12oz. bottle courtesy of PhantomVoDoo.

Color is a rather thin and dull-looking pale yellow. Thick and bright white head initally that quickly dies off to a paper-thin layer. Nice lacing of the glass, though. Aromas are an arrangement of flowers, freshly-cut grass, and some spicy zest. Sweetness peeks in around the edges. Flavor is brisk...like a good hopped-up pilsener should be. Bracing on the palate, there's a smidgen of malty sweetness to counteract the hoppy goodness in here. Finishes dry, with a residual bitterness that dries out your mouth. Good mouthfeel and immensely quaffable. This could be the new hot-as-hell in Richmond, summer thirst-quencher. Chalk up another winner in my book for Tröegs!

Wow. That is a great surmation for this brew. Not usually a pilsner fan, but, I really enjoy this. Whether it be a nice summer time brew or a great lawnmower beer, this is a very nice package

Pours a nice lightly golden, fluffy head that dissaptes quickly, and slightly laces.

Nose is malty and graasy, pleasingly so.

The taste does a nice dance mixing and matching the matlyness and the hop presence. 1st is a bread-like malt, followed by some hops, with a nice matly follow-up and a slight, and plaesing malty finish. The carbonation is slight, but, enough to show that it adds to the over all presentation. A nice mix, refreshing, drinkable, and a solid brew all in all

Appearance: Pale, clear straw color with a small, white, tight head that quickly diminished to a thin film.

Smell: Mild citrusy & floral hops with honeysuckle and a hint of caramel. Light and fresh, but maybe a little too light.

Taste: Hoppy and pungent up front, then turning a little more bready and malty. The finish is dry and crisp, short-medium duration with lingering lemon.

Mouthfeel: Thin body, dry texture, lively effervescent carbonation.

Drinkability: Not bad at all. Decent balance, clean for a well-hopped pilsener but I’ve had better. Very drinkable and refreshing, but a little bit one-dimensional. Still worth a try, especially on these hot days.

This may not be the right time to rate this, after my writing down my impressions of St. Pauli Girl. But here goes. Pours very light straw color, with a nice foamy head. Chewy, grainy malt taste gives this much more oomph than any major beer in this style. I could not find the expected Saaz hop profile this needs, though. There are some ticklish hops down the back of my throat, but just not quite what I’d have thought to find.

Typical clear and light golden lager body. Rocky but low white head, lace and retention is ok. Moderate carbonation.
Not a whole lot of smell. Some hop notes and very faint licorice root.
Taste is similar to the taste just add some citric twag that just barely crosses the border into the land of astringency. Aftertaste is Hoppy and last for a moderate lenght. Ok balanced.
Thin and lean as a lager should be, not a repeat for me.

Pours from the 12oz bottle a light straw colour with a nice white head.

Smell is very floral and citric from generous hopping. Taste is clean and smooth with citric hop notes from start to finish. Light to medium on body, it is very well balanced with tangy malt. Finish is light, bitter, and very dry.

This is a very drinkable summer brew, one that I could have very many of. It's not quite as hoppy as Victory Prima Pils for instance, but is every bit as good.

very nice. definitely a top shelf pilsner
pours a light yellow straw color with a big 2 inch head thats creamy and sticks around leaving good lacing throughout.
smell was floral with hints of orange and bread dough.
taste was a very nice blend of citrus/floral hops and a nice background of carmely malts.
its smooth yet crisp and finishesd slightly dry. The hops do not overpower and its definitely not too sweet. it had this creamy mouth feel almost butterty like on the tongue that i really enojyed.
very very nice refreshing pilsner.

Pale gold, tending toward the piss side of the urine/apple juice spectrum. Big, soapy white head that lasts. Smells funky and sour, like sourdough bread. Taste is very balanced and crisp, with a lingering bitterness. Feels full and tingy. Good pilsner, reminds me of Lakefront's Klisch, but less sweet.

Thanks to JackTheRipper for this unexpected and greatly appreciated gift.

Aroma: Sourdough rolled in fresh hops. Hops are peppery and citric; malt is full, leading to a very balanced aroma.

Appearance: Clear gold, a few lazy bubbles rise into a trace cover and light collar of white. Left little spots of lace.

Flavor: Citric rinds, grapefruit, lemon, orange, but not overly bitter, juicy and fresh. Hops are supported but keep any malt flavors at bay.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium body with low carbonation

Overall Impression: Very tasty! Fruity, hoppy, refreshing. A great example of what a summertime beer can and should be. No flaws noted, all tart fruity goodness.

I have to disagree with the “German Pils” classification. I put this more into a Classic American Pils given the citric hops.

Thx to Pegasus for sharing the bottle

Appearance: Light golden yellow with good head retention.

Smell: The smell immediately made my mouth water in anticipation. It smelled of fresh pilsner malts and mild citric hops. The smell is reminded me of summer

Taste: A smooth, slightly hopped up pilsner, to be sure....but really nothing spectacular. Refreshing yet far from inspiring. The taste is of fresh malts that lead into a some fairly citric hops.

Drinkability: The bitterness does not balance well with the more refreshing aspects of this beer...therefore I don't know how many of these I would want to drink

12 oz. bottled on 4/18/05 - served chilled in a pilsner glass. Pours a yellow/gold color with moderate streams of carbonation and a 1 finger off-white head that doesn't leave much lacing. Lots of piney/citric hops in the aroma that are very inviting. The first sip is a rush of hops - pine, grapefruit, and floral hops flavors that are fairly bitter. To support the hops there are biscuity malts and a touch of diacety. This beer has a crisp, medium body and is overall a very nice lager with loads of hops. Another quality beer from Tröegs.

Appearence: Pours into my pilsener glass a wonderful, crystal clear light copper with a rich, creamy off-white head that leaves wonderful lacing.

Smell: The smell is really interesting for a pilsener. The malts are obviously pilsener malts, but the hops seem a bit different. They have an incredibly citric smell to them that's quite nice.

Taste and Mouthfeel: The taste is really unique for a pils, and that makes me happy. It tastes like your taking a bite out of an orange that was sundried, and then fresh flower pedals added on top, and the soaked in sweet, semi-dry malts. Sound bad? It's not. The mouthfeel is less crisp then I had hoped.

Drinkability and Overall: Other than the mouthfeel, this is a superb pilsener. Damn near as good (if not better) than most pilseners coming out of Germany. The citrus taste is odd, but a nice and welcome change that will keep you drinking all day. One of the more perfect summer beers.

Wow. This is good.

I had this on-tap last year and have since decided that the line was bad, because today this beer is fantastic and back then it was not. I really think the establishment was to blame.

This pils is a nice golden color with ample carbonation and a very light head of white. The smell is nicely sweet, with some wildflower and spice in the hop blend. The taste is really great. This has a really clean feeling and the malt lends a bit of doughy sweetness. The hops are done perfectly, with Saaz at the helm giving some pepper, quite a bit of lemon and orange, and a nice green taste I can only liken to fresh grass and honeysuckle. I'm floored by this. It's much more approachable than some of the super hopped pilsners out there and it walks the perfect line between sweet fruit and prickly hops. Troeg's continues to impress me. A midstate rival to PA's other favorite brewery? Perhaps....

Purchased on tap at Ale Mary's in Baltimore. Haven't had this on e in a while, but I know the rep that the Troegs folks have.

Appearance–Poured a bright golden with a big frothy white head. Had staying power and left a nice ring of lace.

Smell – The Saaz hops dominate. Spiciness and floral/citrus tones in the background.

Taste – Crisply hoppy with the citrus and floral tones mentioned in the smell. I has the base of the normal German pilsner, with just a bit of bitter lemon flavor on the finish. Just amazing on a hot day. This isn’t your normal German pilsner.

Mouthfeel – Full flavored drink that leaves your mouth refreshing and clean afterward.

Drinkability – Very so.

Very good pils. Pours with a nice straw gold color, small head, and some lacing throughout.

Very assertive hops. Malt character comes through though, but I would like more given the hops character. That impression may change upon my mood.

Smooth. Very refreshing and it seems perfect for summer. Which we aren't getting right this second.

12 ounce bottle sampled, no freshness dating to be found. This summer brew pours light golden, clear, with a snow white head, tiny bubbles present and minor lacing left on the glass. The nose I pick up is of powdered sugar and perhaps a slight floral note. This is a pleasantly crisp and hoppy pils. Light and refreshing with a steady hop bitternes and bite late. Nicely crafted, more worthy brew from Troegs.

Big dense off-white colored head leaves nice lacing as it slowly subsides. Transparent straw colored beer with streams of slowly rising bubbles feeding the head. Spicy hop aroma with a mildly sweet malt base. Light crisp, barely sweet grassy malt base up front. Floral and spicy hops kick in towards the end making for a nice mix of flavors. Just a pinch drier and this would be one of my go to beers.

Was lightly lemony citric fruity but bitter and grassy and moldy and herbal tasting. Grassy aroma, golden colour and bit of head. Sweetness, light bodied. Crisp and dry aftertaste. An above average beer, and I am ranking it to style. On tap at the Standard Tap.

Sunshine Pils....

Appearance-pours a radiant golden color with a huge three fingers of head that lingers with big bubbled carbonation, exceptional clarity on both the body and head of the beer, making it a pleasure to look at. Huge amounts of lace stick to the glass as well.

Smell-Saaz, tons of Saaz hop aroma, a little pilsner malt to balance it out but spicy hop aroma dominates the nose begging me to drink it.

Taste-light and crisp but with a flourish of Saaz hops, the hops dominate with malt desperately trying to balance but failing as the hops dominate all the way down.

Mouthfeel-hoppy and bitter, leaves a bitterness of hops on your toungue leaving you thirsty for more.

Drinkability-quite a nice pilsner, at only 5.3% you can have many and enjoy the sheer hoppiness of it.

Overall-a superb pilsner, as a person who likes hops I think this is among the best pilsners around and along with Victory's Prima Pils sets the standard for craft-brew German style pilsners, a shame this is only a seasonal. An absolute Saaz hop explosion. Pick this one up NOW.

BOTTLED ON 041805 (printed on glass below neck)
45 IBU's
Malts: Pilsner, Crystal
Hops: Saaz, Mitt. Hallertau
Yeast: Lager
Case purchased today at Westy's in Camp Hill, PA

Appearance - clear golden body; 3-finger thick white head to open with good retention; very good lacing

Smell - a smell of summer; grainy and a bit hoppy/metallic; great nose of a pilsener

Taste - big on grains; somewhat spicy; level of hops doesn't bowl me over but I wouldn't expect this from a pilsener; great grainy, hoppy, slightly lemony close; overall it's a nicely flavor-packed pilsener

Mouthfeel - zesty carbonation combos nicely with the flavor pop for an opener; medium moves to light; reasonably dry close

Drinkability - Sha-pow! Extremely quaffable

What an excellent summer brew. Vacation beacons; thus my ratings may be a bit skewed but if its leading to summer and the beer takes the mind there and its deemed by the tongue and palate as highly acceptable for sessioning in the heights of summer, I'd say Troegs' intention and resultant product are 'spot on'. A sixer of Sunshine Pils may last until the trip to OBX in 3 weeks.

Pours a pale yellow with tons of carbonation bubbles, but barely any head at all. The smell is fairly faint, but refreshing with a strong lemon scent and a hint of grassy hops. The taste of this one is superb, with well balanced bready malts being offset by the strong citrus hops. This has a medium mouthfeel and is very well carbonated, leaving a refreshing feeling after each drink. I only picked up one of these, but this will be on my list of summer once the weather gets warmer.

Flat clear golden yellow with a nice white head and lots of bubbles. Smell is a very clean malt with a good dose of citric hops. Quite lemony.

Taste is quite good. Sharp on the tongue with a just-right amount of carbonation, a little bit of lemony hop zing, and a malt sweetness. There's just a little too much lemon flavor in there, but other than that, I really like this one.

Finish is very crisp and lemony.

Seek this one out!

Got this one from a friend who got it straight off the bottling line at the brewery. Pours a pale yellow with a nice head and lots of carbonation. Smells of lemon and a flowery hop aroma. Lemon is the first taste you notice and very little hops bitterness. As the beer warms a nice spiciness starts to show through. Very light bodied beer that is a great summertime brew.

Golden yellow sunshine pour contains active carbonated tight suds rising up to a paper white dense well retained head cap.

Zesty lemony tea herbal scents with a background of honey suckle which welcomes a Spring season any day of the week. Bright hoppy front and a slightly malted balance.

First swigs: Clean delicately malted sweet balanced lemony front, mirroring the nose step for step. Some lingering lemony citrousy hints remind me that this is a summer time brew.

Light bodied brew with a touch of chalky grains. Quite easily quaffable, quality brew, despite being a bit one dimensional although not to a fault.

Last swigs: Lemon hard candy with easy drinkability. Not TROEGS best, but an easy dust cutter.
