APPEARANCE: This one is pretty murky and very subdued looking, but the head is gorgeous. It remains in tact for a few minutes and it is big, foamy, very uniform and regal looking. Some decent lacing also form on the backside of the glass.
SMELL: The aroma here is everything a Barleywine should be. Big brown sugary malt dominates with banana, chocolate, cinnamon and some other spices along with caramel and a decent hint of bread.
TASTE: The brown sugar follows the nose right off the bat along with some chocolate and caramel. Mid-sip an orange flavor takes hold and transitions into a lemon, grapefruit and smoky finish.
MOUTHFEEL: Silky and smooth, but with a mild tickle. Playful. Solid mouthfeel.
OVERALL: This is an excellent example of the style that I wish I had greater access to. Can't wait to crack open my second bottle in a year or two and will pick it up again if I find it.
