Poured from a growler into an IPA glass
A: Pours chocolate brown with a red tint. Solid head with nice retention (at least in the IPA glass). Melts into a consistent thin foam that evenly covers the liquid throughout the course of the 20 min drink. Beautifully laces the side of the glass with every tilt.
S: Smells strongly of malt, dried figs and currants. Ethanol is detectable- more than I wish.
T: Tastes strongly of black figs and malt. Slightest hint of walnuts. Also great brightness at the beginning of the sip, acidic like, but not citrus- then quickly a bitter edge cuts in; Tannic almost - like the skins of pecans. Not off-putting though, - it really rounds out to a warm nutty flavor.
M: Medium bodied and moderately carbonated. I am a hop fiend, so for me I wish there was more going on in the mouthfeel - more stimulation upfront. But this beer shines more in the swallow.
O: Overall, certainly a fine double bock. Overall for the alcohol content, I wish there were stronger flavors going on. But a really nice beer and goes beautifully with food.

Pours a decent beige head that quickly fades to a thin remnant. Brew is a brilliant copper-caramel color, dark but very clear.
Tons of toffee and caramel in the aroma, plus dark fruits: figs and grapes.
Flavor follows the nose: sweet raisins and grapes, chewy bready malts, tons of caramel and brown sugar. A bit of rum raisin meets fruitcake.
Long, long sticky finish from a light but creamy body. Extremely easy drinking, with no hint of the high ABV, and little sting.
Very tasty dopplebock.

Undated bottle at 40 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma of malt
Head small (2 cm), light brown, fizzy, rapidly diminishing to 1 mm ring and broken layer
Body dark red-amber, clear
Flavor begins heavily sweet and lightly roasted malty, ends sweet, perhaps a hint of yeast esters; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate medium, creamy, soft carbonation
This is a very nice doppelbock, not cloyingly sweet and hiding the alcohol and hops well.
The fizzy head and no lacing detract from the appearance.
