Poured from bottle into pint glass. Nice color. A golden amber appearance. Good hoppy and fruity smell. Smells delicious. Also can taste the fruit right off the bat. Not as hoppy as I thought it would be. Has a little bitterness to it. Doesn't last that long. In my opinion, its a great IPA.

Pours golden and crystal clear..personally I like it a little murky. Aroma is mild citrus and a teeny bit dank. Taste reinforces the smell. I find this beer underwhelming. The bottle is just under a month old too. Probably a good intro ipa. I will not be picking this one up again. Now nugget nectar on the other hand....

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass at around 45°F

Appearance: I would have guessed this was a lager from the look of it. A bright golden color with a huge three finger off white head which resulted from an aggressive pour.

Smell: Mild yet balanced between citrus and pine notes

Taste: Crisp floral, citrusy, and pine hops along with a touch of bready malt. Grapefruit is prominent

Mouthfeel: Quite light for a DIPA with moderate dry bitterness

Overall: Not quite there as far as DIPA's go in my opinion. If this were labeled as a IPA, I may have given this a higher score. However, it's still tasty and I'll be grabbing for more from time to time.

Continue to be blown away from Troeg's, how did it take me so long to discover this east coast gem!? Perpetual may be almost on far with the Nugget. Drank three last night was was throughly impressed I can't get enough of those high ABV's with maximum drinkability. Hope my old faithful keeps a constant supply of this stuff coming!

Tröegs Perpetual IPA
12 oz brown bottle
Bottled 010314 on the side of the bottle in jet ink
Served in a 20 oz tulip glass

Pours a light amber with a yellow tint. A decent head forms on top, leaving a circular white streak across the glassware. Residuals of the head leave sticky lacings behind.

Predictable whiffs from a big time hoppy IPA. I detect citrus fruits and maybe some pineapple.

Toasted grain or biscuit backbone with a nice surge of hops on the finish. Flavors of orange & lime as well as a tropical fruit presence. Guava and kiwi sweetness flavors are mixed in there too. I get a mini taste of dry chalk as I take additional sips. Interesting.

What a pleasant IPA from Tröegs, I really like the dry hop effect on this beer. Super drinkable with a well hidden 7.5% ABV. I would gladly have another.

A- Golden orange in color and crystal clear. White head that leaves a decent lacing on the glass.

S- Citrus, pine, sweet malts.

T- Follows nose with a nice piney dry finish.

M- This stuff is dangerous. Light to medium body that is so smooth. I could drink 2 or 3 of these no problem.

O- This is just a rock solid IPA/DIPA. Hits all the right notes. I'll buy again.

Clear light straw colored with a white frothy head that settles out to a low cap. Inviting aroma of floral and fruity hops, a touch of mint.

Zesty citrus flavors upfront, good blend of tangerine, grapefruit and orange rind. Piney notes linger. Moderate bitterness. Honey malt undercurrent balances nicely. Mouthfeel is a bit slick, but finishes tingly. Really good beer.

The beer comes in a light crystal clear golden amber.

The aroma is brilliantly fresh of bright tropical fruits. Tangerine, citrus peel, sweet pineapple, mango, and then some herbal and medium plus resinous dank notes. A very hoppy clean aroma, even with that dankness in there.

The flavor follows of a wonderful burst of tropical fruits. Mangoes, pineapple, passionfruit. There’s a medium plus caramel sweetness and a bready malt backbone. It then transitions to bitter orange and grapefruit peel. The finish has a medium plus bitterness as the green herbal and spicy hops come.

This is an absolutely complex DIPA (at a smaller 7.5% ABV). Wonderful fruity notes, resinous pine, sweetness, bitterness.

(Had this next to Two Hearted, enjoyed this more for its aggressive and complex hopping.)

This ale pours a hazy orange color with very little head but decent lacing. The aroma is rather muted. The aroma is malty with minimal hop notes and a distinctive alcohol bite. I get the feeling as though this dipa is probably past its prime. The mouth is smooth and easy to sip. A little thick but in a good sticky way. The taste is better than I expected given the aroma. It is malty but with a nice hoppy bitterness. There is a definite bite of alcohol on the tail but it is pleasant. You can tell that this ale has seen better days but it is still a solid offering. Would love to try one of these fresher if troegs ever comes to Michigan.

Lovely little slut of a beer. It reminds me of grapefruit juice at my grandmother's house as a child.
Light amber color with a sticky sweet urinal cake type foam.
Strong citrus smell.
Strong bitter hops bite with a sweet grapefruit/citrus rind taste. Easily drinkable despite it's strong tastes.
Don't leave a dirty glass around unless you love fruit flies.
(And you'll probably think those are some sexy ass flies at 7 .5% alcohol and feel like they raped you in the morning if you kill a sixer)

A-pours a crystal clear dirty straw color. Two beautiful fingers of pure white, bubbly head. Great lacing all the way down.

S-super citrusy on the nose. So good. This smells almost like a pina colada. A lot of pineapple(obviously), some pine in there. Great on the nose.

T-Great taste. Huge citrus with pinpple and grapefruit at the beginning. Levels out with a great sweet malty body and ends with a subtle but notice hop bite. It has three very distinct levels as it rolls across palate.

M-light body. Very drinkable. Makes you want more and more. Low carbonation that is spot on.

O-very much a fan of thus IPA. Been a while since I've had a new, kickass IPA. This is outside the box, not a hop bomb. Love this.

Bottle in trade. This one has about 2 months of age. Pours a beautiful clear golden color with a creamy white nearly one finger head. Bright hop aromas with citrus, lemon, grapefruit, definite sweet caramel malt backbone to the smell and the aroma has held up well for the 2 month age. Flavor is sweet malts, straw, grapefruit, honey, grass. Mouthfeel is very slick, medium, with medium carbonation. As with other Troegs beers I have had, this has a slightly syrupy feel to it. Overall a very nice IPA that I would drink again.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation and a smooth finish.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clean yellow to orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, grapefruit and orange citrus hops. In the taste, dry citrus rinds, and somewhat pine like. A small hop bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry trace of hops in the aftertaste. Big nose and mellow taste, lack of aftertaste, good but mellow

I like this as an above average IPA by comparison but as an "Imperial" IPA, which it bills itself", I feel it's no higher than barely average.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

12 oz. bottle poured into a Belgian tulip. Bottled on 12/18/13

Pours a slightly cloudy medium gold with an orange tint. One finger of puffy white head turns into a thin persistent cap with minimal lacing.

Almost all tropical fruit in the nose--mango, pineapple and papaya mainly. A little bit of grapefruit and grassy pine sneaking out of the background. A real treat for the sniffer.

When cold, the carbonation hits the tongue with a punch, but as it warms it really smoothes out and goes down extremely easy. On the light side of medium-bodied with a crisp dry finish. My only "complaint" is that I wish the flavors mimicked the nose a bit more. Don't get me wrong, it's good. Very good. But the stellar aroma ends up being a bit of a tease. I find the pine and grapefruit bitterness very refreshing. There is some complexity to the hop profile and it's very well balanced with the faint sweet malts.

This is a go-to IPA (toeing the line of DIPA) for me. Not necessarily the best I've had but always rock solid, like most of Troeg's offerings. And unlike some beers, I think I like it more every time I have it.

A: medium gold and crystal clear, two fingers of fine-foamed head; sparse lace trails behind

S: bitter hops strike resemblances to citrus groves and pith; aromas of wet flowery fields accompany

T: bitter grapefruit pith and pineapple sugars alternate across the palate; clean malt bill provides complementary structure for the hop action, which suggests various citric and resinous influences

M: medium body, slick and smooth, nicely bittering and slightly chewy and sticky

O: a fine DIPA - treads the line between IPA and DIPA - but a nicely balanced hop and malt act, very drinkable and definitely recommended

Appearance: medium-gold to caramel in color, good head retention
Aroma: Hops jump out immediately, having quite the citrus-like quality. Not much in the way of malts- perhaps a touch of biscuit/bread.
Taste: An even balance between a bready malt and citrus hop presence initiates this tasting. However, the hops wash over in short order leaving behind a pleasing and sharp hop bitterness. Alcohol well-hidden but noted as warmth at the finish. Aftertaste is dry and bitter.
Mouthfeel: A bit thick but appropriate for the style, a little hoppy oil slickness is of note.
Overall: A pleasing DIPA for those seeking a pleasant alpha acid fix.

S - Lots of tropical fruit - mostly mango, orange, and pineapple.

T - Nice amount of pine, citrus, and lots of malt. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish.

M - Thin body with medium carbonation. Smooth slightly watery mouthfeel.

O - Nicely balanced and tasty. Not the best DIPA I've ever had, but I would definetly drink again.

Poured from a 12 FL. OZ. bottle into a pint glass. Bottled on 082213.

Appearance: Pours a pale golden straw body with a thin white head.

Smell: Smell of dry hopped Citra immediately upon the pour. Slightly sweet caramel malt aroma.

Taste: Less hoppy and more malty than I would have expected. Still flavorful. Slight pine and fruity notes.

Mouthfeel: Very light bodied for a decent ABV IPA. Crisp and refreshing.

Overall: A very nice IPA. Definitely paler than most, which is refreshing. Not as hoppy flavor-wise as I would have hoped, although that may be due to the four months since bottling date.

The beer pours a golden color. Has a slight orange hue to it. Great white soapy head in the pour. Smell is absolutely wonderful. Super citrus oriented, also a lot of pine in the smell, very dry smell. The taste is very dry as well. TONS of great citrus hop flavor. Slight malt finish to balance out the taste but very slight.

This beer never disappoints. I live about 30 minuets from the Tröegs brewery and there are not many things better than a fresh Perpetual from the tab at the brew house. I would recomend this beer to any hop head. One of my favorite IPAs. Super hoppy and dry. Lots of citrus notes. Perpetual IPA never disappoints.

Smell: Pine, mango, biscuit, citrus.
Taste: Slightly bitter pine and citrus. Quite dry aftertaste.

This is a really good, unusual dIPA. It's more like an IPA, maybe. Honestly, it seems almost like a Pale Ale. The smell has a biscuity sense to it which was different, but quite enjoyable. It has a carbonated and dry mouthfeel, and the taste is mainly of pine and citrus. I would probably get this again. Very enjoyable and drinkable.

This is always my go to beer. Imo this is what an IPA should be. I love hoppy beers and this is one of them. Troegs isnt far away so very easy to find this stuff one or two weeks old. smells hoppy, tastes hoppy, and very easy drinking. At 35$ a case its also very affordable. If you love that teeth eating hop flavor, this is a must try.

A- a beautiful nice clear head. Foamy white head has nice retention and leaves good lacing. A steady stream of carbonation

S-nice citrus and floral hops.

T- nice subtle hops flavors throughout. There is little by way of any malt, so it tastes a little out of balance. Not badly so, just slightly. I was expecting more bombast for an Imperial IPA.

M- a little thin, especially for the style.

O- this is a good IPA, but it's not really what I was expecting for a IIPA/DIPA. Not bad at all, but not as big as I was expecting.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Spiegelau glass. Date on bottle hard to read... could only make out 2013.

A - Golden with a slight orange tinge. Gentle pour yielded a half-finger of an egg-shell white large-bubble foam. Quickly dissipated. Moderate carbonation. Clear with no sediment.

S - Very fragrant. Mango, pineapple, and kiwi.

T - Pleasant and very distinct flavor. Melon, kiwi, and lime with an intense pink grapefruit rind finish that lasts on the back of the tongue. Completely hides ABV. No noticeable malt backbone. Slight sweetness which complements bitterness.

M - Very easy to drink, almost too easy. Lasting tingle on center-back of tongue. Light-bodied with well balanced carbonation.

O - Very happy with this beer and would gladly drink again. Goes down incredibly easy and provides a wonderful grapefruit flavor. Only knock on this beer is light-bodied texture, more reminiscent of a single IPA. However, this a really good beer and I will definitely have again.

Yellowish golden and hazy with a small white head. Great lacing. An inviting piney, grassy and citrusy aroma. Flavor follows closely with an emphasis on hop flavor. Mild bitterness, minimal malts. Smooth and creamy consistency.

A tasty, flavorful IPA.
