Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Relic Brewing Co. imperial pint glass.
A: Very dark, mahogany color with reddish highlights that show in the light beneath a thin, one-finger head of tan foam which disappears quickly and leaves some weak, sticky lacing.
S: A bit fruity with some musty grains, lactose, light, herbal coffee grounds and a stale, oatmeal cookie aroma.
T: Sweet and grainy up front, with some caramel and roasted black malt to support the mild, herbal hop bitterness. Some floral esters combine with the bittersweet chocolate flavor before it washes down with coffee-like bitterness and a little creaminess to part ways with the bitter hop resins.
M: Medium-bodied and well-carbonated, this porter has a little creaminess to the feel before becoming bitter and a bit thin near the finish.
O: A pretty good American Porter and drinkable at 5.4% ABV. The malts are a little weak up front but finish pretty strong with an herbal, bittersweet coffee finish. It's not a rich, robust porter, but it's a decent session porter with some bitter roastiness in the finish to keep things interesting.
