Philly Beer Week is upon us once again, and to commemorate the occasion our brewers have developed a hefty Double IPA as cumbersome as the legendary symbol that embodies the week-long celebration – the Hammer of Glory! Scratch #145 was soaked in some of our favorite American hops before being dry-hopped with two classic citrus-forward varieties (Amarillo and Cascade) to overload the senses with orange and grapefruit. The result is a massive hop bomb teetering on the fringes of 9% ABV that’s sure to provide one with the stamina to wield the coveted Hammer of Glory.

On-tap 1/31/2016 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains citrus, caramelized malts and earthy hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then an earthy hops bitterness comes in but it’s a bit subdued. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid 2IPA to drink for a while.

Supremely smooth with a great blend of bitter pine and sweet malt. Not too heavy but a solid feel that goes down easy.

Clear dark gold/light amber color. Decent head that leaves blotchy spots for lace.
This smells of pine resin and grated grapefruit peel. Touch of alcohol.
Starts with a surprisingly strong pale malt taste. This actually lasts through the aftertaste. Well balanced, especially for a DIPA. Very smooth mouthfeel with a bit of alcohol warmth. The hop component is straight bitterness but in a muted way. Superior.
