This is Ellicottville's lowest rated beer? Impossible! It is my personal favorite. If you don't like fruit beer then don't bother but if you want something different it is a must.

Get it on tap at one of their locations and they through in FRESH BLUEBERRIES into your drink! It makes for a nice addition. (305 characters)

Get this on tap at the bar...they put blueberries in it! Makes it look exceptional. The smell and taste are nearly perfect. Nice real genuine blueberry taste and aroma. Nice wheaty backbone. Not too malty. I wish this was distributed over a much larger area. I think it could soar. (281 characters)

Pours a light golden color with a nice white head that is about one finger. The smell is a blueberries, it isn't over the top blueberry though. There is also some wheat in there. The taste is of blueberries over a nice malt taste. The mouthfeel is of moderate carbonation. Overall this is a very drinkable beer, crisp and refreshing, you could have a number of these. (367 characters)

Appearance- It is a nice straw yellow color. There are a lot of bubbles in the body and that forms a lot of head and lace.

Smell- You can smell the berries right away. It has little complex fruity smell past the initial berry blast as well.

Taste- There is more to this beer than the berries. You can still taste the malt and some very mild hops.

Mouthfeel- I a lot of fizz bite but for the most part light.

Drinkability- Very refreshing and easy to drink. (463 characters)

Ellicottville Blueberry Wheat Ale

Aroma: Light bright crackery aroma up front. Light bread crust notes with low berry character. Fermentation character is clean and dry.

Appearance: Pale yellow slightly hazy pour with a low bright white head.

Flavor: Pleasant mix of blueberries with some crusty bread –like notes. It reminds me of taking a bite of blueberry pie! There is an underlying earthy bitterness to balance out the fruit and malt character. Finish is clean and dry. There is a slight sourdough aftertaste that is pleasant and adds depth of character.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with high carbonation. A slight carbonic bite is noted. There is no alcohol heat or astringency detected.

Overall impression: A refreshing, clean fruit beer. There is enough base beer character to enjoy it with light fruit accents that keep things unique and interesting. Well done! (894 characters)

A- Bright yellow color, clear, half finger thick head that faded to a thin ring around the glass

S- Strong auroma of blueberries, light malts, hint of citrus hops

T- Fresh blueberries, grains, wheat, sugar, hint of other berries near the end

M- Light/medium body, medium carbonation, crisp, fruity, sweet

D- Worth buying again

This ranks near the top end of the blueberry beers that I've tried over the years, although not a lot of complexity. (448 characters)

I picked a six of these up when our ski bus stopped at a grocery store in Ellicottville. This was a great refreshing beer after a hard day of skiing and several stronger beers earlier in the day. It is a pretty subtle, well balanced taste that I think is mostly designed for easy drinking. The fruit taste is subtle, but so are the hops, malt and yeast tastes,so it works.

The appearance is that of a flat, light beer. A pale yellow.

But even though I usually prefer bolder tastes, this one gets a thumbs up for what it is. I think they met their goals admirably (564 characters)

A- its in a bottle, i'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

S- Clean, crisp, lots of depth to the blueberry scent

T- Considerably more blueberry than others that I have tried. The wheat base was well done with a light acidity.

M- Lots of carbonation, thin body. Works for the style.

D- The carbonation is the only thing stopping this beer from being completely chuggable. (376 characters)

Pours a clean pale yellow color with a small white head. In the aroma, fresh blueberries all day. In the taste, fresh dry blueberries, almost like a blueberry muffin. A small bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a note of dry blueberry skin in the aftertaste. Fresh blueberries and not sugary at all. Quite nice. (327 characters)

Pours a clear, golden color with a lot of carbonation. A medium white head thins out very quickly, however the lacing throughout the drink is very good.
Smell has a slight bit of wheat, but an awesome amount of blueberry. The strong smell of blueberry smells so genuine and fresh that you would think you are actually smelling a bushel of blueberries. (Do blueberries come in bushels?)
Taste is good for a blueberry beer. There is a lot of blueberry taste and not much else on that. However, the blueberries do taste very authentic, like they use real blueberries.
Mouthfeel is really good for a blueberry beer. This is obviously a summer choice, so the fact that the beer has a very light feel and a crisp, refreshing bite makes the mouthfeel perfect for the season.
Drinkability is good. The genuine blueberry taste is strong at first, however it balances out with the wheat fairly nicely as you continue to drink. A great selection for a hot summer day on a patio in upstate New York! (987 characters)

Appearance - Very light colored beer. Somewhat hazy with a very full white 1/2 inch head. Nice lacing.

Smell - First thing that strikes you is the strong fruity smell of blueberry. Then the malt and the hops aroma blends in well.

Taste - Very balanced with nice malt, citrusy hops and a very refreshing blueberry flavor - not artificial at all.

Mouthfeel - Light and refreshing to the pallet.

Overall this is a great summer sippin on the deck beer. At EBC, they serve with fresh blueberries in the beer, so we have taken to doing this at our home as well. This is really, the only fruit beer that I enjoy.

Went home to visit my parents the other weekend and brought this back a growler of this for the girlfriend (although i enjoy it too). We go to the brewery pretty much every time we are there and really enjoy their beers. I bought one of the fancy growlers with a pewter handle and swing top to get filled whenever I'm home.

Poured from a growler into my Portsmouth snifter. Pours a light, pale gold color with a thin white film on top of the beer. One interesting note on presentation is that they put fresh blueberries in the glass when ordered at the bar, and they put a handful of them in the growler. It's a nice touch and makes it seem fresher.

The aroma is very good, I really think the handful of fresh blueberries sitting in the growler for a week really comes through in the smell. It smells a lot more like fresh blueberries then I expected. I don't get blueberry extract nearly as much from this beer fresh with the blueberries then I do from a bottle.

The taste is pretty much all blueberry, but it really does taste like fresh blueberries more then an extract flavor I get from a lot of fruit flavored beers.

The mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is good, it's a light refreshing pretty good tasting drink. Having this on tap and from a bottle I can say I definitely prefer the tap version a lot more. Maybe it's a mental thing but the fresh blueberries floating in my beer really make it smell and taste a lot fresher and more of natural blueberries. As simple as it sounds the presentation with the fresh blueberries really helps this beer compared to the bottled version. I'd probably give the bottled version more like a B, B- score compared to the fresh version. One of the better fruit flavored beers I have had (1,759 characters)

Reviewed from notes as I drank this the night before Thanksgiving. Enjoyed a 12 oz bottle of this at La Cave Du Vin. Poured into a standard pint glass. This beer pours a clear medium golden color. Not much head or lacing from the start. Aromas of blueberry and some malt and a bit of grain present. The taste was pretty much the same, blueberry malt along with a bit of hops at the end. This beer was a fairly crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to high carbonation. Easy drinkin' here. Not something I'd drink all the time, but certainly worth a try.

Pours clear and golden with a thick foamy white head. Very carbonated.

I could smell the blueberry as soon as I opened the bottle.

Initially you get the blueberry taste - mild, not overpowering. Still some fruit flavor in the finish, but more of a pilsner-style taste.

Lots of carbonation makes this beer feel lighter in my mouth than other fruit beers. Get the 'bubble' sensation on the tip of my tongue and the rear of my mouth.

Easy to drink and would be nice on a hot summer day. I could have a couple of these per sitting. (543 characters)

A - A very clear hazy yellow very light beer looking. Head is fairly decent at a half an inch that turns to a nice lace ring.

S - Hmmm smells kind of artificial but very sweet. A few sniffs later I can actually detect a good malt bill and some hops.

T - Tart and kind of acidic but very balanced. I get light blueberry taste then some decent citrus hops followed by a light malt flavor.

M - Light and bubbly it's not bad.

Overall one of the better fruit beers I have drank with constant fruit flavors, hops, and a bubbly bit of carbonation. Not bad at all. (561 characters)

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly died down, leaving only a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Strong aromas of blueberries are present in the nose. The smell was so strong that I could pick up the blueberries as soon as the cap was removed off the bottle.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has lots of flavors of blueberries with hints of associated sweetness. Notes of wheat are noticeable in the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and has lots of nice aromas and flavors of blueberries that don't seem artificial – it's kind of like dipping into the blueberries at the bottom of a cup of yogurt before mixing them in. However, the strong dose of blueberries can make the taste seem a little one-dimensional.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden-yellow color with a two finger fluffy white head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a blueberry nature mixed with some grainy wheat aromas. The blueberry is quite potent, but not overly sweet and has a nice almost drier smell as there are only lighter notes of a more caramel and sugary sweetness.

Taste – The taste begins with a flavor of a light wheat and blueberry flavor. The nose is heavier then the taste however, with the flavors being relatively subdued in comparison to the smell. The blueberry gives way with the wheat growing slightly stronger as the taste moved on from the beginning to the end. All the while a lighter sugary sweet taste that is upfront fades to the end with a slight bit of acidic and light bitter flavor comes to the tongue at the end of the taste leaving a dry blueberry wheat taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very light and crisp with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Both are quite nice for the blueberry and wheat flavors of the brew and make for a refreshing style brew.

Overall – This would be a nice beer for a hot summer day as it is light, fruity and refreshing. Other then on a warm day in summer however this is one I would not go to on any great occasion as it is a little lacing in the flavor department. (1,487 characters)

Appearance: pours a clear golden yellow color with a short one finger head. Some mild lacing develops.

Smell: loads of blueberry with some softer wheat tones. Very pleasant for a fruit beer.

Taste: the blueberry flavor dominates here and drowns out any other flavors. Some soft grass and wheat tones are in the background and bitterness is very mild.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Crisp throughout with some dryness late. Aftertaste is focused on the blueberry flavors.

Drinkability: this beer is a bit unbalanced and more than one glass would be tough to handle in a session. (577 characters)

A: [4.50] Clear pale straw color. Very few bubbles in the glass. The head dissipated right away and left wisps of foam on the surface. The beer is 4.8% ABV and bottled on 11.03.14.

S: [3.25] I am not getting much blueberry on the nose. I get mostly wheat smells.

T: [3.50] The taste is really nice. A nice sweet wheat beer taste. Nice bready taste. then just a suggestion of blueberry. The blueberry is not dramatic or overpowering. Very subtle.

M: [3.75] The label says "Dry and Fruity" - I agree. Nice crisp dry finish. Nice carbonation level.

O: [3.50] This one has been rattling around for a while in the fridge. I have been passing it over for a while - but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a well made beer that doesn't try to over do it with the blueberry. This would be ideal out on a dock int he summer. (830 characters)

Served: In a bottle, poured into an ale glass.

A: Pours with minimal head and the body has a light tan color. Looks crisp.

S: Smells of blueberry and mild wheat, slightly malty.

T: Tastes like blueberries with a mild hop aftertaste.

M: Nothing too special about how it feels. Starts out with a blueberry flavor and leaves the mild wheat aftertaste in the end, but it's very enjoyable.

D: I've had other blueberry beers and this is favorable. Definitely beats out Wild Blue (especially since it doesn't pour a bluish color). I could kick back a couple of these. (565 characters)

Light straw/golden in color with a slight haze, this beer produces a very slight head of foam that fizzes into nothing in minutes. The nose on this beer is fruit/berry- like with a sweet wheat malt backing.

This beer offers a mild flavor of wheat and blueberries. The blueberry flavor is moderate and it does taste natural, which is good. The wheat malt backbone isn’t very strong, but it’s sufficient and it keeps the blueberries in check. There is little in the way of hop character, but this is expected for a style such as this.

I have to admit this is a very refreshing beer and it makes a good summertime drinking option. I would prefer a little more body and a little nicer appearance, but this beer is still good for what it is. It’s the type of beer that will go over well with the shandy crowd and others who like their beer to taste a little sweeter and more approachable. Some added blueberries would actually improve this beer but it’s still pretty good on its own. (988 characters)

12 oz bottle courtesy of Cuzco pours a slightly hazed, light yellow color with a small cap of white head. Not much for retention or lacing.

Nose is very sweet, and I am guessing here, artificial blueberry aroma. This has to have some sort of extract in it...I am not one to hate on artificial flavors, so in this case it smells good, though a little like Fruity Pebbles.

Taste is not as sweet as the nose would indicate, but tastes like what I imagine an "essence of blueberry" would be. The malts are light and barely even qualify as grainy...maybe a light wheat tang. Not bad, but is a fairly forgettable fruit wheat beer. (626 characters)

A: Slightly hazy golden color. A finger of white head with a touch of lacing.

S: A tight nose but a little bit of real blueberries. Slight touch of wheat. Nice when it doesn't smell like chemically processed fruit.

T: Kind of on the bland side. The blueberry comes out more in the finish than anything else.

M: Super light. Well carbonated.

D: Perfect summer beer. This beer was a nice surprise. Not terrible and would be great on a hot summer day. (452 characters)
