An interesting take on the style from Troegs.
12 oz. bottle, poured into a tulip (because everything is better in a flower). A finger of yellow-ish cream colored head quickly diminishes to a small ring around the glass, and leaves little to no lacing. Dark, ruby-brown body.
The smell is banana bread first and foremost, followed by raisin and a bit of alcohol. Malt is a little underrepresented.
The taste is sweet, and while I wouldn't say it's cloying, it's definitely up there. Luckily, there's a little carbonation to keep things under control. The flavor is just like the smell, with maybe just a touch of chocolately malt. A bit of lingering sweetness and alcohol warmth, but an otherwise one-dimensional brew.
It's not bad, but Troegs has plenty of better options in its lineup. Troegenator is not my cup of tea (beer), nor is it quite right within the doppelbock style.
