Apparently I am a bigger fan of this brew than the other reviewers. Poured from a 22oz bottle found at the local corner market in NW PDX. Nice color with about an inch of head. Heavy in both the malts and the hops, but nicely balanced between the two, which I think is probably a pretty hard feat in the brewing business. 7.0% ABV is just about right, so it's not as heavy as a barleywine, but the mouthfeel is definitely there. Overall very enjoyable. I will pick up a couple more pounders if I see it again.

Poured into 16oz Nonic from the Osama Bin Laden of beer formats, the 22oz bottle. Poured a clean and clear (with a slight bit of chill haze that cleared up nicely) copper-amber color with 1/2 inch of light tan head that had OK retention and lacing. A pretty good looking beer actually.

The aroma had a very light hop presence, mostly herby and floral, with a bit of citrus. There was also a lot of caramel malt scent, almost like some ambers. The taste was basically the same, just a bit better focused. The pine and floral aspects showed through a bit more, but the sticky caramel didn't complement the hops at all.

The body was pretty good, full, smooth and with a dry finish. Drinkability was OK, it wasn't a struggle to finish the bottle, but I wasn't left wanting more either. Overall, an average IPA. If they could reduce the caramel aspect and get some grain taste, bump up the hops a touch, I think they could have a very nice beer on their hands.

Point the Bone was enjoyed in a nonic pint glass.

Appearance- The beer pours on the darker side for an IPA, a little amber with some copper highlights. Appropriate darkness for a beer that used to only be available at Halloween.

The foam has an egg white look to it that rests about a half-finger deep. The sheet lace also coats the side of the glass.

Smell- Very strong malt scent that happens to be quite sweet! It is a little like honey and biscuits. There is some pine resin as well. The sweetness is what comes through the most.

Taste- The palate does an okay job of following the nose. There is an herbal tea flavor that was not noticed on the nose. The finish has a nice amount of that sweet, honey malt and just a little dash of pine bitterness.

Mouth feel- The feel is a bit on the average side. I like my IPA's a little more smooth as they go down and fuller bodied. Still a pretty easy drink, but not ideal.

Overall- This IPA has an appealing start on the nose, and turns a little on the palate with it's herbal qualities. I would have liked a stronger bite or maybe more complexity to the malt.
