Had fresh, on draft at the Brewery. Poured into a classic tulip glass. Fresh, this is my favorite barleywine to-date. Love the hop-profile on this guy.
A: pours a deep dark mahogany color with a thick frothy off-white head. 4.5
S: raisins, grapefruit, and maybe a touch of malted-barley sweetness on the nose. 4.5
T: so big. So bold. An impressive, aggressive barleywine, where the worlds of dark malts, barleywine sweetness, and aggressive American hopping practices collide. It's starts malty-sweet, almost syrupy, with raisins shining through, before it turns bitter with a wave of dry grapefruit hoppiness. 4.5.
M: not at all "light" in the mouth, carbonation is indicipherable amongst the huge flavors, this beer leaves a tongue coating of hop-oils to be proud of. 4.0
D: a tasty beer, for sure, but so big and so sweet as to not be terribly drinkable. I'd definitely indulge in a second, but probably wouldn't want a third in one sitting. 4.0
Serving type: on-tap
