This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Brewed with decadent dark Belgian chocolate and an abundance of tart raspberry purée, Scratch #128 is an enticing Stout brimming with optimism. Each passing sip reveals its enduring charm and infinite merriment. The addition of Westmalle yeast (a Trappist yeast strain) enhances the flavor and texture of the ale, giving it an authentic Belgian flair. Since chocolate and raspberry complement each other so impeccably, Scratch #128 is sure to put you in a right jovial mood!

Served on-tap at the brewery.

A - Pours pitch black with a nice one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving spotty streaks of lace down the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of bakers chocolate, coffee, dulled raspberry tartness, toffee, marshmallow and dark roasted malt. Just needs a bit more of the raspberry to come through.

T - Starts off with the strong bakers chocolate and dark roasted malt component that never really fades away. Hints of toffee, caramel, marshmallow and finally the tart raspberries round things out. Finish is roasty with some tartness from the raspberries, lingering long after the finish.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Big, roasty feel growing kind of watery as it sits in the glass.

O - Better than the last one, which isn't saying much. Love that they removed the chalky feel but the raspberry is nearly non existent in the nose. Nice to try but one and done.

A-Sampled at EBF. Pours a very dark brown.

S-I love raspberries but was unsure as to how I would enjoy this beer as I haven't been very enamored with any Belgian stouts. The nose didn't wow me really. Bitter chocolate, Belgian yeast, roast and a hint of raspberries.

T-Thef labor was a different story. The raspberry really pops. It also goes really well with the chocolate flavor. The best part was that it even worked really well with the Belgian yeast. I felt that the raspberry softened the conflict between the stout flavors and the Belgian yeast. It worked.

M-Medium bodied. High carbonation. I enjoyed that it wasn't very thick.

O/D-I had to try it but was expecting not to like it very much. I ended up really enjoying it.
