Poured a dull golden color with a relatively thin head for the style and is gone quite quickly, toasted slightly sweet aromas dominate but there is a sharp grassy hoppiness that shows itself lightly as well.Pretty well rounded pilsner not as hoppy as the bottle might lead you to believe but there is a sharpness to it mainly in the finish, lightly sweet and grainy mainly up front. As easy drinking pilsner good for the summer months with enough hop presence to give it some dimension.

Appearance – This was a treat just to stare at. The light yellow body was very hazy and held up a huge, fluffy white pils head.

Smell – The delicate Saaz hops were right on target here, although the grain aroma was a bit too harsh for my tastes. There was a pleasant spiciness though that evened things out.

Taste – The German hop flavor is definitely here, but the American grain and overly sweet finish throw this one a bit off-style.

Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel was terrific. This pils is light and refreshing with just the right bitter bite at the end.

Drinkability – This was an excellent effort at the style and one of the better American-made Pils that I’ve sampled.

Comments – Thanks to Prostman for sending this one out my way.

A: a beautiful bright yellow with a great head
but without retention. Great appearance of
carbonation.

T: Grainy aromas with grass, malt, and alcohol
elements.

S: Very limited aroma of any sort. Faint hints
of meadow and malt

M/D: Clean and crisp brew with a good drinkable
body not too thin and without lingering
tastes.

If the beer that Budweiser/Miller/Coors made was quality beer that tasted good, Troegs Sunshine Pils is the beer they would want to style theirs after. In fact, for the rumored new line of imitation craft beer that Michelob is planning to roll out, they would be wise to take a hint from Troegs. Budweiser "Select" certainly could have used a clue.

If Troegs had an advertising budget, this beer could be HUGE. It has that mass-appeal quality to it, and it still tastes & looks good. A healthy pale color - not the washed out fizziness of BMC. Totally crisp & clean all the way through with very little aftertaste. Hops are present, unlike BMC, but not intrusive.

As for drinkability, you could sip these all afternoon (after mowing your lawn), and not feel full or bloated. This is the best pilsner I have ever had, behind Clipper City's "Small Craft Warning."

What a disappointment. But, maybe, not really - it is a summer seasonal. And these tend to be known for weak, light flavorings with some false scents and sense of beach.

Atrociously light bodied and a forced smooth drinking leaves me wanting to take no more sips. A pilsner even weaker by trying to pretend to have some honey sweetness. At 5.3 abv, this is not worth it. Avoid.

A - pours clear golden brown. Pretty light in color actually. Minimal head, but does leave a bit oflacing behind.

S - Faint aroma of biscuit malts, a but of grassiness. Slightly sweet malts come through as well.

T - rather hop-forward with a nice crisp bite of bitterness, some spice, and a lingering earthiness. Very nice. Also a bit if sweet malt to keep the bitterness in check. This is pretty refreshing.

M - medium mouthfeel. I little thicker than I would expect based on the color. Nice lingering earthy dry finish.

O -I really enjoyed this one. I would put Prima Pils a little higher, but I would definitely get this again.

Poured a thick mountain of white head which eventually settled into a nicely thick covering. Lightly scented, crisp and clean, slight citrus and hay. Incredibly smooth tasting with just enough of a bite to be noticable. Hint of raspberry in there -but not fruity, just a reminder in the background that kinda gets your attention. Light and refreshing, very drinkable. Nice!

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a Pilsener glass.

Appearance: Its body bright golden color with some cool sparkling carbonation. The head is small, about one finger thick, bright white in color and slowly fades down to a small slick ring of lace.

Smell: There is a full bouquet of mostly floral/spicy hops with light pale malt and just a slight hint of sulfur.

Taste/Mouth: The flavor is very crisp and clean with a solid medium body. Hop flavor is bright, floral, and clean with a pleasing level of bitterness. Just under the hops there is a modest level of crisp, dry, and pale white bready malt. The finish is quick, dry and fairly clean with some light hop bitterness. Its carbonation is quite active which gives it a lively and refreshing texture.

Notes: This is a great refreshing beer with excellent Pilsner Flavor.

This does look like bottled sunshine, very bright golden color. It's a very nice beer, a little on the citrusy side but well balanced overall. The Pils benefited greatly from a recipe change a while ago, my first tasting of it was not impressive. It now stands with the other excellent pilseners from south central PA.

This summer Pils pours an ultraclear, pale yellow body, with a white, two finger head that eventually drapes the glass with chains of attractive lacing.

Aroma is lemony citrus, with hint of grass, and a soft malt background.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, well carbonated, and clean and crisp.

The taste reveals that this one is no pretender. Solid noble hops presence with a dry, lemony, citrus character. Smooth malt presence provides only a hint of sweetness. Very crisp and refreshing, all the way down. No hint of Euroskunk in this one. Finish is clean, dry, and slightly bitter. Aftertaste has a hint of lemon rind.

Very well crafted summer brew. Goes down way too easy. Nice thirst quencher after a warm, sunny, day.

12 ounce bottle sampled, no freshness dating to be found. This summer brew pours light golden, clear, with a snow white head, tiny bubbles present and minor lacing left on the glass. The nose I pick up is of powdered sugar and perhaps a slight floral note. This is a pleasantly crisp and hoppy pils. Light and refreshing with a steady hop bitternes and bite late. Nicely crafted, more worthy brew from Troegs.

Thanks to fitzIPAtrick for this one...and to his sis who lugged a case back from her trip to PA.
Mowed the lawn today, so figured it was time to enjoy this one...pours the faintest shade of yellow (seriously, most likely the lightest beer I ever poured into a pint glass).
A full two and a half fingers of the brightest, fluffiest white head I have ever seen....leaves behind some sporadic lacing.
Bready yeast and pale malt...even a subtle clove scent.
The taste is real decent for the style...very clean and balanced. I would prefer to see just a bit more hops to give this one some more depth. Mouthfeel thin and the carbonation is great right where it is at...very fresh.
I like this one, but certainly I have better offerings in the style.

Appearance: high carbonation, 1/4 inch head, clear, light golden yellow

Smell: malt, hops, and grass

Taste: malt, wheat, grass, with a hoppy finish

Mouthfeel: smooth, sweet, light, high carbonation with a slightly bitter finish

Drinkability: This is perfectly refreshing summer beer. Between this and Oskar Blues, I am becoming more of a fan of this style. A little bitter as a pils, but it also does not taste like a run of the mill pilsner. I could easily session this.

Thanks to djrn2 for sending me this beer as an extra.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is earthy hops with pilsner malt. The flavor is pilsner malt as well as earthy and spicy hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. The beer is very drinkable.

12oz. bottle courtesy of PhantomVoDoo.

Color is a rather thin and dull-looking pale yellow. Thick and bright white head initally that quickly dies off to a paper-thin layer. Nice lacing of the glass, though. Aromas are an arrangement of flowers, freshly-cut grass, and some spicy zest. Sweetness peeks in around the edges. Flavor is brisk...like a good hopped-up pilsener should be. Bracing on the palate, there's a smidgen of malty sweetness to counteract the hoppy goodness in here. Finishes dry, with a residual bitterness that dries out your mouth. Good mouthfeel and immensely quaffable. This could be the new hot-as-hell in Richmond, summer thirst-quencher. Chalk up another winner in my book for Tröegs!

Best by July 2007. Pours with a thin head. Very clear in appearance; almost yellow. Tastes of crisp hops. Mouthfeel is extremely smooth & this is one of the most drinkable beers around. Perfect session beer. Under $30 per case to boot. This may be my favorite of the style.

Cheers.

Poured into a tall slender pils glass from a 12oz brown long neck bottle with a crimped on cap. Review number 300 I always end up with a Troegs on my big number reviews 100,200,250,don't know why,but I do love Troegs.

White, creamy, fluffy looking head, good retention, but not a real tall head.Lively looking beer nice strings of tiny bubbles tightly knit streaming to the surface, leaving lots of clumpy lacing down the glass.

Clean, pleasing and inviting aromas, spicy, herbal and earthy, smells like Hallertau hops love those good German aromas. Smelled even hoppier than last year from what I can remember.

Clean taste, like the aroma, very earthy, woody, spicy. Nice hop tang light on the malt, great hop flavors. Finishes with a clean, snappy hoppiness with some citrus rind feel.

Light mouthfeel with some coarseness from the hop feel. Very easy drinking. Great summer session beer with puckering hoppiness, but an airee feel, great hop taste. Could drink this one all of a summer day long and have done it before. I'd recommend trying this beer this summer.

Appearance: Crystal clear golden pale note with a bright white frothy head leaves big sporadic chunks of lacing behind with each sip. Aroma: Grassy hop presence with a zesty Saaz bite to it when you get down to it very citrusy in nature nice hops semi sweet pale malts barely peek through which is a good thing. Taste: Classic hoppy pils here starts out with the citrus, grassy, and pepper notes of the hops finishes softly and a bit dry with the pale biscuit malt sweetness. Perfect blend of flavors but the hops quench my hophead desires, good stuff. Mouthfeel: Lighter bodied brew with a nice fuller carbonation typical of the style, dead on this beer has character. Drinkability: Lawnmower beer all the way may just pick up a case when I get situated in my apartments this summer.

crystal clear...gold color....decent amount of carbonation bubbling up from the bottom of my glass...healthy white cap that dissipates pretty fast, looked good while it lasted

light bits of grain and citrus in the nose....some skunkyness but nothing off setting

exceptional pilsner taste....grainy with hints of wheat and citrus....refreshing and satisfying especially while watching a baseball game

light bodied...crisp with a hint of a hop bite

way too easy to drink...super refreshing on a summer day (or any day)...could easily finish a 6 pack without second guessing

Sunshine Pilsner along with Victory Prima Pils and Sly Fox Pikeland Pils are 3 staples in my fridge over the summer months...gotta love living so close to some great PA breweries

Forget some of what you read here: according to BA's own description, this one certainly fits the profile of a German Pilsener. In fact, I'm going to do something I've never done before and, using BA's style profile, go point by point in rating this. It seems necessary based upon the reviews I've read.

Classic German Pilsners are very light straw to golden in color: check.

Head should be dense and rich: check. A dense, rocky head leaves webby lacing on the glass as well.

They are also well-hopped, brewed using Noble hops such as (etc.): check. This is true both in the aroma and taste. A very strong, clean, pure hops shine through in this one.

These varieties exhibit a spicy herbal or floral aroma and flavor: check, though a great deal more floral and very minimal spice. Clean, earthy, herbal noble hops. Citrus and floral notes are strong.

Often times a bit coarse on the palate: now that's where it differs. This one's very smooth and crisp; I really didn't get any coarseness.

...and distribute a flash of citrus-like zest--hop bitterness can be high. Absolutely. This one hits hard with hops bitterness then gently lays down that strong hops bitterness in a smooth, lingering finish that leaves strong lemon citrus on the tongue as well.

Basically, when a beer is called "sunshine pils," this is exactly what ought to be expected: zesty citrus and earthy floral flavors with a strong hops back. Let's not forget that the label touts this beer as being hoppy. It is everything it claims. Just barely a step below Victory Prima, and a stellar example of its style. What are people expecting?

Review from notes.

A: Pours a light yellow color with a small white head that fades relatively quickly, leaving behind only the faintest bits of lacing.

S: Light hop aroma, slightly floral, but overall a bit plain. There are some grainy malt and some lager yeast.

T: A bit of hops up front, with some grass and a bit of lemon zest. This is followed up with grainy malt as well as a bit of bread.

M: Light to medium bodied, with medium carbonation. It is smooth, crisp, and refreshing. A nice lager for a hot day.

O: Drinks very easy, a good example of the style. Would be a nice beer to bring to introduce BMC drinkers to what else is out there.
