This brew pours a thick black color. It has maroon streaks throughout the bottom half when held to the light, but is otherwise entirely impenetrable. It holds a medium brown head of two fingers, with big bubbles leaving thick lacing as they go. The carbonation is hard to assess, but doesn't look very active. Additionally, no sediment or haze is noted. The nose is composed of notes of coffee bean, roasty malts, flowery hops, and sweetness, reminiscent of cotton candy and bubblegum. As we sip, the front is predominated by toasted malts, oats, and coffee. They mix well for a smooth beginning. We progress to a middle that is equally as inviting, but here, the coffee enhances in bitterness. While this happens, there is a simultaneous increase in sweetness, as floral hops seep into the flavoring. Once these finally set in we are at the finale of the sip, which is hoppy, but floral and sweet, as if from honeysuckle and sweet grapefruit. The aftertaste breathes with a slight bitterness from charred malts, with a nice balance from those same hops. The body is medium to full, and the carbonation is medium. The feel is silky smooth, and the mouth is neither coated nor dried. The carbonation helps to move the sip along the tongue quickly, leaving little time for reflection. The smoothness mentioned earlier does help to increase the drinkability, while the standard abv really does nothing to hinder it.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was how smooth it drinks. As an oatmeal stout, the beer is expected to have that clean, refined feel as it sips. To this it does not disappoint. To note, the label is also very inventive. For something with a coffee element in the name, the aroma and subsequent taste could have focused a bit more on infusing that characteristic into the profile but, in the end, the drinker is left satisfied with the blend provided.

Having a beer for breakfast?, This is the one. If you like coffee and a kick ass beer, this will suit you just fine. Medium head when poured and dissipates rather fast. Flavor is bold and finishes with just the right amount of somewhat bitter coffee flavor. Taste remains in mouth for quite awhile...but....so does coffee. High alcohol content but well balanced!
