Pours a clear light gold into a tulip glass

A: Clear and light gold. No chill haze

S: Wheat, fruit, slight banana, slight clove

T: Wheat hits you first followed by a subtle fruitiness

M: Light bodied and refreshing. Very clean

O: A good example of an American Wheat. Clean, refreshing and light. The wheat flavor dominates with subtle hints of banana and clove. I will buy again.

This is an excellent American wheat beer that embodies many of the characteristics of a German or European style wheat. It has the wheat grain backbone but is complimented by fruity hints of banana. Cloves are present as well. This combination is typical for European wheat beer and unlike German wheat bottles you get the full 12 oz serving and not the 11.2 oz(330ml) the imports give you.

Color - Light amber

Carbonation - Strong with 3 fingers of white head.

Smell - European wheat smell, wheat and some fruity hints.

Taste \ mouth - great taste with light mouth feel.

A- Hazy yellow color with a good amount of head from the carbonation.

S- Smells like a wheat beer. Bready, malty, maybe a little banana and clove in there as well.

T- Bready malts up front. Love that taste. Minimal hop presence, great doughy presence. Nice dry finish that makes you crave the next sip.

M- Slightly thick or heavy, definitely carbonated.

O- Overall I thought this was a solid beer. I am a big wheat beer fan and allgash white is my go-to for the style and I would compare it to a slightly not-as-good version of that. A nice treat for me since we can't get it in CT. Would make a great summer day beer!

Two 12 oz bottles poured into a weizen glass.

A: Pours a hazy golden color. The head is a two finger white shade; a bit thinner looking than what I like out of my hefeweizens, but with nice retention. Not much lacing here.

S: This is heavy in banana esters. Huge whiffs of bubblegum and sweet vanilla hit my nose, as well as some general 'wheat' malts. I'm fairly impressed by the aroma here.

T: Initially, it starts off with fruity, with loads of banana and faint orange. Afterwards come notes of vanilla, wheat, and clove...it's quite vanilla forward, actually. A bit of hop bitterness builds up as more is consumed, suggesting decent layering/depth.

M: Soft and creamy at first, before developing into a dry, astringent feel. This also seems to bring out some hop flavors on the back end, as well. Carbonation is strong if not oppressive, and the drinkability is excellent thanks to the moderately light texture.

O: A great hefeweizen is worth its weight in ambergris, and this is certainly a great example of the style. This seems to have more complexity than others in the style, also - including the 1000 pound (and 1000 year old) gorilla-in-the-room from Weihenstephaner.

12 oz bottle from Trader's Joe. Pours deep golden with long lasting white head, a lot of lacing and carbonation. Aroma is of wheat malt, banana and yeast. Body is medium and crisp. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is medium, somewhat sour. Good thirst quencher.

A pretty solid American take on a hefeweizen, but doesn't approach German examples. Nice wheaty bite, good amount of banana and clove, but kind of a thin mouthfeel, doesn't have the fullness and creaminess of some of the best examples, unfortunately. Not one of Troegs' best beers, but still nice regardless.

The Hefeweizens I enjoy pack themselves with a corainder, orange, and wheat flavor that is filled with an unfiltered body.

This lacked both, but still did a decent job. Lacked depth for me in flavor and fell off the tongue too quickly, but was still very drinkable.

I would suggest the German alternatives to this.

Appearance: Golden color, hazy clarity. Head is diminishing with average lacing.

Aroma: Sweet fruit, wheat, floral

Feel: crisp-smooth, light carbination, light-medium body, finish is quick-average.

Notes: Fruit, wheat flavours. cantalope?, faint orange, other faint fruit flavors.
But fruit is not overkill (i'm not a big fan of fruity beers)
Taste while exhale = excellent. Very refreshing.
One of the best wheat beers i've had.

Pours a golden brown with a decent amount of carbonation. Lively beer with carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass. Some lacing is present. Smell is typical wheat beer with a good dose of citrus - more lemon and orange. Taste is consistent with the smell - but the citrus comes through a bit on the sweet side. Would be a good brew for a hot summer day.

12 oz bottle into tulip. bottled on: 12.18.12. batch # 1203.

A: a pretty hazed orange body. head is bright white and bubbly. retention is reasonable, big spots of frothy head left behind.

S: plenty of esters. lots of pepper. aroma has a very prevalent banana smell. a pretty singular banana aroma as far as fruity department is concerned.

T: vanilla undertones. black peppercorns. a little bit of bubblegum. plenty of chewy wheat. finish is grainy with even more wheat. almost cloying and sticky.

M: the carb is more on the frothy side than the spritely side. chewy and pleasant. light body.

D: a pretty tasty hefe. good summer-time beer for sure, but if you are just in the mood for some very fruity, easy drinking beer, pick some up.

A: Pretty and hazy light straw hue with a frothy white half-inch head that settled quickly.

S: Such an interesting experience! Strong sweet floral scent - almost like honeysuckle or jasmine. Entertained myself for awhile trying to figure out the aroma.

T: The floral aroma hung on through the taste, eventually giving way to clear banana with a slightly sour undertone. The light floral showed up again at the finish. Complex and interesting all the way through.

M: A light, refreshing carbonated mouthfeel. I want this one around for summer.

O: I haven't been much impressed by wheat beers to this point - but now I have one that I love.

more than just a wheat beer. this is a saisony brew, funky and fun, drinkable and challenging, a lot of conflicting story lines here. the pour is more clear than cloudy, but with a slight fog to it, golden and pale, with about an inc of white head. the smell is funky yeast, a bit of citrus too. the flavor is lightly toasted wheat malt and lemon zest, but i am missing the characteristic hefeweizen yeast with clove and banana. instead i taste something a little more wild and untame, peppery and grassy, polleny but tart. love the aftertaste, farmy for the genre, dry but mouthwatering. great carbonation on a squarely medium body, i have no complaints about this beer. its a wheat beer that lives on past the summer, and one i really enjoyed from the anthology mixed 12er. havent had a troegs brew i didnt like yet.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall white head that slowly reduces to an extremely thin ring at the edges of the glass. No lacing is observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of wheat, banana, and clove.

T: Light to moderate flavors of wheat with some lighter notes of peppery yeast, banana, and clove. Fairly typical flavors for the style.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy to drink and refreshing, definitely a decent session beer. Like the spiciness in addition to the traditional Hefeweizen flavors.

A: Aggressive pour with a swirl yields 1/2 finger of rocky white head with poor retention. Hazy straw-gold liquid. More head with better retention please.
S: Bright citrus with slight clove phenolics. Clean and bready. Quite pleasant.
T: Clean and bready with slight hop bitterness in the finish. Some orange and maybe lime citrus. Very drinkable. Seems like a wit almost, and good as one, but an even better hefeweizen! Nice level of clove. No off flavors.
M: Bright and full flavored.
O: A quite decent hefeweizen that I'd love a second of. I'd buy 6 for a hot summer day. I'll have again.

12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. Yeast agitated and poured.

A: Pours a cloudy, tawny golden-brown. Two fingers of creamy off-white head settle shortly into a quarter-inch crown. Lacing is patchy.

S: Green bananas, strong hit of clove, bready wheat, a touch nutty.

T: Green banana closely followed by a smattering of spices. Strong clove presence. Perhaps some cinnamon and brown sugar. Banana bread with walnuts. Spicy, yeasty finish with bready wheat notes.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied. Fluffy and creamy.Moderate prickling carbonation.

O: Not the prettiest looking hefeweizen- head formation and retention leave a bit to be desired. It's damn tasty though. Enjoy it with banana bread, or better yet- bake a banana bread with it. I just got the crazy notion to try it in a black and tan with Young's Double Chocolate stout on nitro.

I had a bottle of this recently - a golden light hazed color with thick cream -basic look of hefeweizen or pale wheat with good retention. The smell is faintly spicy with some light fruity banana esters with subtle toasted, but mostly yeast oriented aroma which is pretty fragrant and pleasant. The Feel is good a bit sharp with carbonation and spice without a smooth feel - I guess more of an American take perhaps it has some hops to give a more aggressive texture. Mild body with easy to quaff dry finish.

The flavor is good with mild body and wheat aspects. The flavor is slightly fruity with some wheat yeast character but gentle taste overall and practically no alcohol with mild clove-like tinge and pepper in the finish with slight tangy yeast throughout. overall not a bad wheat beer, not a traditional hefeweizen really but it fits well enough and I like the way it tastes based on the change to open fermentation ala Sierra Nevada - it is worth trying.

This beer hits you with an unexpected taste upon first sip. If one is expecting a dark and powerful beer like so many supplied by Troegs' company, this is going to be a shock. Though it isnt very dark, it still retains a level of taste that can only be matched by a darker brew, though it keeps its character and what it is going for. I would recommend this to anyone who is not a fan of the traditional beer taste.

The beer pours a lovely golden straw color with a slight oranging that suggests dehydrated piss. The head was rocky and white but disappeared almost immediately in the torrent of rapid fire carbonation bubbles that peppered the surfaced. The carbonation did, however, eventually die out to a more reasonable level. My real complaint for the beer’s appearance, however, comes from the lack of head on this beer. I want more! The beer is almost properly hazy for the style, though I do tend to like my hefe’s a little murkier. The beer does smell properly banana-like with lovely undertones of orange citrus and heavy biscuity waftings dancing on the nose. The beer is a little thin, which is the first thing that comes to mind when it touched my tongue. The banana esters are definitely in the forefront playing with the biscuit malts, though a strange metallic taste does dance on the taste buds playing with some nice clove spice notes. Mouthfeel, as I said, is a bit thin and watery, though crisp and refreshing. I could knock back a few of these easily, which is lovely. Carbonation is only slightly effervescent, but really it’s very mellow and smooth on the tongue. Overall this is an above average hefeweizen. It’s nothing too special, but is definitely sessionable, and definitely tasty and worth a sip. Another great offering from the Tröegs Brothers!

Appearance: Very clear, golden straw color, crisp looking and highly effervescent. About an inch of sudsy head that quickly dissipates to almost nothing. The bottle claims it’s unfiltered but the beer has a very clean look to it. Looks more like a lager than a wheat beer.

Smell: Floral, banana, and honey scents come first, followed by cloves. Definitely has the characteristic smell of what I’d expect from a wheat beer.

Taste: This beer kind of hits you three different ways. I get citrus, coriander, and lemon right away up front followed by sweet banana-grainy malts and finally a nice dose of bitter hops at the end. A great beer for summer.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and light as it looks. Highly carbonated and goes down very smooth and easy. Easily a session beer although some may tire of the sweetness after a while.

Overall: A nice wheat beer, again very clean, light, and crisp tasting which is a good contrast from some of the cloudy, more overpowering wheat beers out there. Nothing too spectacular about this one but it’s a solid offering.

A- It's a clear golden yellow with a little head that practically disappears right after pouring.

S- A noble hop smell with some yeast tinge to it.

T- A very malty taste with a bit of alcohol in there.

M- Nice carbonation and a crisp clean finish. Really on the lighter side of things.

O- Pretty good wheat beer that is a fine clean brew. I would have it on a hot summer day anytime.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Slightly haze yellow with one-finger, white, foamy head that lasted a minute. Okay lacing.

S: Wheat and yeast. Clove and banana.

T: Light sweetness and light bitterness. Flavor matches the nose. Somewhat mild though.

M: Light bodied with soft carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

O: Pretty good Hefeweizen. I thought the nose was its best feature.

I poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a murkey gold color body with no head at all. The smell is of clove and banana with wheat popping through also. The taste is very dominant of clove and the wheat. This one has a nice mouth feel and over all a good hefeweizen.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: cloudy pale-orange hue with a light effervescence and nearly 3 fingers of pillowy ivory foam. Looks appetizing.

Smell: nice wheaty aroma with a touch of graininess. Big yeast character here demonstrating lots of clove and a whiff of banana. Quite good indeed.

Taste: flavor very closely reflects the character found in the aroma. Mostly clovey but with a refreshing hint of banana right at the end. Usually I'm a bigger fan of banana flavor in my hefeweizen than clove, but this one is pretty nice anyway.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a big level of creaminess. Good.

Overall: this is a very good and well-crafted hefeweizen, but I'm going to get a little personal here. I probably would not go out of my way for this one again, because like I said I prefer a banana-ey hef to a clovey hef. This is purely a personal preference, though.

Straight up bananas! When you bring it up to drink it hits you like a chiquita uppercut! Slight bubblegum flavor toward the end. The maltiness is medium to heavy with a slight sweetness. Good lacing so the ingredients were nice and fresh. No yeast flavor which should be apparent in wheats and hefs. Overall, not that bad of a brew
