I tried this fine beer on tap in my favorite Washington DC brewpub.
Appearance was excellent -- Golden color with a creamy head.
Smell was less impressive -- some notes of hops, but surprisingly little aroma. Perhaps my allergies had suddenly kicked in, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt.
Taste was quite good. A nice balance of malt and hops.
Mouthfeel was good but not great. A little too much maltiness sticking to the roof of my mouth, if you know what I mean.
Drinkability was just fine. It's a very potent beverage, so it's certainly not a bad thing it doesn't rate higher in this category.

12oz. bottle dated 2/7/2014
A: Pours a light amber color. ive seen many beers this color and even darker classified as IPA. Really good 2" head that settles to about 1/4 inch and stays. Good lacing. Appearance is the best part of this beer.
S: Mostly caramel malt and some pine. Maybe a hint of citrus. Its not very complex or super inviting, really.
T: Mostly caramel/bread with pine. Kind of has an off bitterness that doesnt seem balanced or the kind of bitterness I like in a hoppy beer (I love bitterness in hoppy beers, btw). Bitterness stays on my tongue after each sip.
M: Light-Medium body. Kind of a harsh carbonation.
O: Meh. Probably wouldnt have again.

Amber in color, unsurprisingly. Two finger head shows good retention. Streaks of lace cascade down the glass in its wake. Cascade mainly comes through in the aroma, which is citrus and grapefruit forward. Quite hoppy as American ambers tend to be. Malt includes Munich and Crystal, and this comes through with more of a caramel maltiness than in an APA.
Hop-forward flavor profile with a touch of underlying malt sweetness. Very nice balance between citric hop flavors and malt backbone. Fairly smooth mouthfeel with minimal harshness or prickliness. At 6% ABV, there is no trace of alcohol on the palate. While hardly a "session" ale, more than one glass is not out of the question, and it's certainly enjoyable enough to warrant seconds.
This could qualify as an "dark-ish" IPA based on the flavor profile. Not unlike another PA hoppy amber: Victory HopDevil (which is classified as an IPA). Some may liken it to Nugget Nectar's little brother, but it's a far cry from that beer. Still, this is a really good hoppy amber, especially fresh and on tap.
