poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear amberish red color with white heading.Hardly any lacing.

Smell is citrus off the bat ,then a toasted maltiness takes over.

Taste is sweet, with some fruitiness to it.

Mouth is very smooth, medium bodied and good carbonation.

Drink is very high I could definelty have some more of these.

Amber in color, unsurprisingly. Two finger head shows good retention. Streaks of lace cascade down the glass in its wake. Cascade mainly comes through in the aroma, which is citrus and grapefruit forward. Quite hoppy as American ambers tend to be. Malt includes Munich and Crystal, and this comes through with more of a caramel maltiness than in an APA.

Hop-forward flavor profile with a touch of underlying malt sweetness. Very nice balance between citric hop flavors and malt backbone. Fairly smooth mouthfeel with minimal harshness or prickliness. At 6% ABV, there is no trace of alcohol on the palate. While hardly a "session" ale, more than one glass is not out of the question, and it's certainly enjoyable enough to warrant seconds.

This could qualify as an "dark-ish" IPA based on the flavor profile. Not unlike another PA hoppy amber: Victory HopDevil (which is classified as an IPA). Some may liken it to Nugget Nectar's little brother, but it's a far cry from that beer. Still, this is a really good hoppy amber, especially fresh and on tap.

12oz. bottle poured into imperial pint glass.

A: Pours a nice, well... amber hue... We all figured that one, though. The head is dense, off-white, and two fingers in stature, but fades down to about a 1/2" leaving some nice lacing behind. Head retention seems to be very solid.

S: A strong caramel malt presence balanced perfectly by some piney hops and a hint of citrus. A little bit of breadiness and earthiness underneath. The aroma is complex, but not very strong, so you can't be shy with your sniffer here.

T: Lots of bready malts along with some caramel malt sweetness. Hops provide a nice wave of bitterness while adding heap of piney flavor and some citrus notes. The aftertaste is extremely nutty with a lot of lingering bitterness.

M: Full-body with excellent creaminess, but doesn't fall into the "heavy" category. This one could definitely be sessioned, albeit slowly...

O: Troegs delivers another solid beer with HopBack Amber Ale. While it's not outstanding to me, this one is complex and offers a lot to be enjoyed while sitting pretty with a very sessionable 6% ABV. I wouldn't buy this in excess for the sake of its enjoyment, but I'd definitely snag a 6-pack for game day with friends.
