a - dark, almost blood red pour with a quickly thinning head
s - mostly dried fruits, minimal alcohol, a touch of yeast and spice. Inviting at first but threatens to be cloying midway through.
t - Rich, sweet malt with a little fruit and a slightly bitter and tangy finish. Not much there if it was a 4-5% ABV but at 8% it's some noteworthy alcohol masking right up until the aftertaste clues you in.
m - Nice medium to full body. Just the right amount of carbonation and syrupy feel.
d - Pluses for its mouthfeel and masked ABV. That said I don't think I could do more than one or two servings without the sweet scent overwhelming me on each sip.
Is this a true dobbelbock? It almost feels like more of a barleywine. Seems to be missing the classic Troegs hops flavor I find in most of their lineup - not a bad thing given the style.
