Tröegs- Oatmeal Stout

Appearance- dark brown almost black with a thick sticky tan head. Lacing down the entire glass.
Smell- Like a fresh baked oatmeal cookie.
Taste- roasted cofee hops with oatmeal grain. Slight biter cocoa.
Mouthfeel- heavily carbonated at first but settling down mid way through.

Overall- A nice smelling and tasting Stout. Made me burp alot but otherwise this was good!!

sent to me as a novelty extra as i love older and retired beers, i was glad to see another one holding up well

completely opaque liquid coming forward in front of me. Rich dark brown notes, with a good sized head of maybe an inch in height coming over the top of it. Nice settling left behind a thin layer and a good amount of side glass lace.

The aroma was your typical oatmeal stout, though a touch more bitter then what I was expecting. Nice notes of lactose, chocolate and vinous hops. Some light grain notes as well in the finish. Rich, though not terribly filling. Lots of burnt and roasted malt flavors in here. Not as sweet as the aroma would have led me to believe it would have been, still though very solid in both bitterness and malt profile. little thin but no oxidation and i think it help up nicely.

Vintage bottle from 8/17/2006--let us see how this one is hlding up.

A-Deep brown/black with dark ruby highlights. A medium dark tan head reduces to a thin veil and leaves spotty lace.

S-Dark roasted malts with a healthy dose of chocolate and a touch of licorice and even a little smoke.

T-Rich and roasty with a ton of dark chocolate. Nice supporting grain feels almost palpable. A touch of spicy/earthy bitterness in the finish.

M-Medium bodied with a oh so smooth, velevty feel. This one lingers nice and long on the palate.

D-Still holding it's own after nearly three years! A really nicely done beer that for it's price point was quite a bargain. This is the kind of beer you should have on hand at all times! Now, if the Brother's would only bring it back!

Let's see how this one is doing. My last sixer is now one lighter. 12 ounce'er bottled on 8/17/06 and poured into my Ithaca shaker glass. The stout appears a translucent dark brown color with at least two fingers of dense ecru colored foam. The head settles to a half inch thick ring within a few minutes, leaving behind a thin lace on my glass as I sip my way to the bottom. Smells and tastes of sweet caramel, milk chocolate, medium roasted grain, toasty brown bread, more caramel, still a noticeable amount of bitter grassy hops. Dark chocolate, mocha, and sweet dates come forward as the stout warms. Mouthfeel is a tad thin for an oatmeal stout, but there is still an ample amount of carbonation. Overall, a very nice beer that needs to be brought back into rotation.
