A: small less than half finger khaki head. Cleared instantly. Deep amber to red.

S: bread, toast, caramel, hint of vanilla, tobacco and slight sweetness.

T: wow. Caramel sweetness right off the bat to a smooth sweet finish but balanced with hops so its not cloying. Hint of alcohol is in the middle. Toffee notes.

M: sweet all the way. Thicker for sure.

O: I like it. I love bocks. Sometimes when you get high alcohol it detracts. Not here. Easily drinkable. Not by favorite style but I'm branching out. I like it though. Well rounded beer.

Poured unto a tankard.

Appearance: Pours a transparent dark amber, the off white tan head it produced rose to a staggering inch and change. One sip, and it settles to nothing.

Smell: I smell maple syrup...but just leaves me hanging. Just comes and goes.

Taste: Little sweet, caramel and feel of brown sugar or maybe it's the molasses from the brown sugar. Smooth and just a tad complex.

Mouth: So smooth it is borderline perfect. Light to medium carbonation.

Overall: You won't be drinking this beer, I tend ot think you will be inhaling it, so smooth you crave it for dessert. No it not that sweet but it is that appetizing. Salud!

Poured into a nonic imperial pint glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: A reddish brown dark caramel color with brighter highlights here and there from the room lighting. The 1/16” off white head soon recedes to a ring around the glass and a thin, irregularly shaped island of foam. Sipping leaves both patches of lacing and legs of lacing.

Smell: The aroma, while a bit faint, includes a nice mix of caramel, toffee and some dark fruits with maybe a hint of alcohol.

Taste: The favors are much as expected from the nose and include a nice caramel and brown sugar sweetness, tinged hints of dark fruit. While there’s some floral bitterness that is a good counter point here and just enough to break the sweetness.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is on the full side of medium bodied and smooth. Carbonation is faint and lightly prickly. The finish is on the long side of medium and begins with the caramel and sugar sweetness that gradually fades away to a lightly spiced and grassy dryness in the ending.

Drinkability and Overall Impression: I’m enjoying this one and its good enough that I’m drinking it faster than I like, but its also not quite as challenging as some of the other dopplebocks I’ve had. That said it’s a tasty, drinkable beer which I’ve had more than once and will continue to have when the mood strikes.

A- A dark caramel hue with fluffy, thin head at top

S- Sweet malts, caramel, with a slight alcohol sent.

M- Strong alcohol and sweetness to it

T- A surprising cider or apple-like taste.

O- Not at all my style of beer and I have little to compare this to in the same genre but I like it. It's a nice "one and done" beer. I am happy to try this

Clear, red-brown color with a thin, off-white head. Aroma of malt, raisins, and a little citrus. It's pleasant but subdued. Very malty, spicy, and vegetable flavors with a prominent alcohol warmth. Sweet, as expected, but the sweetness isn't overpowering. Also surprisingly bitter. Moderately carbonated, maybe a little too much for the style.

This is as close to sessionable that a doppelbock can get.

Smell is strongly malty, as one would expect. A lot of molasses, sugar, alcohol, and maybe some boozy sherry.

Deeply brown and opaque in the glass with a fairly weak head. Lacing wasn't all that impressive.

Taste was not nearly as thick and cloying as I thought it may be based on some other reviews. It's actually pretty level and nice, in my opinion. Definitely a sugary molasses presence...some dark fruits are in there...a phenolic note as well from the yeast. Slight booze presence as well on the finish but nothing too bad for its 8.2 percent ABV; it's kept in check.

I don't think it's quite a classic but I do think it's quite good. I definitely approve of this, but it packs quite a kick obviously, so I will continue to take it slow.
