RE-REVIEWWW. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a beautiful copper color. In general, the body has amazing translucence and clarity. The head is a one finger off-white shade. While it's not the creamiest or the softest-looking head, it does leave behind a bit of lacing.

S: There's a really nice fruit ester note coming out of the glass here, somewhat reminding me of apricot. Otherwise, it strikes a good balance between caramel malts and piny hops, without either element dominating the other.

T: The first thing I notice is the malt backbone - definitely caramel-forward, and ever so slightly roasted. Hops exist as a gentle balancing act on the back end. Since this doesn't have Nugget Nectar's hops, I can also notice the some of the ester flavors (read: apricot) beyond the malt/hop interplay more easily. As balanced as this beer is, none of that would really matter if the competing flavors were muddled - luckily, each element is very defined.

M: Surprisingly full-bodied for the style, but the dry finish turns it from being hard work right into being ridiculously easy to drink. The crisp bite and healthy carbonation make it...uh, ridiculously easy to drink.

O: Without a doubt, this is one of the better brews I can get all day, every day, all the damn time at nearly every liquor store (with a half-assed craft beer selection, that is) I frequent. What else could be expected from a 5/6ths scale Nugget Nectar? I really should buy this brew more often...

12oz. bottle dated 2/7/2014

A: Pours a light amber color. ive seen many beers this color and even darker classified as IPA. Really good 2" head that settles to about 1/4 inch and stays. Good lacing. Appearance is the best part of this beer.

S: Mostly caramel malt and some pine. Maybe a hint of citrus. Its not very complex or super inviting, really.

T: Mostly caramel/bread with pine. Kind of has an off bitterness that doesnt seem balanced or the kind of bitterness I like in a hoppy beer (I love bitterness in hoppy beers, btw). Bitterness stays on my tongue after each sip.

M: Light-Medium body. Kind of a harsh carbonation.

O: Meh. Probably wouldnt have again.

Amber in color, unsurprisingly. Two finger head shows good retention. Streaks of lace cascade down the glass in its wake. Cascade mainly comes through in the aroma, which is citrus and grapefruit forward. Quite hoppy as American ambers tend to be. Malt includes Munich and Crystal, and this comes through with more of a caramel maltiness than in an APA.

Hop-forward flavor profile with a touch of underlying malt sweetness. Very nice balance between citric hop flavors and malt backbone. Fairly smooth mouthfeel with minimal harshness or prickliness. At 6% ABV, there is no trace of alcohol on the palate. While hardly a "session" ale, more than one glass is not out of the question, and it's certainly enjoyable enough to warrant seconds.

This could qualify as an "dark-ish" IPA based on the flavor profile. Not unlike another PA hoppy amber: Victory HopDevil (which is classified as an IPA). Some may liken it to Nugget Nectar's little brother, but it's a far cry from that beer. Still, this is a really good hoppy amber, especially fresh and on tap.
