pours a clear copper color, small head that seems to retain pretty well. smell is of pine, resin, and sweet malts. taste is a bitter hop bomb, LOTS of pine and resin, a little bit of very bitter citrus (lemon or lime concentrate), and a less sweet malt backbone than the smell suggested. no booze bite at all, in fact i dont know how they could consider this an Imperial or Double when the ABV is only 7.5% and the taste isnt very balanced, definitely more of a standard IPA. mouth fell was actually very good and made up for where the taste lacked. decent beer, but probably wont ever buy again.

Bottles from Wegmans. Bottled 8-25-15

Pours clear yellow gold. Fluffy white head sticks around quite a while, leaving nice lacing.

Aroma is earthy, spicy, piney hops. Smooth, rich malts. Really nice. A bit of a tingle at the back.

Taste is nice. Piney, earthy hops in balance. Bitterness is delayed, and comes on after the sip. Noticeable malt body, but not sweet. Very slight alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel is smooth. Carbonation scrubs pretty well, medium-is body, and great dry finish with a negligible alcohol warthm.

Overall, a great ipa. Comes across as a nice mix between the more malty east US ipas, and the piney northwest style from home.

Look: Bubbles cling to the sides as if they're afraid of being swallowed up by the big, cushy, eggnog-colored head. The body of dark gold is somewhat cloudy--just clear enough to show off that carbonation.

Smell: Honey and citrus are well-balanced by earthy hops which boast a pinch of parsley and a sprig of rosemary. A fresh yeasty scent mixes with newly cut straw, while a good amount of toasted grain gives the beer a darker-than-normal, more muted scent than other IPAs.

Taste: The initial medium bitterness is heightened by earthy and resinous hops. Black tea and a breath of mint put some pep in the flavor profile's step, culminating in a grassy finish which hangs on to the back of the tongue. Additional complexity and a comforting character is found in a buttery cracker malt backbone.

Mouthfeel:, Medium bodied. A touch of creaminess is countered by a crispness which comes from medium high carbonation. A light glow of alcohol warming can be felt at the back of throat.

Overall: This IPA takes the earthy, rather than fruity hop route, creating a richer and calmer variation which at times seems too subdued. And yet, the fresh herbal quality breathes some nice life into the bones of this beer. A good choice for some, just not quite my type (a bit too brooding).

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a IPA glass.

The color is a bright gold with two fingers of foamy white head and some nice thick lacing left on the glass.

The smell is hoppy at first with a piney aroma that is an earthy with a hint of cut grass. There some slight aroma of grapefruit and tangerine that makes the aroma bit juicy and less dry.

The taste is fruity at first with some touches of tangerine and lemon then a dry bitterness comes in and brings in a slight resin flavor that lays on the tongue and stays there for a time. There are some hints of sweetness that is here briefly but then get taken over again by the bitterness each time it pokes through the hop flavor to even things out.

This beer has a medium body and a good drinkable feel that goes down easy and leaves something after it’s gone. The aftertaste is pretty impressive and a little strong at times but still enjoyable as it lets some of the hop flavor linger a bit before slipping away.

Very slow pour to keep the head from stealing all the carbonation from this one. Copper brew with a finger of head on top, nice lacing. Big nose to it, big fruity hops, maybe some pineapple, grapefruit. Almost a spice to it. Flavor is likewise - big dirty hops up front. The tiniest hint of candy malt in there. A surprisingly West Coast feel to this IPA. Really tasty - Tröegs does yet another style expertly.

Nice head and nice lacing. Smells like your run-of-the-mill IPA. Hoppy but not bitter. Flavor is almost "light" IPA with 1/2 lager, 1/2 IPA. Pine flavor and scent. Slightly better than average.

Poured from bottle to tulip. Liquid gold and crystal clear. Aggressive pour yields three fingers of fizzy head that quickly dissolves into a small, solid cap of foam. Rings of spotty lacing line the sides. Aroma is juicy, honey sweet, and just a touch of booze. Flavor is same with a bit of resin and pine bite. Kinda sorta a DIPA, but if my beloved Two Hearted is an IPA, this is an IPA.

Look - Golden with minimal white head

Smell -nice aroma...citrus and hops

Taste - follows the smell...a little alcohol burn in the aftertaste

Feel - light and not as much chew as most DIPA, but smooth...almost an in betweener

Overall - as a south central PA boy, Troeg Perpetual and Nugget Nectar are 2 of my favorites for the price

A murky golden amber with a strong piney scent. Taste is on the piney/resiny side with slight citrus hint. For a DIPA, the mouthfeel is a bit thin but this simply makes it pleasant and drinkable. Seems like more of an IPA than a double but this is a very solid beer.

Golden color, minimal head, lace disappears. Sharp citrus and tropical fruit, from the hops,and sweet malt aroma. Big citric hops taste. Piney feel and resin finish. The malts are also very present as they provide a sweet contrast. Feel wise, I feel like I can't rate this one as high. The balance between bitter and sweet was uneven; cloying at times and bitter at others. the body felt thin for a double ipa and the carbonation was too soft.

L: brilliant gold, 1” white head, thick, fluffy and lacy. S: American hops, malt, spice, light fruit, a little pine and citrus. T: Starts with malt, peach and plum, then citrusy hops, and finishes with citrus rind bitterness – has long lingering citrus. F: Medium body and carbonation. O: A big hoppy beer with a good range of hop flavors.

12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Nose is pine,hop, some tropical fruit. Taste is pine resin, hops, bitter grapefruit, earthy dankness. I've had this in a can and thought the canned version was a bit better. Run of the mill IPA. Wouldn't pass one up if at a gathering, but wouldn't seek it out.

Got in a trade recently. First beer I had drank from Troegs. This was a solid IPA. Nothing special about any apsect of it, but it was well rounded. Would drink again, but wouldn't seek out.

L: Golden color, off-white two-finger head.

S: Soapy floral scents, with crackery malt.

T: Floral and sweet up front, like honey. Finishes bitter and dry, like citrus rind.

F: Light bodied with medium carbonation, which I like. Finishes clean and quick.

O: A nice IPA. Not sure I would call it a double.

Ratings are correct below, but I changed some marks above to make the final rating as close as possible with Beer Advocate's "revamped" system. The 3.87 overall rating is accurate.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Eddy’s Beverage Inc. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Price: $1.99
Purchased: July 14, 2015
Consumed: July 24, 2015
Misc.: Canned on March 16, 2015 (I think)

Poured a honey, pale, hazy color with 5-to-6 fingers of off-white, frothy head. Lots of uneven bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Above average foamy, layered, spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.13)

Smelled wet Cascade, pine, soap, caramel, floral, herbal and slight menthol. If what I read was correct (March 16 canned on date), then that is why the smell is just OK. (Smell - 3.63)

Tasted pretty close to the nose, maybe a tad more malty. Floral, pine, wet Cascade, herbal, light menthol, tropical notes and faint passion fruit. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.63)

This was a pretty good IIPA and I’m sure it would have been better fresher. Would like to give it another try. (Overall - 3.88)

Had this once, then bought a case. This is a really solid IPA. The grapefruit rind in the nose and crisp hops in the taste work together nicely to make this beer more drinkable than the average DIPA. The malt character is subdued by the harsher hop and lemongrass flavors.

A mildly dank, lemony deal, with a crisp refreshing and bitter feel. A bit of sweet corn-like bread malts. Ends on the dry side. Well-crafted to my liking. Another new try whole visiting family in NJ. Pennsylvania delivers some polished brews, and not just from names like victory. While I didn't get (or expect to) get Troeg's renowned Nugget Nectar, this is a fine example IPA from the same people.

Had this on tap in Philadelphia in April 2015. Blown away by the smell - almost a floral/piney extravaganza! Seriously. Very drinkable, wish I could get it in Colorado. A very nice IPA.
A = 3.5 (there are prettier beers)
S = 5 - really something to behold, was so floral I at first wondered if there was a soap residue left in the glass - there wasn't as that ruins the head, and the head was decent and second draft smelled the same.
T = 4
M = 4
O = 4.5

Will seek it out next time in PA of environs.

Had this in a six pack of bottles and then later on draft. A solid beer from Tröegs that has a great hoppy profile and a light body. Overall it's easy to drink but it's not a heavy hitting DIPA. Drinks and feels more like a single IPA. Overall good but not great.

Had on-tap at Shadrach's at The Heritage in Southbury, CT.

Appearance - Served up in a pint glass, this brew is crystal clear and golden yellow in color with a broke, razor thin white head. Spotty lacing with good stick.

Smell - Aroma hits on orange with lesser grapefruit and pineapple notes.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange rind bitterness at the forefront. Hints of pineapple, then a grapefruit pith bitterness in the finish. A touch of tangerine sweetness. Not much for a malt backbone; this thing is a pure hop bomb.

Mouthfeel - On the lighter side of medium with a tingly carbonation. A little rough considering the bitterness, then a dry finish.

Overall - Decent IPA that suffers from a lack of balance. My lupulin threshold is pretty high these days, and it's been a long while since I've IBU's attack my palate like this. While I appreciate the challenge, it's a testament to the lack of balance this beer displays.
