It pours a very dark color with little to no head.
The aroma is dominated by chocolate, cherry, and a little bit of dark malt.
The flavor starts with sweet chocolate with hints of cherry. It starts very sweet but there is an intense bitterness in the background to balance the beer. I think the bitterness must come from hops and possibly black patent malt.
There is an alcohol warmth but it is blended nicely into the overall character of the beer. The mouthfeel is creamy with only a gentle carbonation.
This is a tasty, almost dessert like beer. Its well made and accomplishes what I think was set out to be made. I would love to try this one on nitro tap.

On-tap at Cole's. Regular tap, although brewer recommends this at nitro. Dark brown body with brown head. Big cherry extaract aromas. The cherr is not rea cherry taste at all, from someone who drinks organic cherry juice daily. The chocolate is syrup pured in. Thinnish, fairly weak for an imperial stout.

Poured an inky black at the EBC in Ellicottville with a nitro fine cocoa-colored head. Aroma of chocolate, with the cherry a close second. Malt and roast barley aromas barely made an appearance. Flavor was consistent with the aroma, kinda like "drinking cake." The chocolate and cherry flavors seemed rather one-dimensional, suggesting they were flavor extracts, not the result of dumping loads of "the real thing" into the fermenter.

Overall not a bad brew, well balanced for what it is, but not one that has me ordering a refill.

Hands down one of the best beers at this brewery. Served on a nitro tap, this brew is creamy, chocolatey and delicious. Not really a Russian Imperial Stout IMO.. a lot more like Young's Double chocolate stout. Beautiful nitro appearance- frothy light brown head with lots of accumulating nitro bubbles underneat. Aroma of rich milk chocolate. Cherries come out very subtly in the taste as just a slight cherry fruitiness. Milk chocolate flavor dominates the beer. Served at the absolute perfect temperature. Really like a refreshing chocolate milk.

Spigot @ Coles.

A: Dark black in color, super frothy head and the most superb lacing in the world.

S: Mostly chocolate and malt.

T: Its a chocolate milkshake, little cherry action noticed at all. Easily can be fooled as a Young's double chocolate, which in this circumstance was the name on the tap when poured. The bartender assured me wrong, and the review reflects this tasting. Smooth and everlasting on the palate.

M: Creamy, smooth, moderately carbonated, ABV is nonexistent.

D: If I wasn't so paranoid I was drinking a Young's I've probably would have had another... in now way a session beer by any means, but its a great tasting brew that represents.

Wow, what a great idea for an Imperial Stout, and done to near-perfection to boot.

Appearance - Opaque black with hints of golden amber when you tilt the glass up to the light. It pours a one finger tan head that disappears almost instantly--but with what's to come, who cares?

Aroma - milk chocolate and cherries...like on Christmas when you get that box under the tree you've been waiting all year long for.

Taste - the same. Something really, really special. Of course, if you're a pale ale kinda guy, you'll hate it. But since I'm a pale-ale-and-a-whole-lot-of-other-stuff kinda guy, I love the uniqueness of this beer.

Mouthfeel - creamy, and surprisingly medium-bodied for what could have been a syrupy mess. It goes down light and flavorful.

Drinkability - again, this type of offering would typically be a one-or-two only kind of beer, but I could see pounding a whole growler without a hint of cloying hesitance... :) Great job, guys!

Bought at Clark's Ale House 12/29/09

The beer pours a pitch black color with a 1/2" tan head that quickly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a stiff chocolate smell up front with a mild cherry aroma as well. It's a bit sweet with not much black malt earthiness. The taste is decent as well. It has a big chocolate flavor up front. It almost seems too chocolatey. It's overly sweet with not enough patent malt balance. The cherry character is subdued and is mild at best. The whole beer is really way too over the top. The mouthfeel is average. It is a full bodied beer with too little carbonation. This is a potentially really good beer. It needs more CO2 right away. It was borderline flat at the time I sampled it and I just purchased it an hour prior.

Had this in Ellicottville on St Patty's Day on tap. I must say that this was definitely the best tasting imperial I have ever tasted, albeit not everyone will love it because it is definitely more of a dessert/sweet beer than anything but it was absolutely decadent. I actually convinced my wife (who never would even taste a stout) to try one and she ended up ordering a 2nd....

A- Black as can be- 1 finger tan head, thick like whip cream that lasted and lasted...looks nice but cant give it a 5 because it looked like flat beer with a whip cream head due to the nitro- but that added to the smoothness and mouthfeel

S-The absolute best smelling brew i have ever smelled. Smells like a chocolate covered dark cherry candy heavy on the chocolate and surprisingly for an imp stout I couldn't smell that normal alcohol bite that is norm for the style.

T- It almost doesn't taste like beer- So only for that reason I at first didn't give it a 5--I have since changed it to 5 because I truly feel that this beers taste couldn't be made any better. It almost tastes like liquid desert...same as the smell like dark chocolate melted over cherries--- not super sweet like syrup, but more of fresh cherries with dark chocolate..excellent blend with the hops to not be overly bitter but they definitely tried to balance out the sweetness...

M- Was nitro'd - Smooth as silk- couldn't be improved.

D- I would drink this brew till I dropped. 1 of the absolute best beers I have ever had.. I honestly usually don't like much of EBCs stuff but on this one they hit a home run. A+++

I only wish they would start making this on a regular basis and maybe even try bottling it- I hope that they continue to make this one it is by far the best brew Ive ever had by EBC...
