Re-review. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear copper color. There's a finger's worth of head, just barely off-white in shade. Retention is about average for the style. While the head is rather short, it leaves behind a respectable amount of lacing on the glass.

S: Nicely flowery from the Cascade hops. When I first pour it, it has more of a caramel malt note, but becomes hoppier with just a bit of time in the glass. I don't think the nose is particularly special; having said that, it gets the job done nicely. Like most pale ales, really.

T: Slightly fruitier than the nose indicated - and that's good! The Cascade hops not only bring some flowery notes, they also bring notes of grapefruit peel and lime. This one seems to have more fruitiness than other standard pale ales. Its malt backbone also does a good job of ballasting the hoppiness without being too sweet (amazing considering it's loaded with my 'favorite malt' - crystal). Just a nicely balanced yet drinkable pale ale, plain and simple.

M: The body is very crisp, with a nice bittersweet finish - it doesn't have the oppressive sweetness most crystal malt beers tend to have. It's definitely not bone dry, though. Carbonation might be a tad low, but otherwise the drinkability is quite good.

O: I've always overlooked this one in lieu of everything else Troegs makes - I mean, it's just a Cascade-hopped pale ale for cryin' out loud. How many of those exist on the shelves, after all? But, the way it shows off nice fruitiness (lime, primarily) with minimal bitterness puts it a cut above most other examples of the style. I'd have no trouble drink 2 or 3 of these in a sitting.
