Pours brown to ruby red with a big foamy head that settles back nicely to a thin covering of a creamy off-white color. Lacing is erratic and unique. You could tell someones fortune by the patterns this one makes; if you were a lace reader.
The first smell is a very grassy hop aroma with some sweet undertones of raisins and dark fruit. Also, watermelon if that makes any sense.
I first detect a big round malt sweetness. Tastes of watermelon and grapefruit pith on the aftertaste and a clean, light, grassy hop taste in the middle and flowing under and between both is a subtle chocolate flavor. If you're not careful, you could miss it.
The mouthfeel is soft and smooth overall with carpet-bombing of carbonation on the tongue. Still soft all around though. Nice.
Drinkability is only good because the complexity of this taste lends to many small sips and in a 22oz bottle and 9.3%, having a second one is unlikely even if it weren't so rare.
I'm interested to see how this one ages.
