P: 12 fl oz bottle in to a globe glass

A: SRM is dark brown/black. Head is tan, 1 in., puffy, dissipates to 1 cm. Light/medium carbonation. Medium/heavy lacing.

S: A blend of floral hops and coffee.

T: Coffee is initial palate, quickly followed by etheral yet potent influx of hops, then maltiness. Oats come through along with the hop/malt combo on secondary palate. Aftertaste is hoppy and oats/malt are present.

M: Medium body stout. So much going on, but it all works fantastically. Coffee starts the pallet in one direction. Hops and malt make it do a 180. Oatiness gives a thicker mf on aftertaste.

O: Wow. My mouth is so happy. Coffee, hops, oats. Total beergasam. We know the Man upstairs likes beer b/c Troegs made it through the recent floods, and this is one of the reasons why they made it. So many flavors, so perfectly well balanced. Again, I love coffee beers, so this rDev will be skewed towards the uptick. Big ups 2 Troegs!

Appearance - Pours a deep black, fingers worth of khaki head. Looks a little thin, Carbonation just right.

Smell - For being called a coffee stout i am not getting much. This is a very mild aroma. Oatmeal and dark grains shine through.

Taste - The coffee is straightforward but pretty mellow. You get a lot of oatmeal stout qualities in this one that are wrapped around some subtle coffee and chocolate flavors. Not bad

Mouthfeel - A little thin and just slightly over carbonated for my likes

Overall - A moderately good, perfectly acceptable coffee stout. I would expect better from troegs honestly. Not great, not bad.

Chilled bottle into a glass. A generous extra from Goblinmunkey7. Thanks, Joey!

A: Pours a very dark brown: it's opaque in the center, with some edge translucence. A small mocha cap of foam develops and vanishes into a few bubbles on the periphery of the glass.

S: Dark chocolate, coffee, mild notes of pine and earth. Not a standout, but it's serviceable as a coffee stout. I don't know if this is really brewed with oatmeal, but it doesn't exude much of a grainy aroma.

T: This is on the sweeter side, with a syrupy chocolate flavor dominating the coffee. The effect immediately reminds me of Southern Tier's Jah-va, though this isn't quite as treacly. The pine notes of the nose contribute a restrained hoppiness to the flavor, with some crushed vanilla bean hints on the back end.

M: The body is smooth on the front end, suggesting oatmeal really was used here. Creamy carbonation, though it leaves a slightly prickle on the tongue after a swallow. The finish falls off quickly, and it borders on watery there.

O: This isn't bad at all, but it's hard to get excited about this when I've got Velvet Merlin as a local alternative. Plus, Founders Breakfast Stout beats this in every category.
