On-tap at Cole's. Regular tap, although brewer recommends this at nitro. Dark brown body with brown head. Big cherry extaract aromas. The cherr is not rea cherry taste at all, from someone who drinks organic cherry juice daily. The chocolate is syrup pured in. Thinnish, fairly weak for an imperial stout.

Had on nitro tap at John Harvard's at Holiday Valley.Came in a standard pint glass a deep cola color with a cascading creamy light beige head atop.Aromas of chocolate and tart cherries with a little coffee roast.A great mix of chocolate and sweet and mildly tart cherries on the palate, the nitro creamy feel just bumps it up another notch.Easily the best beer I have had from EVL.

Bought at Clark's Ale House 12/29/09

The beer pours a pitch black color with a 1/2" tan head that quickly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a stiff chocolate smell up front with a mild cherry aroma as well. It's a bit sweet with not much black malt earthiness. The taste is decent as well. It has a big chocolate flavor up front. It almost seems too chocolatey. It's overly sweet with not enough patent malt balance. The cherry character is subdued and is mild at best. The whole beer is really way too over the top. The mouthfeel is average. It is a full bodied beer with too little carbonation. This is a potentially really good beer. It needs more CO2 right away. It was borderline flat at the time I sampled it and I just purchased it an hour prior.

On tap at Coles in Buffalo. A chocolate cherry imperial stout can be a beautiful thing, and part of me hoped that they'd make this a Belgian inspired interpretation.

Beautiful black pour with a good tan head from the nitro tap that has good lace and retention (as you'd expect). Also (as expected) the nitro does a number on the aroma, and reduces this to a more or less one-dimensional milk chocolate. There's some vanilla and roast in there too, but you really have to strain for any cherry notes. Flavour is passable, but not great. Its all milk chocolate, and tastes overly sweet and artificial. The roast is present, but should be far more prominent in an imperial stout. Cherry is ghost-like and there's not much going on. Body is standard nitro, and I can't but help that this would be far better on regular tap. Why nitro is popular I do not know, but I blame Guinness.

I think there's some pretty big homerism going on with this one. Going into reviewing this beer scores a 4.37, but isn't anywhere near touching the hem of the Founders Imperial I had a couple drinks before. Where's the perspective?

The beer pours black with a loose halo of tan head. The nose presents a slightly metallic cherry and milk chocolate. The taste brings on a milk stout lactose sweetness followed by distinct cherries that linger. The mouthfeel is a bit sweet, velvety smooth on nitro, and the core flavors are present and pungent. This is a pretty decent stout that lives up to its name as being a chocolate cherry stout.

purchased a growler of this at abbott road consumers, poured off of a regular tap (brewery suggests nitro). brought to a friends house and split up into standard pint glasses within ten minutes of the fill.

pours out pretty much opaque black with a very creamy light mocha colored head, two fingers that faded to a retentive 1/4 inch creamy layer and then a thick ring towards the end of the glass. light webby lace at the begining of the glass.

the aroma is mainly creamy chocolate and cherrys. disappointing in that there is almost no roasted malt or other RIS qualities.

again with the creamy milk chocolate and cherries. very light roasted malt. chocolate and cherry flavors are pretty spot on, maybe a touch artifical, but seems to lack other RIS qualities once again. slight bitterness in the finish.

medium bodied, a little watery, nothing like RIS. very creamy, but if youve ever had this on nitro, its way better. doesnt seem watery, and the creaminess is so much more enhanced. the mouthfeel is what made this beer for me on nitro, now its whats killing it.

drinks super easy for 8%, one growler would prolly be an easy kill if i was drinking it myself.

overall: this was my second review ever, some 360 reviews ago. i had it at the brewery on nitro, and it really kind of blew my mind. so needless to say i was really excited when i heard this was on tap at consumers, but i was sadly a little disappointed when i had my first few sips. again, nitro makes this beer, highly recommended on nitro, not so much off of a regular tap.

I'm having one of these at John Harvard's at Holiday Valley and its a great day for a great day for a real great stout. The brew is black and creamy. The aims is just slightly fruity. The taste is similarly well balanced.

there is an amazing after taste of cherries. Everything is well balanced. It stinks very nicely and it would be easy to do a couple. Highly recommended.

Presented a pitch black brew with a good inch and a half light tan nitro head
Smell is cherries and milk chocolate and nothing else
Taste followed the nose heavy on the cherries and milk chocolate this was like drinking a hot fudge sundae cherry on top included
Mouthfeel med to full bodied and the nitro creaminess definitely lent itself well to this
Drinkability this would be the perfect 8oz dessert beer but its overly sweet to have any more than that it just became very cloying
