Appearance is somewhat dark/ruby and slightly cloudy. Head is 1 finger thick and retention is great.
Smell is of dark fruits, particularly raisin. Some hop character is there for added complexity a sort of woodsy/citrusy/piney/grapefruity thing, but it isn't very powerful and I can't tell you what it is. I believe chinook is apparent in the flavoring and aroma. Not my favorite hop, but it works okay in barleywines.
Dark raisins and fruits come through with a little bit of citrusy/woody hop flavor and aroma. The hop taste and aroma is there, but it's overshadowed by the complexity of the malts.
Mouthfeel is rich on the palate with a touch of hot alcohol that isn't inappropriate for the style.
Nicely balanced and complex.
