This is from a 12 oz bottle brought back from Pennsylvania by a good friend of mine, Thanks Ken!
Served into goblet.
Appearance: Pours a pleasant medium amber color with a quickly fading eggshell head. No lacing from the thin ring and patchy head.
Smell: I smell a nice marriage of malt backbone with hops mingled in nicely. As it warms, I am getting more caramel malt and less hops. The hops have a mild floral character.
Taste: Similar to the smell. Caramel at first, with the mellow hops bitterness kicking in halfway. Once the hops are gone, the malty caramel comes back for a second visit. There is some mild sweetness to this beer, but not so much to become unpleasant.
Mouthfeel: This beer has a pleasant texture. The carbonation is spot on, balancing out the caramel sweetness and hops.
Drinkability: I would not turn down another offered to me. This is the style of amber (or more appropriately, red ale) that I like. It is not all caramel malt, hops are a nice balance. Unfortunately, I only have one more until Ken goes to Pennsylvania again next summer.
