Scratch #227 represents our interpretation of the classic Saison style. This once near-extinct ale was brewed in farmhouses during the winter months and stored until summer, when it was served to the seasonally working farmers. (Hint: “saison” translates to “season” in French.) Keeping with a French theme, we use a strain of French Saison yeast to enhance the mouthfeel, which lends a rich, silky texture and dry, champagne-like finish. The result is a mouthwatering Saison with a tangy citrus zing, sweet malt backbone, and contrasting peppery spiciness. À la voter!

I wonder if this bottle may have come to me from the previous reviewer, my local, in-person trader, tone77. The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody is daunting, but I am doing my best to see its eradication.
From the bottle: "Handcrafted by the Troegs Bros."; "It all started with a 6-gallon pot, a beat-to-crap stove and a burning desire. Today, we brew each Scratch Beer on our custom small-batch brewhouse with the same aspirations to endlessly ponder, sketch, brew, tweak, flip, sample, gather your feedback, and happily return to the drawing board."
Ha ha. I just noticed that the approved pic is another of mine, strengthening my earlier assumption as to its origin. I
Pop!ped the cap and really let fly. After all, the bottle was marked as "unfiltered" & "hazy". My pour raised two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with decent retention. Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7), so it was completely below the notice of the Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus, who prefer their gold to be of 24-carat clarity. Nose was less pungent than the earlier Grisette, more towards orange or tangerine than lemon, but still kinda funky. Mouthfeel was medium to full. The taste was (to me) a bit more palatable than on that Grisette. Here, it was less tangy and tart, still with a light funkiness, but not as overpowering. I stand with my assessment of orange or tangerine in terms of its taste and the yeast did not render it too tart for my taste. Finish was dry, but very tasty and eminently drinkable.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a hazy, golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is fruity, yeast. Taste is fruits, malts, yeast, some pepper, smooth and refreshing. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a tasty and enjoyable beer.

12oz bottle into a pint. The brew appears a clear pale yellow with a white cap. All through the solution is some fine particulate despite a careful pour.
The aroma has a little bit of cream corn character, then yeasty clove spice and subtle nondescript fruitiness. Taste is quite clove centric with mild pink bubblegum aspect, banana and cereal grains.
This is light in body with modest carbonation. For what it is, it isnt bad but if Troegs is gonna keep experimenting with the saison style I hope they throw this recipe in the garbage and start anew.

Look: It pours light amber with a white head.
Smell: There are fruity esters from aroma with a light malt backbone.
Taste: There area flavors from fruity esters, some malts, and some alcohol.
Feel: It has a moderate feel with moderate carbonation, and is moderately bitter in the finish.
Overall: It was decent, but the flavors did not pop as many saisons do.

On tap at Pies & Pints: Pours a honey gold with a faint cap of head that evaporates to a collar. Very yeasty aroma and flavor. Well balanced and satisfying.
