Just got this beer as an extra in a trade and I love it. Don't have much experience with Double Bocks, but if they are as delicious as this one is I will need to change that

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a pokal style glass

It is a deep ruddy brown in color with ruby highlights. It is topped with two inches of tan head that leaves no lacing.

I get aromas of caramel, toast, and molasses.

Obviously, it is sweet and malty. There are flavors of caramel, cherry, and wood.

It is leaning towards full bodied and smooth.

This is a solid American example of the style. I bought it to pair with goat burgers, and it was amazing.

This is a classic, good value, readily available beer. My tastes lean towards the hoppy, but when I swing the other way, this one satisfies.

New at rating beers. Have no real expertise other than this brew reminds me of West Berlin Bock from the 70's.

Maybe I just had a bad bottle, but this made me physically ill to the point that I could not finish the bottle and actually didn't touch another doppelbock for another 6 months; had some good doppelbock since then, but certainly can't bring myself to drink another Troegenator, even if it was just a fluke

Troegenator coats the mouth with the thick flavor of dark fruits (plum, prune) and bread dough. There is a faint herbal quality from the hops and a lingering honey note. It pours a ruby hue with a khaki head.

Boozy Sam Adams Boston Lager: Nothing to see here...(Does have an almost a bourbon-barrel type taste / finish.) Color is amber, nothing special in terms of head or lace. Was hoping for more: Certainly doesn't compare to something in this style from say Spaten.

A - Dark brown, clear, with a light white head, mild lacing.

S - Malty goodness, caramel and baked leavened bread.

T - Follows the nose, with a nice doughy quality, caramel and brown sugar, a touch of molasses, and a subtly bitter close.

M - Drinkable and easy going, with enough carbonation and related acidity to scrub any cloying sweetness away.

O - A very nice, delicious, and tightly crafted Doppelbock. I'd grab a six pack of this one.

Pours very dark reddish color that is clear when held up to light with a foamy 1-2 finger tan head that faded slowly and left minimal spotty lacing.

Smells of caramel, toffee, brown sugar and sweet malt up front, followed by dark fruit, more sugar, wheat bread and light floral hops or tea leaf. Pretty much malty with hints of booze and fruity candy. Not too exciting, but not bad by any means it’s just devoid of any notes that make it anything but just sweet.

Tastes of caramel, toffee, yeast or a penny, dark fruit, brown sugar, leafy herbs and light booze. Minimal hop presence that you really have to search for as they can’t break through the sweet malt wall. I haven’t had this in a few years, but I recalled it being better than this as it was monotone and almost dull.

Mouthfeel is average to creamy, with a medium body, light carbonation and a sweet, grainy finish that is all malt. Not impressed with this so I’ll try it again later on this year since I like most Tröegs products and will give it the benefit of the doubt. BA score reflects this review.

A truly good light, sweet dopplebock. Sugary, refreshing & light for a dopplebock. Yum!!

I really enjoyed this beer. Many complex flavors. Not sugary, but a bit of "sweetness" to the finish. Medium ABV at 8.2% so a couple of these is all you need. Nice head when poured from a tap. Rich color. Low bitterness at 25IBUs.

Pours a light and hazy orange with a white head that trails the glass. The smell was a bit on the sweet end with a lot of honey but did have a bit of character from the hops and a bit of some bread scents. The taste was really good with sweet flavors such as biscuit coming through. Liked this one a lot. Glad to see this company make it into CT finally.

Pours a medium brown and slightly clear color. Impressive head, however, lace retention not so good. Big fruity and sugary smell followed by grains and roasted malt. Also a bit of alcohol and a medicinal quality. Taste is mostly malty and sweet along with dark fruits and sweet alcohol flavors. Medium to light bodied, not much carbonation.
Not a bad brew but I've had much better doppelbocks. Slightly disappointed since I've had better stuff from Troegs. The boozy and medicinal quality is slightly off putting.

Pours transparent brown in color. Some minor orange hues. Little to no head retention.

The smell is sweet and crisp. I notice something in the aroma that reminds me of a honeycrisp apple... that isn't it, but I can't explain it any better.

Taste is malty, almost dry-like, and satisfying. Well-balanced flavor profile for a beer of this style. The 8.2% seems to be well covered up, as I don't notice the alcohol so much. This is a tasty beer. I like this style a lot, but this is definitely in the better half of dopplebocks that I've tried.

Poured from tap at Pies and Pints in Waterbury, CT

Appearance pours a beautiful deep amber brown in color, tight lacing that clings to the inside of my glass - good carbonation bubbles - Aroma is of some deep raisin and figs - the hops are subtle and mild with a slight grass tone coming through - The taste is as advertised - a huge malt base with hints of rum, honey and slight licorice. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation with a nice malt base that holds up on the tongue well without breaking down - Overall an impressive Doppel with just the right amount of flavor complexity combined with a nice ABV to warm the soul - will seek out again now that Troegs is available in the great state of CT
