A: pours a nice light golden yellow into a duvil tulip with a half finger of white head that thins quickly.

S: crisp light sweet malt, nice bitter hops. Pine like and grassy.

T: malt base, crystal malts and crisp. A bit like sourdough bread. It leaves a pine resin flavor in the mouth and on the tongue.

MF: light and refreshing but full of flavor.

O: I love this seasonal pilsner, its full of flavor and has a good body.

Bottle was part of a Troegs Variety case.

Best if enjoyed by: August 11, 2011

Enjoyed in a DFH Pint Glass

A - Pours a translucent, sparkling golden color. A massive 2-3 fizzy head needed to fade a bit before I could add the remainder of the bottle. The head fades to nothing after a few minutes. Nice lacing on the side of the glass.

S - A rather bland smell. A slight sweetness.

T - The beer was very tasty. A nice crisp, hoppy bite finishes with a lemony aftertaste. The alcohol wasn't noticeable at all.

M - A very thin beer. Nicely carbonated.

O - A great summer-type beer. Very quaffable and refreshing. Easily sessionable. Another good beer from the Troegs Variety case.

Cheers!

Tap at prezo

Nice creamy fizzy 1+ finger head fades semi quickly over brilliantly clear light golden translucent and mostly no colored beer.

Nose has nice light pilsner malts, bit of straw and toasty wheat, light fruity lager yeast, and light fruity hops.

Taste starts with a nice toasty pilsner malt, straw, light lager yeast fruity flavors, crisp and clean, some light spicy and grassy as well as fruity hops, light bitterness, very drinkable. A mild sweetness fades quickly to a nice dry finish, very clean and crisp, light bitterness and mild spicy and grassy hop finish.

Mouth us a bit lighter bodied with decent carb.

Overall a great pils, nice malts, light and nice hop addition, crisp and clean, great summer beer.

a hard style that is troublesome for americans. With there is no distinction of this being a pilsner and a well filtered ale. Nose is a tad more lime than most. A grain earth... Palate a plateau. Grain and some hop. Its doesn't fall off dry. It doesn't have any malt complexity. The base notes are there but little interaction.

A: pours a clear golden color, small fizzy head that fades quick. Moderate lacing with each sip.

S: Smells like a pilsner; light malts, grassy, and a mild fresh hop scent.

T: Slightly bitter hop bite, somewhat lemony, grassy. It has a very fresh taste.

M/O: Very clean. Light body, lots of carbonation. The motto on the side of the bottle says it best, "crisp, hoppy pilsner". Pilsners aren't my favorite beers, but this one is definitely better than most. I need to pick up some prima pils soon and compare the two.

Very small white head on top of a golden blond beer that leaves little lacing from little retention. Smells include a small amount of hops and a grassy freshness.

Taste is marked mostly by a light hop hit on the front that builds to a hoppier bitterness in the back. Also some grassy notes in there. This makes for a crisp mouthfeel that refreshes as it goes down. There's a lightness to it that makes it really easy to drink, but not in a watery way.

Certainly above average for the style, but not one I'd probably go out of my way to find unless I was really into pilsners.

A- clear gold. Decent head that recedes with some lacing

S- citrus, a little skunky

T- citrus, pils malt, clean, crisp

M- thin, clean

O- not my favorite style of beer but would be refreshing after working on a hot day. Good summer brew

Bottled 05/02/2011. Wow - from the brewery to my hands in 5 days. Can't ask for much better.

A - Pours a brilliantly clear straw yellow. ~1.5 finger foamy white head which receded slowly to a thin film on top, leaving behind decent lacing.

S - Light pilsner malts with understated notes of lemon and citrusy hops.

T - Citrusy notes seem to lead the way with lemon being the dominant player. Nice and clean malty backbone with a little graininess. Well balanced and mildly bitter. Slightly dry finish with lemon lingering in the aftertaste.

M - Very clean and crisp. Light bodied with a fair amount of carbonation.

D - Very drinkable beer for the summer time. Low alcohol and not filling at all. Definitely a great choice for the warmer months.

Poured on tap at Meridian Pint DC into a shaker pint glass.

A simple white head that looks a little foamy is presented, sitting on a pale gold lemon/straw clear body. Simple carbonation from the bottom and not much lacing from the bottom. Looks like sunshine indeed.

A very unexpected nose but a good one. Melon, literally the first thing I felt was cantaloupe and some simple malted grain. Man evaluating a light beers nose is hard sometimes for me.

Taste is a simple crispness, with a faint but sharp hop spice. Once again there is that melon cantaloupe thing going on, and there is a slow but small faint baked bread on the finish. A little fizzy and carbonated.

This is pretty good for style, but I think I'd go for Prima Pils over this for it's Pennsylvania brother connection. However, if melon is your bag this is your summer melon beer right here.

Got this one in a recent trade as an extra for drgonzo3750. I just recently found out he is not a real doctor but he does play one on TV and no he is not dr Phil. However....

From a 12oz bottle poured into a snifter to celebrate my short vacation.

It came out golden yellow. Clear. Beautiful two finegr head. Looks like a pilsner.

Smells like a Pilsner as well lots of grains but more hope then I have in my usual pilsners.

Very clean and crisp flavors, same grains and pilsner malts, nice bitterness on the aftertaste.

It has a thin mouthfeel, is crisp with a good amount of carbonation.

It's everything a pilsner needs to be and more. Clean, crisp and very drinkable. This stuff you should buy by the case. Too bad I only had one bottle but it was worth drinking for sure. One of the best Pilsners I have ever had!

Thanks to the dr for sending this my way!

I bought a sixer of this while on a recent trip to Cleveland (can't get this in Chicagoland). Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a shaker pint glass.

A= This lager poured a brilliantly clear medium gold color with a thin white head. The head dropped fast to a thin ring but did leave some decent spots of lace for a lager beer.

S= Bready malt, light sulfur, and noble hops in the aroma.

T= Started off with a nicely bready and sweet malt base then moved on to a spicy noble hop bitterness. Not overly complex but delicate and tasty as it should be. Finished dry and refreshing.

MF= Lighter bodied with a prickly carbonation level that was maybe too high for some but perfect for me.

D= Quite a delicious and drinkable pilsner. I could easily kill a six pack of this on a hot day.

Poured a sunny, golden color from a 12 oz bottle, with freshness date on the bottle. One finger head that dissipates slowly. Good, solid carbonation. Aroma is typical of a pilsener.
Crisp, refreshing taste which is dominated by malts with faint bitterness in the finish. Excellent all round lacing on this pilsner.
A good pilsener from Troegs and has all the makings of a good sessions beer. Perfect for a nice hot sunny day.

S: Sour dough bread with some hints of hops and malt.

A - Pours perfectly clear golden yellow with a foamy white head which fades in a hurry

S - Aroma is bready, grassy, and fairly muted

T - The strong hop bitterness was surprising with this one. There is a little bit of a lemony bite to it as well as the grassiness noted in the aroma

M - Feel is light and crisp with a decent amount of carbonation

O - Average beer, got 3 this in a mixed 12, and that will be a good amount for me.

pours a bright yellow with a moderate stark white head, that fades eventually to film.
the nose is is mostly of herbal noble hops, there are also touches of lemon, and a slight graininess, maybe a faint bit of sulphur.
the grainy malttakes more of role in the mouth, followed up with a bit of that lemony citrus and a substantial bitterness. clean as hell and dry as a bone. just bit of a of a crackery quality adds some complexity. there is also a pleasant mineral character
a medium body with a moderate carbonation.
overall a very good, clean german style pilsener. i was wary of this one in the mixed 12, but it's troegs, i should have known it would be good.

Bottled on 3/23/11.

Pours as yellow as it gets, white head retains as a good cap and leaves a bit of lacing.

Grainy, herbal, lemony scent. Slightly better than your average macro I'd say.

Taste is surprisingly that of a pretty standard pilsner. Big beer-y cereal/grain/bready tastes up front. Light herbal and grassy hop flavor with a clean non-garbage finish.

Light and crisp mouthfeel as it should be. Good carbonation level without overpowering.

This could be snuck in with some of the better American macros without much differences noticed, surprised how un-hoppy this was coming from Troegs. It would make a good session beer, but I'd probably pick Prima Pils over this.

12oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

A: Crystal clear straw yellow with tiny bubbles of carbonation rushing to the top of the glass in a constant stream. Big rocky white head boasts great staying power and leaves behind plenty of sticky lacing.

S: Classic pilsner smell: crisp and clean with grassy and herbal Noble hops, hints of lemony citrus zest, and a grainy, doughy malt base.

T: Noble hops hit first with light herbal notes and citrus zest. Grassy Noble hop flavors are present too. Very clean and crisp. Doughy malt base turns grainy in the quick, dry finish. Very good.

M: Light and crisp with lively carbonation.

O: Great beer. Refreshing and spot-on for the style.

Notes: One of the best American-brewed pilsners. Very tasty and refreshing, damn near perfect. Great drinking in the warmer weather.

Poured into Pilsner glass with a healthy light white pilsner looking head.

Aroma of pilsner malt, healthy dosing of noble hops./

Taste of sweet pilsner malt, not too overbittered with Czech noble hops, and pleasantly sweet for the style. Really impressed with the clean flavors coming off of here without being overbittered or too sweet.

Overall a very well done German Pilsner from Troegs

Poured into a standard pint glass; nice transparent straw color with a white head that dissipates quickly.

Smell is pilsner malt with feint hop fruitiness.

Taste is smooth pilsner malt sweetness with just enough hop bitterness with a dry finish.

Mouthfeel is well done, very good crispness, nice body and just enough of a dry finish from the hop bitterness.

Overall, very well done great balance of malt sweetness, hop aroma and flavor and crisp mouthfeel.

Poured from the 12oz. bottle into a Allagash flute glass.

The color is completely clear yellowish gold with a finger and a half of foamy white with some nice thick lacing left on the glass.

The smell has some slight citrus aroma with a touch a malt smell as well. Some dough aroma makes me think of bread that has not risen yet.

The taste is crisp with a hop flavor but not a heavy bitterness as this beer has a good water flavor that washes off the tongue and keeps anything from staying in your palate for too long.

The feel of this beer is light but has a good feel like it might be bigger then you think but drinks like a lawn mower beer. Something you would have during the summer. It goes down easy and is really drinkable.

pours a light golden color with solid white head. head quickly disappears leaving a film on top. the smell is clean pale malt. taste is very clean, refreshing. very similar to an american wheat, but cleaner and with a hint of lemon. mouthfeel is light. I'm not a big pilsner fan, but this beer is just damn good and overcomes any ill feelings I have toward the style. Nice warm weather brew.

Pours a pale yellow color with a one finger white head that settles to a thin lace rather quickly. Nice clarity. Moderate head retention. All qualities that you'd expect with a good pilsner.

The aroma is mild, crisp, and clean. Nothing surprising here, but it's on par with the style.

More of the same with the taste. The hop/carbonation bite is more in the middle-end with this one (some pilsners pack their bite up front).

Thin crisp clean mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

This one gets a 4 overall because...well...I gave it a 4 in almost every category. A good pils for sure.

Morey's Bottom Line: I've always liked this beer, but I ever only buy a couple of singles each spring/summer. It's just not as good as Prima, Stoudt's or even Noble Pils. That being said, I enjoy drinking it when I do.

I dont understand where all the bad sentiment is from the previous reviews.
Troegs has captured a fine Pilsner representation with the Sunshine PIlsner offering.
True to form pilsner . Bright clear appearance, bubbly carbonation, nice lacing and medium head , typical of finer Pilsners.
A refreshing Hoppy presence, not very typical of most lesser pilsners and a creamy smooth mouthfeel. I could easily have a six on a hot summers afternoon or anytime for that matter.
The bold hoppy esthers are what must intimidate some people. If you like Nugget Nectar or any of the powerful Hoppy California beers, you'll definitely like this one.

I love German and Czech Pilsners, one of my favorite styles of beer. This one is way too bitter, minimal notice of flavoring in the noble hops and has a long lasting aftertaste of negative flavors. Also has some hints of barley and wheat flavorings similar to Adjuncts. In fact there are probably 10+ macro pilsner/lagers that I would rather drink than this offbalanced mess of a beer. Sorry to be so harsh to Troegs (which I really like some of their other options) but I need shoot straight from the hip and think they need to go back and rework there attempt at a Pilsner.

If you look over any other reviews I've done you'll see I really don;t like Pilsners. This brew falls into that same category. I really found this beer to be incredibly light on flavor and mouthfeel. The only flavor I got was the gross fresh cut grass flavor that I really can't stand. For me this beer is not good. If you're into these styles you'd more than likely enjoy this one as well.
