On tap at O'Reilly's Taproom, Harrisburg, PA on 9/15/11.
A - Deep, roasted walnut brown liquid with two fingers of dense mocha-colored foam on top that reduced to a bubbly patch and yielded plenty of thick lacing around the glass.
S - I've had plenty of these before, and the nose just doesn't scream coffee like so many other coffee stouts. That said, the aroma is rich with cocoa and toasted nuts, as well as flaked oats, giving a bit more depth than you average coffee stout. Hop presence is fairly tame, with some earthy notes opening up as the liquid warmed. The nose leads me to the conclusion that this would be a milk stout if I didn't know any better.
T - Initial flavor boasts a bitter chocolate and cocoa character accompanied by a moderate coffee roast. Oatmeal malt and vanilla sweetness add a bit of contrast in the middle through the backend. However, the finish is quite bitter, with leafy greens and earthy notes paired with a small dose of nutty astringency.
M - Medium bodied and straddling the line between creamy and oily, JavaHead is quite smooth up front with a bold bitterness in the backend that lasts well into the finish, leaving a lingering hop bite on the palate.
D - Overall, this is a fine addition to the Troegs line-up, although I still prefer the original Oatmeal Stout. In the grand scheme of things, while it is not one of my top five coffee beers, it is still a great go-to local offering when I need a dark beer fix.

Surprised to see this beer only rated around the 80's overall. It's a great beer for any stout and/or coffee lovers, what really caught me off guard is finding a realization that this beer is in fact a oatmeal stout. This beer is great and taste up to its expectations. Great taste and balance of mostly semi-sweet chocolate and coffee with a nice vibe with it's bold 7.5% ABV. Mixture of sweet and bitterness with a spiky but smooth mouth-feel. I recently got a six pack from my local beverage store and it did not disappoint especially the fact of it's moderate cost. Definitely worth every penny, will be buying again soon!

12oz bottle served in a Prairie Teku
Thanks to Yoshi Optimator for this one.
A - Dark brown body with dense mocha head leaving specks of lacing.
S - Cold coffee, chocolate, raisins, molasses, roasted.charred caramel.
T - Nice cold roasted coffee presence, charred caramel and molasses malts, chocolate covered raisin. A strong core of dark bready malt, creamy and decadent. Finishes with strong malts, raisins, and fading coffee.
M - Full bodied, thick, creamy and viscous body, low carbonation.
Good coffee presence with a stout and creamy body. The raisin/plum plays well and adds a creative layer. Nice creamy texture, this went down very smooth.
