Standing 12 ft. tall at the center of the brew deck is our HopBack vessel; here, whole flower hops swirl in hot wort coaxing hop oil into aromas of grapefruit pith and pinesap. This bright hop nose is counterbalanced with malt tones of toffee and Caramel.

Hops: Cascade, Willamette, Nugget, Crystal

Look: Clear golden amber or brown. Impressive look in the glass. A big full creamy long-lasting head.

Smell: Hoppy some pine and grapefruit, pleasant bouquet

Taste: Sharp, Clean, refreshing. a less than IPA herbal hop bitterness on the finish as expected. Caramel, malt some coffee. Very slight sweetness.

Feel: I get a medium to almost full-bodied beer, very good carbonation, chewy creamy texture.

Overall: I am primarily an IPA drinker but recently my Daughter and I took a day trip to Troegs brewery since we live about an hour away and I decided to experience as many non-IPA as I could and this was a very good choice. I still get enough hops to keep me happy but there are other tastes and textures that broaden my experience, This is a good refreshing beer.

BTW if you get the chance do the Troegs brewery tour and have lunch there. It was a magnig=ficant experience and I will be going back, and back, back and back...

I like IPAs and this is a step below them, really great malt characteristics with some good hop flavors layered on top. If you are someone skeptical about IPAs but enjoy ales, this would be a step in the right direction.

Pours a clear amber. Bright hop aroma. Clean hop body. Mild and smooth. Slight bitter finish. A little bit of sweetness mixed in. Better than expected.

Pours a lovely deep amber color with a fluffy 1 inch head. Malt and grain in the nose. Taste is well balanced, just the right amount of sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium, overall a very nice beer and pleasant change from IPA's.

Delicious ! A super good balance of malt and hops. I'm a huge Mad Elf fan, ( a must try at Christmas time), but this Hopback Amber maybe the best Troegs beer I have tasted. At 6% it has a good kick, but not too potent to have a few. If you are a Avalanche or Fat Tire fan you will love this beer !

Beautiful glass of beer. The color is a deep amber with glints of polished bronze when backlit showing steady streams of tiny bubbles making their way to the top through the crystal clear liquid. An off-white almost tan head rises 2 inches above the ale, streaks of lace cling to the glass.
Rich aroma full of malt sweetness and cooked grain, hints of apple, anise and a faint pine needle and wildflowers hop presence.
Up front flavor is sweet, as it should be, with lots of grain character; fruit on cereal and honey on rye toast. Then the hop bite kicks in, peppery and green grassy bitterness floats in on a medium bodied malt wave. Great complexity and balance, with the grain bill leading the way and the hop rate taking a back seat until the end when boil hops show their qualities.
The hopback adds some fresh hop aroma but this drinks like a HopBock to me. In reading the label it says Munich malt is used in this so I did taste a marzen/bock/German thing going on.
The finish is warm and mildly bitter, the sugars stripped away with the dry hoppy aftertaste.
Ive enjoyed Nugget Nectar on tap but never had this at a bar. If this bottle is any indication, it would be a beer that would keep me on a bar stool too long. This stuff is made for a cask.

Freshest by 5/13/20...fuck

I really like these guys and wanna try everything they put out, and ambers are always so I have high hopes here

Pours a very dark amber with just a small off white cap that fades fast to a ring, leaves minimal lacing

The nose starts off with classic red malt, a bit of spice in there. Mild caramel and vanilla back up citrus notes

Wow, a lot more hop character than I'm used to for the style, I guess the name suggested that. It starts off with sharp citrus, not really any particular fruit but just general citrus. A touch of peppery spice comes in after the swallow, with sweet and mellow malt. Quite refreshing despite being past peak freshness

A light medium body with moderate carbonation, this is honestly a little watery, it just doesn't finish sharp enough

This wasn't my favorite from them, but I would chalk it up to freshness. I need to try this again, but it was still pretty good
