Brimming with optimism, Jovial reveals its enduring charm and infinite merriment with each passing sip. This enticing Belgian-style Dubbel ale features hints of raisin, fig, date and prune. As the flavor develops, traces of toffee, chocolate, and subtle spices emerge.

375 ml caged and corked bottle poured into a chalice.

Pouring clear and chestnut brown with a two finger tan head. The foam is fairly persistent but too slick to leave much lace. The strong nose opens with port-like and dried fruit aromas. A less robust milky candi sugar aroma takes over after the head settles. Starting mildly sweet, the dark fruit and dark sugar flavors dry quickly for a tangy finish. I’m getting just a hint of woody bitterness. Belgian yeast phenols add character to both the nose and flavor. Medium-weight and smooth it feels more frothy than creamy and is moderately carbonated, just enough for a weak crisp bite. Sweet and rich, but subtle with enough balancing dryness to drink easily.

L- Pours dark nut brown into a stemmed glass heavy head and lacing
S- Yeasty with neutral hops aromas and biscuity malt aromas
T- Medium bitter with mild noble hop flavors some toffee and fruit flavors
F- High carbonation and medium- light body
O- Not a great dubble. I was dissapointed by the bottle and beer presentation.

8/25/23, at the brewery again.

Poured from the bottle, beautiful deep copper in color. Light tan head and foam dissipated quickly with minimal lacing.

Aromas came through as described by the brewer: fig, caramel, toffee, and cedar wood. Definitely spicy.

High carbonation hits the mouth immediately. Flavors of caramel, toasted malts, and sweet bread. Also, surprisingly, a flavor of canned mandarin oranges came through.

Jovial pours a dark, murky brown with a smallish, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark, earthy spices and prunes. The flavor isn't as sweet for the style; lots of stone fruits, especially prunes, and dark earthy spices. Good body and feel. Overall, a darker dubbel with lots of fruit flavors.

Pours a clear dark brown with a minimal tan head. Not nutty, more chocolate, malt, smooth taste and feel. Ver well balanced. Hops smooth out the malt sweetness. Drinkable all day, everyday.

So good, it goes down right from the bottle. Sometimes the cork likes to fight you when removing it. One of my favorites. Impressive when lined up in a row with the corks and crowns x aligned.

Pretty good considering it’s 8+ years old. Cannot find exact date on bottle. Found in the back of my cellar. Upon removing cork, still a high level of carbonation. Taste and smell aren’t horrible, but slightly dated probably from oxidation. Mostly caramel and toffee in the nose and taste. A nice surprise considering this was only a 7% ABV that sat around for a bit. Glad I cracked open to try instead of tossing in the trash. One more left in the cellar. Will see what another year or two brings for this offering.

No, guys. No offense, I'm an huge Troegenator fan from back in the original days, there was nothing like the nuttiness of Trogenator on draught, and the, general, goodness, of the inexpensive bottled double bock. You know, I hear, from my Bud loving, very old 80+ years now uncle, that my Grandfather loved the darker, German, I'm guessing, Bock, beers? i was way too young to know that ... so, this beer? Sorry, guys, it's average (at best), I get NO notes of toffee, chocolate, molasses, bad advertising. Look, I've had this beer before. best thrown in to my mix a seven for $1.50 , and that's what it's worth, very average. Troegs, you're better that this, make the long, lost Flying Mouflan, again. Best part of this beer? the cork and cage, I actually always hated corks, but kinda, miss them. Seriously, guys, stop it. This is no Dubbel.

This review is for what it is - an American example of a dubbel. Ruddy color, amazing meringue-like head with 1+ inch. Mild to medium nose - yeasty/estery. Mild to medium taste and body. Roasted malt with pronounced esters, dried fruit and plums. Creamy sparkling taste from CO2. Well-balanced.

This is my second Jovial, first time I just gave it a rating and I pretty much stand by my original. Comes in a champagne corked bottle bought it directly at the Troegs brewery. Lots of heady carbonation gives rise to a good creamy mouthfeel and full mouth of beer. Good yeast smell and flavor. Overall a good fancy beer for special occasions. If you have any anti IPA characters in your crowd they should like this beer.

Pours a deep ruby red with a fluffy long lasting off-white head. The aroma is malt, then dark fruits. The taste is dark fruits and toffee and caramel. It is medium bodied and overall I would suggest this to anyone who likes a good dubbel. Troegs, you have done it again!
