This beer pours a clear gold to amber colour with a nice one finger head that lasts and leaves a cool cracked desert pattern on my tulip glass. I poured it cold, but I sort of had to after a long hot day working. It will warm and offer niceties.

Aromas are of grapefruit and other citrus with a definite hint of pine. It's awesome! There is a foundation of pale malt sweetness and a bit of honey, but the nose is mostly grapefruit and pine.

The beer starts off equally mild malty and hoppy and as the sip progresses more bittering comes out in the form of grapefruit and lemon peel with a mildly dry yet fairly bitter ending.

The mouthfeel is medium full yet drying and bitter with an alcohol tingle. The carbonation is moderate but enough to really bring that citrus to your nose and palate with a little bit of a burn.

Overall I would say that this is exceptional as it has all of what this style needs and more in the way of hops. It's a little more bitter than the favourites of mine, but still exceptional and would drink this again and recommend it to other IPA fans! 4 out of 5!

Poured into snifter. Clear golden yellow/orange with a thin white head even from a vigorous pour. Sits as a tight disc of foam for a while. Lots of delicate lacing as it's drunk. Smells of strong piney hops with some citrus fruits in the background. Taste is crisp, with tons of resinous and bitter hops up front with some fruit notes in the background. Fruit smells increase as it warms. Sweet malts try and make a play, but the hops beat them into submission. Mouthfeel is medium and pretty smooth for a DIPA, nicely done.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle into a tulip glass

A: Straw in color pours to a white cloudy head dissipating fast to a white collar leaving some nice lacing. Very clear.

S: The nose is mild (relative to other big IPAs) but still there. Citrus fruit (oranges, tangerine, lemon) and a bit of pine.

T: The beer is hop forward and hits you first with a nice piney bitterness with fruit in the background. The hops are somewhat balanced out by a sweet malt character, but the hops override. The finish is long and bitter.

M: Round, smooth.

O: Perpetual is a nice looking beer and with a slight but tasty nose. A very good beer, but for me, the hop bitterness is a bit out of balance.
