Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: orangesol on 10-23-2013

Brewed with native Pennsylvania neck pumpkins harvested just a few miles from our brewery at Strites’ Orchard, Master of Pumpkins conjures the spirit of autumn by combining roasted pumpkins and traditional pie spices with a French saison yeast. This natural fermentation releases a palate of vanilla, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, and honey. In addition to 750mL bottles, Master of Pumpkins is also currently available on draft and for take-out growler fills in the Tasting Room. Taste it you will see. More is all you need!

A - Voluminous three plus fingers worth of crisp slightly airy light khaki colored froth comprised of medium and large sized bubbles... Audibly fizzy... Excellent retention... The color is darker than expected in teeters on the fine line between dark amber and light caramel brown... A limited bit of slightly sluggish to moderate paced carbonation... A very nice looking Pumpkin Ale... A moderate bit of lacing clings to the sides of the glass....

S - The gourd presence is at the forefront, but it takes on a fairly timid presence... It's more reminiscent of butternut squash rather than pumpkin puree... A strong malt base comprised of rich dark breads... The spice component is fairly subtle... Cinnamon... Nutmeg... A hint of ginger... Very pleasant and slightly unique for the style...

T - The spice is dialed up a notch or two or three but stops just short of becoming overpowering... All spice... Clove... Nutmeg... Cinnamon... Ginger.. Some light graham cracker crust notes... The pumpkin / gourd is mostly missing on the palate...

M - Medium bodied... Sturdy... Spry carbonation... A touch of dryness throughout...

D Not nearly as bad a beer as some reviews would lead you to believe, but a rather unremarkable pumpkin ale none the less... Very nice appearance and aroma give way to average at flavor and mouthfeel... The overall result is a slightly spicy, somewhat unique pumpkin ale... Enjoyable enough, but not something I would recommend nor seek out again...

Pours into a chalice a highly carbonated burnt orange with a very thin head atop.Mild yeasty phenols and some barnyard in there as well, very light roasted pumpkin but it's there.A sharp somewhat fizzy feel in the mouth that I don't particularly care for.Highly spiced on the palate between the yeasty phenols and pie spice, big nutmeg and clove...alot of nutmeg.I should have looked at the reviews before buying, disappointing.

Pours clear, orange-brown with 1/4 inch head. Taste is cinnamon, clove, earth, and alcohol. This is a big beer that seems to be average for an imperial pumpkin. Not a bad beer, but I prefer others with more depth.

Had tonight at Walrus + Carpenter on draft, into a tulip glass. Pours a clear copper/rust color with a small head that fades fast, minimal lacing. Quick blast of spice and sweetness on the nose, very mild, notes of clove. Taste is initial malt sweetness which is knocked out by a big wave of spice, too much. I get hints of vanilla and clove. Seems spiced wrong for a pumpkin beer. Medium bodied and gets a little difficult to drink at the end.

I hate to say it but troegs blew it with this one- I normally like them and thought I'd give this a try but In the end down the drain it goes.

Color is rather pretty however; clear Amber mahogany with minimal head lace retention.

Smell and taste are extremely spice heavy- particularly a lot of clove but pretty much everything you'd expect like nutmeg and cinnamon. A little pumpkin but the spices are pretty brutal. There is some saison yeast but it's hidden.

Mouthfeel is fine- medium body, well carbonated. Don't get this beer- I rarely say that. If you love clove cigarettes this may be your jam however.
