JavaHead is like a day at Tröegs; it’s hard to tell where the coffee ends and the beer begins. This creamy oatmeal stout is infused with locally roasted, cold steeped coffee through our HopBack vessel, releasing subtle hints of cocoa, roasted nuts and dark mocha.

Troegs Javahead Stout
Poured ontap into a pint glass, dark brown in color with a khaki colored head. Aroma of roasted malt and a bit of coffee. In the flavor, a nice roasted presence with some mild dark roast coffee presence. A kiss of earthy hops is noted in the finish. Medium to full bodied feel. Overall, a nice roasted presence, some coffee and hops mix well. A pretty decent stout.

I liked this stout early on but found recent samples too sweet.
The beer is dark not '-- light for a stout -- with an off-white head. Nose is interesting: roasty, smokey, and sweet. Palate is more straightforward sweet malt, and then there's an IPA-style hop smack in the finish.
It needs revamping. A more complex, bittersweet malt base would be better; the coffee could be more pronounced; and, for goodness' sake, tone down the IPA-style hops.

12 oz. bottle.
Freshest by 041821.
Oh well; close enough!
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over a near black body with sticky lacing. Nose of coffee, espresso, dark malt, malted milk, and a bit of milk chocolate. Taste, however, is almost all espresso and coffee with milk chocolate from the middle to near the finish of bitter coffee and hops. Nice creamy feel from the oatmeal and if you’re looking for an oatmeal/coffee stout, you really can’t go wrong with this one.
Cheers!

Nice pour. Solid head that clings a bit to the sides.
Very faint coffee scent.
Great taste. Nothing specific, just really easy to drink and has excellent flavor. Extremely slight coffe taste at the end. Slight bitterness as well - but good.
Very solid beer - not expensive - would definitely buy again.

Poured from a 12oz bottle.
Not quite a two finger head after pouring into the glass. Head dissipated quickly but left good lacing on the glass.
Color was strong black-brown and opaque.
Aroma had strong roasted coffee notes.
Tastes like roasted coffee with a hint of other roasted ingredients, but was hard to tell exactly what those were.
Mouthfeel was earthy and a slight bit crisp in the beginning with a smoky finish.
Overall, this is a beer you drink if you are a fan of coffee stouts. While it delivers on that level, there is some very subtle hints of other roasted flavor profiles, but they were fairly elusive lending to a somewhat one-dimensional beer. I would recommend this beer for coffee stout lovers and in the end, it was really enjoyable.

Had a cola look, some amber showing through with typical tan colored head. Aroma was bitter malt/coffee, taste did mellow as it warmed with the malt flavor being a bit pronounced on the front end. IBU listed as 60 and unlike other oatmeal stouts of similar IBU's, the bitter finish dominates the overall drinking a bit too much for my taste but overall enjoyable.

I am the stout guy here at 1009 and I love a good Troegs beer so I had to take the shot to try this. The beer pours like a black coffee with a brown foamy head. The black coffee comparisons continue to the scent of the beer, giving off dark chocolate/coffee scents. Although, the black coffee comparisons continued once again into the taste and I am not a huge fan of that. It tasted like burnt coffee beans from an old pot at a gas station Dunkin' Donuts. For some people, they love that taste, but for me it was a bit too overpowering and made it difficult to drink. Some pros, some cons.

April 12th, 2016 - First time with Troegs? I think so. And writing this review from 2020 and after living in CT, I now know I rather like Troegs. But this was a harder beer to find on the West Coast. And it was strong: on both the nose and the tongue, it's an intensely sweet brew that tastes like a rum soaked cake, complete with frosting. A bit strong for me, but all the better that it comes in a 12 oz. dose.
